these words just connect to my soul and the first time I heard this song I felt the presence of The Holy Spirit. What a beautiful song sung by a truly sweet Christian man.
This song was written by a friend of mine, Buddy Buie from Dothan, Alabama. Buddy is best remembered for forming and writing most of the songs for the "Atlanta Rhythm Section"
Many thanks for the info. I've just found out that Buddy Buie also wrote many of my favorites: "Traces", "Spooky", "Stormy" - made famous by Classics IV. Wow, outstanding accomplishment!
Buddy Buie is your friend? He has written some truly great songs. This one is my favorite. I've probably sang and played it hundreds of times. Let him know that Marc O'Hara appreciates his work. Thanks.
I first heard this song in the summer of '71 when I was going to summer school my first year of college. The love of my life,Jeri, was going there too and I was on top of the world.I didn't realise it was a religious song. I didn't really listen to the lyrics, but I knew that it was very uplifting. I was in love and it made me feel really good. Jeri is not with me,but I have B.J. Thomas to listen to and is he good or what? What a great singer and remarkable talent! May he be with us a long time
I'm not religious at all, but this is such a terrific and uplifting song. One of my favorites from this hugely talented, soulful, underrated vocalist.
BJ Thomas is incredible, period end of statement. I'd like to hear any of today's artists even try to sing his songs. Burt Bacharach and Hal Davud didn't select him to sing their songs because he had no talent! Damn is he good. For quite a while they would 'churn' out the songs and the female vocals went to Dionne Warwick, and the male vocals went to BJ Thomas. A nice formula for success, don't you think?
@bjclark1017 Totally agree with you! Actually it was Dionne Warwick who finally put her foot down with Bacharach, demanding that he give "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" to BJ Thomas after Ray Stevens turned the song down. Dionne and BJ then recorded a duet of "Make it Easy On Yourself" that Scepter Records never released.
This song heralded BJ's recovery from drugs and return to his beloved wife and child who waite for him.....It was the 70s and he didnt mind proclaiming his "mighty clouds of joy!".....bt
Holly Jesus beautiful, great song, great singer! Hallelujah! One the best gospell songs B. J. Thomas is one the best singers of all times in the world, we love him in Brazil, his greatest hit here was Rock'n'roll lullaby.
Classics BJ Thomas song from the Summer of 1971. I have the song by him on my Christmas Various Artists Mixed Oldies along with Apollo 100's-Joy,Jose Feliciano's-Feliz Navidad,Johnny Mathis's-Calypso Noel,James Brown's-Soulful Christmas and Chuck Berry's-Run Run Rudolph and many other's between 1939 and 1972.
Man, let's take it to church on this one. I used to play this over and over because it was doing something to my heart. I need to get back to that feeling, and hope. Marc.
I had this song on a 45RPM record way back when, and I used to play it over and over because it had so much feeling. Man, this is one of the hottest things B.J. Thomas ever did, in my opinion. By the way, I don't what the heck happened to that 45. Darn it!!!!!!! Marc Trainor.
It's great the way Mr Thomas sings this. And it sounds like so much fun hearing it in his voice..he's sure got one of those listen to it all day variety's doesn't he. Thanks for putting this up.
Not an easy song to find. I first heard this wonderful song on a K-Tel hits album my mom bought back in the day. I loved it then. Alas, the record was lost and I had such a time finding it. Thanks.
Thanks for bringing this wonderful song alive with your video. This song is one of my all-time favorites from BJ Thomas, and I will be hitting replay, many many times to come.
thanks so much for posting this!!! This is the one song I have been looking for, for such a long time, as it is a all-time favorite song from BJ Thomas. It will get alot of replay from me!!
