  • anyone hear anything at 1:23?

  • They should kill the stupid cunt who crashed this version by dubbing in and saying "montreaux jazz live" all throughout this tune, totally ruined the moment... fuck you very much, asshole!

  • Sucks I never saw GM in person. Dude could be a shredder, a ballad singer and a blues king all in one evening!

  • 1:23 What is that?

  • he was a great picker and he could sing really good and thats unuseuall

  • What a Master of the guitar,

  • One of the great Blues guitarists of all time. RIP.

  • Gary Moore was one of the absolute best and it will be a long time before anybody will show up and knock his name down on the list

  • No one compares to this guy, awesome!

  • this kind of blues/jazz isn't even my favorite type of music but even i'm having goosebumps when Gary's solo-ing. Jeeez can this super-human play guitar or what ! RIP Gary. you the man !

  • incredible feel ! just incredible

  • Stormy monday it is... today ;)

  • He always sang like he had Marbles in his mouth........but dang he could fucking play!!! Killer Vibrato. I like Gary with Fenders so much more then a Les paul also. Killer Player.........RIP. :0(

  • Who is this Gary Moore u speak of ? A decent rendition of this "classic" ....however.

  • Excellent job

  • Can it be better then this. WOW!

  • Freddie King & Stevie Vai: Not Comparable.

Kirk Hammett & Django Reinhardt: Not Comparable.

Lawson Rollins & Rory Gallagher: Not Comparable.

Gary Moore & Stevie Ray Vaughan: PERFECTLY Comparable.

  • 5.54-6.04 just exploded my head !!!

  • stop with the comparing and arguing who was better, gary had skill, technique, and played over his means sometimes but he was awsome.stevie had all this but his style was flawless,he nevere missed a note, and he played with more tone, heavier strings.there is a big difference in style here, you cant judge either against one another. so give it up and enjoy the music. please

    .

  • @blazvignater "you cant judge either against one another" Sure you can. If you have the musical knowledge to do so you can determine who had the better technique (GM) who had the more advanced melodic sense (GM) who had the better sense of composition (GM) and who was more versatile (GM).

  • It's not rocket science. SRV could never have played the type of stuff Gary was doing in the 70s, he just didn't have the technique. And anyone who knows anything about SRV knows that he struggled big time as a songwriter which is not something you can say about Gary because he had the more advanced sense of melody and composition - essential skills for a competent and prolific songwriter.

  • @mnhay27

He had a different technique, not "better." This isn't math or sports; it's music. You can't compare two completely different artists and determine which one is the best. These things are arbitrary when it comes to music. Stevie was a texas style blues player, and Gary was more of a shredder. Two different categories.

  • @regelemihai No, he had BETTER technique. GM could (and did) play the type of lightning fast, open string country-tinged licks that comprised the most impressive part of SRV's vocabulary. AND he could shred. You seem to be saying that their styles are not comparable which is just silly. Both played largely pentatonic/blues-based electric guitar. They are perfectly comparable. People just don't wanna admit that GM could play what SRV played PLUS a WHOLE LOT MORE.

  • @mnhay27

They're not comparable in that their respective styles of Blues were not the same; not that they didn't both play pentatonic scales. SRV was Texas blues and GM was not. I even said that he was more of a shredder while SRV wasn't. Two different styles of playing. You can't judge the quality of a player by how fast he can play.

  • @regelemihai They both played pentatonic based blues rock with a heavy Albert King influence (although GM obviously played other stuff as well). This makes them perfectly comparable. Just search for "Gary Moore My Baby (She's So Good To Me)" right here on youtube for an example of GM playing Texas-style blues on a Strat.

  • @mnhay27

He could play it but it wasn't a style, that's my point. We're comparing apples and oranges. You can't determine the quality of a Blues player by how fast and flashy he is. There are plenty of young cocky players who can also play fast--you can find them on YouTube even. That's not what makes a player great.

  • @regelemihai I really can't see how you can say its comparing apples and oranges. When playing blues, GM played a lot of the same licks as SRV and both predominantly used the same scales. What major differences can you point out? I agree that the quality of a blues player is not defined by his speed. I'd say phrasing is most important and SRV relied very heavily on the same half dozen licks. GM had a much wider vocabulary.

  • @mnhay27

"What major differences can you point out?"

Well, like I said before; SRV wasn't a shredder like Gary. That's a pretty major difference.

And I completely agree with you. Phrasing is what's important. Now I definitely agree that SRV had his favorite licks, and he became famous for using them, but I don't think he was repetitive. I think both him and Gary had a similar range. Listen to Texas Flood from Live at El Mocambo. He played for 15 straight without dulling anything.

  • @regelemihai I'm not talking about Gary's rock/shred stuff, I'm talking about his straight-up blues stuff. Obviously you can't compare his shred to SRV's blues. But then again, I suppose that's really my point. SRV was just a (fantastic) blues player whereas Gary had many more strings to his bow. Versatility is a key ingredient in making a world class musician.

  • @mnhay27

On that we agree. It would've been nice(r) if SRV had spread into other genres of music. But as far as staright up blues playing is concerned, I really haven't seen Gary Moore play differently than how he played every time he was on stage. The shredding is an integral part of his playing; he never went a single blues song without doing it (at least not to my knowledge).

  • @regelemihai That's true of GM's early blues stuff but not once he got into it. For example check ot "If You Be My Baby" Live At The Sheperd's Bush Empire, 1995 here on youtube. His phrasing and restraint may well surprise you!

