It is not extremely smooth. It seems that they flared and stopped at around 10 ft above ground, and then after few seconds dropped more violently again due to velocity loss. In my opinion it is around medium touchdown - probbably 200 ft/min or so.
Actually that was a pretty smooth landing. Listen to the radar altitude callouts. They sya how high he is in feet, listen how fast they go "40, 30, 20...10.." then it takes a few seconds to descend the last 10 feet. I see why you would think it was hard though. Sounded rough plus camera jostled a good bit.
don't be mate - i started taking flying lessons here in new zealand a few months back and was surprised at how cheap it is...i'm paying about NZ$220 (roughly AU$180 i guess) per lesson and it's all pay-as-you-go. also, you're the one that takes off from lesson ONE! just give it a try, it doesn't require thousands and thousands of dollars in the bank to start learning to fly!! :-)
(if you have any further questions just drop me a note, i'm happy to help)

I'm getting the impression that my comment was not taken quite the way I meant it. It was a question and not criticsm. I am an airliner freak, (but certainly no authority on them) and naturally, I watch many videos of them, but I'd never heard such a loud bang on touch down before. Even when the people who shoot a video say it was a rough landing I don't hear that sound, so it is more curiosity as to what the bang was. My apologies to those who were offended, it was not my intention to offend.
Anyway nice landing doesnt necessarily just mean a perfectly smooth touchdown. That landing was perfectly centered and the glide slope was also very good.
It's called a touchdown, what you were expecting a cushion of air to glide the plane down..ignorant mis-informed viewers!!You just love to nag don't you?? Do you by chance live alone with only a bunch of cats running around the house???
How can anyone say "nice landing," am I the only one who heard that loud *bang* on touchdown? Can you explain the noise to me, Jetpilot, or didn't you shoot this video?
Have you ever flown? Can you imagine anywhere from 20,000 to 60,000 lbs of metal, fuel avionics, 150 passengers of which 56 are overweight, touching down so gracefully on concrete? If you notice, the red and white lights to left show he is on perfect glideslope, the 100, 50, 40... are in perfect time, that was a textbook approach and landing!
that sound at 1:12 sounds like something metallic rather than a hard landing. Perhaps the camera holder accidently pushed something over, or something fell from an edge as the touchdown occured. I have a similar video of a touchdown where the First Officer had left something on the pedistal which fell off at touchdown and made him start scrambling around between the seat and pedistal even as the decell took place. Similar sound of something falling on the floor rather than touchdown.
It's a 737 I can tell you that for sure. BTW to reply to someone else. There is no reverse thrust because it's night. At night you may not use reverse thrust
Sorry for my bad typing skills last night, just had switch to a new youtube account and it was late and I was tried and sick. Tha can not be an excause in the cockpit some day.
glenn lopez, this is not A320, you can tell by many ways like the FMC and radio controls on the left and right side of the Autopilot control also in the call outs. Airbus is more Euro sounding and doesn't say 1o, insted it says RETARD over and over till eithe feet is reached or one of the pilots put throttles to idel. There are a few other ways to tell but some people get the 737NG and Airbus A318-A340 panels confussed a first glance but it rally is and easy tell apart.
That's someone filming from the jumpseat, a seat in the middle of the two pilots, but the First Officer/Co Pilot will make the landings also. I don't think the pilot was filming that.
so happy it's somebody else doing that and not me. If it was, that computer would be saying "50, 40, 30, 20,10, oh shit, you just crashed . . . and killed everyone"
ouch lmao

A good landing is one you can walk away from,
A great landing is when you can use the plane again.
Knowing that this was a good landing :P

Interesting landing. I don't know why everyone is saying bad things about his touchdown. I'm more interested in the night approach! Very good!

@DelfinoDelphis I doubt that was 200 ft/min, that's too smooth. 3 ft per second. This was more like 300 ft/min.

Terrible landing, he barely even flared the front of the aircraft hence the very heavy impact on the front carriageway.
