  • Greg was so cute. xD

  • Can you upload some weather clips from the storms that went through NC?

  • Greg's glasses sure are sexy! haha

  • Gregg looks better today.

  • god greg looks old still!lol

  • When she left in 1988 she moved To Chicago and Finally to Denver

  • Correct. She was in Chicago until 1993.

  • NO, Adele Arakawa Left in 1989

  • Hate to burst your bubble, however, Adele most certainly did leave in November 1988 -- the day AFTER the North Raleigh tornado killed four people and destroyed countless businesses and homes. She was originally supposed to leave the day of the tornado, but was asked to stay on an extra day because of the extensive coverage of the disaster.

  • does anyone remember the segment called "Wednesday's child", it use to be on at lunch time I think on WRAL at noon, probably the mid to late 80's.

  • Actually, it was originally something Adele Arakawa did. Donna Gregory carried on the torch in 1988 after Adele's Departure. The segment eventually morphed into something Pam Saulsby took over after she joined the Six O'Clock News Team in 1991. Finally, the segment was dropped all together in the early to mid 90s.

    To randygupton2:

Charlie Gaddy originated Wednesday Child. Charlie did a super job providing very moving stories about the great kids. It did not originate with Adele. Photographer was Patty McQuillen.

  • Also Donna Gregory Did or Did not Replace Adele Arakawa

  • Donna -did- replace Adele. Adele's last day on the air was after the North Raleigh tornado that ripped through the Glenwood Avenue North area November 27, 1988.

  • Greg looks so young

  • Give me the Full date of C. Gaddy's B-Day?

  • The 24 hour news logo looked simular to KIRO's logo, & I think Roger Thompson also did voiceovers for KIRO, too.

  • Aww...I dont think the open is that bad. Any fly-through of a CG city is always cool.

  • Well ... remember the CG is a re-package from 1988. If it were a brand new CG -- that would be one thing. It just looks as if this was done on the cheap.

  • I wonder how much it did cost to do that CG. It may have been a way for them to get the most out of their investment. It was a natural progression in their on-air look through during early '90s.

  • Stuck in the middle of a BORING air mass ... LOL Greg Fishel certainly was rather clever in his prime, except for the lousy puns he's been known to emit on occasion.

  • Don't worry about answering my question. I would rather turn to Johnny Carson. Because I wouldn't want to have been scared by the MCA-TV logo at the end of Amen.

  • what followed the newscast then? A sitcom rerun? This is the pre-David Letterman days

  • For many years on WRAL, a sitcom rerun would air during the 11:30 p.m. half hour after the 11:00 News. The list of sitcoms that aired in the timeslot include "M*A*S*H", "Married...with Children" and "Amen".

  • I guess it's a matter of preference. I actually liked this particular generation of news opens (not the best, though). Granted, they pretty much gave up on this generation of music and graphics when they dumped the talent intros in favor of the quick opens (around the Winter of '93 where they expanded the Noon News and added the 5:00 First News). Now, the version of this intro where they used the "North Carolina's News Leader" slogan and had a different voiceover was much better.

  • I'm pretty sure the voiceover here is Roger Thompson, who is the current voice of WJLA in Washington. I don't think the open is too bad, the 1988 one was better. The music though is nice (the package is "Finale" by Stephen Arnold Music).
