@vordman I saw it and have it on dvd. There were rumours flying around about Hughie Green through my teens and I did not believe them because I was a fan . Even though he had turned into a loon.
I must have been missing out on something about Hughie Green. He looked so friendly and decent on his shows, if what you guys are saying about him are true, then I'm really shocked. I heard about Paula Yates being his illegitimate daughter but the poor girl had all the bad luck in the world, though Mr Geldoff tried his best.
@macvatu There was a dramatisation made of his life a couple of years ago. If true, and many people who knew him vouch that it was, then yes, he was a truly vile man. Trevor Eve takes the lead role and plays it in a no holds barred fashion. When seen, you'll never look on Green in the same way again.

That was the music promoter from New Faces, who went to Pentonville prison for drink-driving the man who he knocked over lost his leg. It wasn't Hughie Green.
Reid is now an Independent Financial Adviser living in Blackpool, Lancashire; and was interviewed by Amanda Holden about his child stardom for ITV1's When Britain First Had Talent in January 2008.
@scroggihn - they did, it was revived by the BBC from 1987 to 1990, hosted by Bob Monkhouse from 1987 to 1989 (under the title "Bob Says Opportunity Knocks!") and subsequently by Les Dawson in 1990.
@CanadianCockney mike reid (comedian/eastenders) claimed that when he appeared on op knocks green said if you give me ££££££££s you will win -little frog in the throat there !
@CanadianCockney Hughie Green was a monster in real life, behind his sickeningly slimey 'friends' image. He was horrible to all who worked for him and tried often successfully to ruin the careers of rivals and others who he felt were in his way through smears, rumours and blackmail. He got lots of young women pregnant with false promises of 'I can make you a star' and took many bribes from people to rig his shows. Vile bastard he was
@MrJayWynn Yes, and that news was what finished her off ; no doubt about it. When I was a little kid we were at some seaside resort, Weymouth I think, and Green was doing some show that my family had gone to see on the pier theatre and Green had to take the opportunity to try and get the audience to sign some petition to bring back hanging ! ; I mean what the fuck ?? : "hey friends lets make sure all these child killers swing on the end of a rope" etc. There had to be something in it for him !
@TheKenfig great to hear you like `cared` in case you did`nt know the show was based on the books by the late peter tiniswood -a must to read. a lot of people say `cared ` is a darker `summer wine` but i think `cared is far better, almost up with my fav ever sitcom `the royle family`.mmm aye well.
@cunningsophie Really ?.Paula Yates didn't know he was her real father until shortly before she died ; she was devastated and it has been said it was the final straw for her. In the 60s he would harass audiences during his summer season seaside stage shows with right wing petitions to bring back hanging in the UK ; my parents didn't sign.I'm sure there was some money in it for him ; a backhander from some MP or something - 'we really wanna see those scumbags swing on the end of a rope friends !'
@Enerjee Green spent some of his youth in Canada but was born and died in London England. Not surprised Green returned home - he would never have found so many opportunities to be a bad-boy in boring Canada.

Hughie Green! The original Simon Cowell; seeing that the X factor/pop stars.got talent shows are just plagarisms of Hughie's show and concept.
