It's weird that you say it hurt while getting it drained. I actually tore my ACL the first day of spring football and about 5 days after I got it drained, then had surgery. And about a week after surgery I got it drained again. The only pain I had was when they were sticking me with the needles.... I had 40cc taken out before surgery and 90cc after surgery.... The tube is 60cc..... I felt immediate relief as soon as it started draining.
I hate that the doc has to keep moving the needle around like that. How does he know when to stop? I ask because your knee still looked puffed to me even when there was a good amount of blood in the syringe.
Also, I would have expected a much smaller needle - how far is that thing going in
If it hurt that bad with a numbing injection, imagine how terrible it would be without. I'm disappointed to hear that you still had pain despite the numbing agent.
Hey joe im a muay thai fighter who got acl surgery six months ago, everything seems fine with my knee but theres seems to be excruciating pain at a certain incision when its hit. I want to take a fight but im afraid leg kicks might destroy it again; im wondering if it will always have that weak spot or will it go away in the coming months?
I tore my mcl and my acl playing football. I had two vials of fluid taken out of my knee. Honestly I was scared as hell to get it done but surprisingly it didn't hurt! It actually felt good cause there was so much pressure to my knee.
@greenjeepers: I'm wondering why yours didn't hurt: bigger injection of lidocaine to start off? Maybe the needle didn't have to penetrate as far? Or maybe you were so badly off that anything was an improvement.
If I have to get this done, I have to think about where to go. It seems to me there are some people who give injections or blood tests painlessly, yet with others, the same little thing hurts badly. Knee drains must be the same way to some degree.
Yeah, getting your knee drained SUCKS. I had mine drained in late 2009, about a month before my TTT (tibial tubercle transfer) surgery. This was worse.
dude i got this done once and i ddint get tht numbing stuff and now i dislocated my right knee and im gettin it doen again tommarow this was the most painfull suffering i have ever ben threw in my life im so afraid of getting it done tommarow im almost crying
these procedures are pretty benign. Biggest risk is infection. If you have a knee problem get it fixed asap...waiting is just adding extra suffering. Get it fixed asap
OMG, I have OA and a mencius tear, they want me to do the fluid injections....and Im thinking NOT after I saw this...I know eventually I will need the surgery but thats insane..your damn tough!
I had both my ACLs replaced in my right knee. Docs had to open my leg up and staple my cartilidge back to my bone. Then they took graphs off my knee cap and used those as my new ACLs. And I went through like 6 knee draining sessions.. Not fun at all. My entire leg was black and purple
hey mate while you were in the brace from the acl tear did you develop lumps down your leg coz i tore my mc and acl 6 weeks ago i took my brace off last night and it is swollen like your knee but i have lumps down there iam really worries about them is it normal to have them
@DIMATIF: Couldn't walk for 4 days? That can't be the norm. Did your doc screw up? I'm hearing of people getting drains and then driving with that leg.
Tore acl oct 5 09 had it drained on the 11th 2 full syringes, the used what i call like a freeze spray sprayed it stuck the needle and did it took like 30 secs
, i suggest laying back and not watching but if u do need it done dont hesitate it was like instant relief i had torn my acl completely which leads to bleeding and stiffness and swelling the morning after i tore it was the worst could barely get outa bed had it drained and was able to rehab for a month before surgery on nov 25 09
im probaly going to have this done i can feel the fluid alot in my knee after having tendonitis and a pulled tendon does this hurt since i heard this will be done with a needle i wanted to se how it will be odne and this looks scary and painful please reply
My doctor tried 6 times from the middle and got nothing, it hurt like hell. I went to the ER right after because it got huge quick after that, they drained it from the top first try. I made a video of it also.
For Sure, I just got it done Yesterday. The Doctor I go to is really good, so it was pretty much a Painless Procedure. But I will say it was a little unfomfortable when the big horse needle went in haha. It was definetly worth it, got immeadite relief. I've still got stiffness and some pain but nothing like before. I had 35ccs of fluid removed.
I had my knee drained and it didn't hurt because the doc numbed the injection site with ethyl chloride, inserted the needle. It was uncomfortable but not painful. The end result was definately worth it.
Had this done. It is 100x worse than it looks. Best thing is to pump yourself up. I talked to myself while he was doing it and It helped distract me. It's horrible but this is necessary because fluid buildup is bad
gettingmy knee drained was the worst pain ever, not to mention i dint get any numbing or anything and they took out 70cc/ml of fluid in other words that whole big needle full
I had my knee drained due to infection. The doctor asked me if I wanted any local anesthesia, I declined only because I was certain nothing could make my knee hurt worse than it already did. I was placed on antibiotics (and pain killers) and was back to work in 4 days.
if u do not have the fluid removed...it will become infected...and that will hurt far more worse....in other words...if u have fluid build up in ur left knee and set ur right knee on fire......u can bet ur ass u will grab ur left knee 1st lol....trust me i know
so if you dont get it drained does it go away after time or it stays there???...i got surgery in my knee and its swollen surgery was a month ago...cant bend knee bcuz its so swollen..
I watched this whole vid, and didn't reliaze it was Joe Lauzon until I saw the face and ears, damn my knee is still swollen from acl surgery and it's been over a month already, good luck hope to see you fight soon
I had it done yesterday. I just laid there and that was it. Im more concerned that I have to go back next week and do it again. My knee hurts more now than when I had the actual surgery to remove the hematoma.
Unfortunately after draining that much the first time, the knee usually fills up again, however probably less than before, I hope you wrapped it up good and tight after that draining to reduce the "re-fill". I hear that it is indeed very painful. THANKS FOR SHARING!!
That was awesome bro. That was a great demo on how to drain a hematoma of the right knee after an ACL repair. That was at least 33 cc's of blood your doc drained from your knee....it's a good thing he drained it cuz if the hematoma stayed there, it could have become a nidus for infection and the re-absorption time would be significant. If the hematoma was left alone and coagulated in the joint, it potentially could affect the mechanical working of the joint due to its size.
dang man! theres something very disturbing when a guy as tough as you is in that much pain . That procedure looks like it should be in "Saw VI" lol. glad to see your doing well other then that though. -cheers