  • @mnhay27

Will do sir, thank you. I'm on it right now. Have a good weekend :)

  • @mnhay27

I'm back just to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised. I also came across "Need your love so bad." Seems like you were right. I've never seen that side of Gary before. Breaks my heart even more listening to him now.

  • @mnhay27 and an arguement starts. Im not saying I didnt like him.stevie was cleaner. your right,he did have all of what you say,but he was sloppy.

  • @mnhay27 how about forget about acting like were all the professionals here. obviously neither one of us knows what were talking about. otherwise one uf us would be out making a living off this stuff like gary and stevie did.so give it up and enjoy the sweet sound of Gary Moore, please.

  • these comments on here sound like a sewing circle im going to go listen to rory gallagher

  • this thrills me deep down where it counts.

  • Comment removed

  • That's the tone, and feel!!!

  • I know its not nice to think about but...SRV did out sell Gary by quite a bit I believe.

  • This can make a man out of ya.....I'm still workin on it..Thanks for the inspiration Gary..Joseph

  • I have to agree with mnhay27 except for the soul part SRV played wit a lot of passion and soul, and wen yu get rite down to it nobodt really no's how much soul yu have unless they know ya.I believe all the great guitarist's have to have soul or they wud not be great at wat they do but Gary was great in all genre's,plus he was great at mixin them together.

  • @dictator54 Yeah, you're probably right about that. You can't really measure the amount of feeling a guitarist puts into his playing. In fact, a good deal of the soul involved is in the ear of the listener.

  • Respond to this video... THAT IS COS GARY MOORE WAS SHIT LIVE

  • OMG 1:23 that voice scared the shit outa me

  • Fuckin YEAH

  • I have one regret with Gary Moore... I just recently learned of him this past week... Wish I would have known of him sooner. Love his sound. And his expression in his music and connection that he has with his music.

  • Comment removed

  • man, someone needs to delete these stupid comments by these stupid idiots.

  • @unravelled1962 You are SO right about that yorkshire asshole. He hangs around Gary Moore vids, and badmouths them all. He tries to start arguments, and often succeeds in really pissing people off. Have you been to his subscription page? There is one vid of his fat ass playing rhythm (poorly) along with an almost passable cellist, who does all the work. It is PATHETIC. I hope enough peeps catch on to him, and we can get him BANNED!

  • @yorkshiretractors Fucking lime breath can't even construct a proper sentence! You Yorkshire faggot.......why don't you just drink some poison, then have massive intestinal cramps before shitting yourself and dying a cruel death!!! Eat shit and die, you fucking hateful British halfwit. Cor, wot a cunt.

  • 7 people undeserving of the gift of hearing

  • Such a loss-can't believe he's gone-I saw him in 87-saw a man turn into a guitar & a guitar turn into a man-amazing

  • he are simply genius

  • dang,i knew he was good but didnt think he was that good,he ties srv!

  • Just to wade into the SRV,, GM debate,,,(crikey mnhay is arrogant know it all),,,,,, Gary Moore was great and shocked us all in the UK when he about faced from what was a pretty straightforward (middling at best) heavy rock career, to do a good Blues album,,,, he then styled himself as a blues player. Gary was great, but as a Blues player not even in the ball park of SRV.

  • Just compare SRV jamming with A.King and then GM,,,, Moore had a heavy metallers tone and chops,,,, and good but not great blues sensitivity. Gary always had way too much distortion which I think is detrimental to his playing,,,

  • SRVs tone laid his technique, sensitivity bare,,,,,,SRV was Texas blues from day one and never swayed,,,,,, he loved Hendrix after witnessing a concert. SRV mastered and defined Texas blues,,,,GM comes from an Irish/british rock/metal career and created a new thing really,,,British/Irish blues with a metal tone....so we are really comparing chalk and cheese,,,,,

  • though I do believe that SRV perfected his own particular playing to a far greater degree than GM did,,,, he had chops, but twas easier with that Marchal Govener smoothing it all out...... The strat above is a little revealing in terms of finesse,,,, that the humbuckers sort of hide.... though GM is amazing!!!! Just not as amazing as SRV,,,, or Hendrix.....

  • @steve1969pierce Marshall that would be!!

  • @steve1969pierce I don't understand ' the strat above is a little revealing in terms of finese' and then follow that humbuckers sort of hide...really..take it you haven't been playing long...sometimes ignorance is shown in quotes without understanding..srv ..moore...both great but different...Gary didn't come from heavy rock as you state but from the blues and moved into rock,,, prog then heavier type rock and back to the blues.. ..'still got blues' ring any bells...

  • @junglecharm my facts are fine JC, and I have been playing guitar since about 1983. I know the difference between a tube overdriven strat into a fender amp and a Humbucker overdriving into a stack of Marshalls, through a Marshall Governor pedal,,,, Gary used a lot of distortion,,,, much more than say SRV, KWS, or any of the current crop of blues guys would use. Even Joe Bonamassa uses less distortion and a far purer tone.

  • @steve1969pierce TBH i was expecting something a little more in depth...so let's say we'll agree to disagree...and yes mr Moore knew distortion but only when it suited....and that's be totally honest ..you as a player of 28 years can't just pigeon hole Moore's style to 'overdriven strat into fender' and 'a Humbucker overdriving into a stack of Marshalls, through a Marshall Governor pedal,,,, ' as I mentioned was expecting a little more..

  • @junglecharm actually it has become completely obvious you really have no idea what you are talking about and have lead the way in personal attack and trying to undermine my comments in this way,,,,,

  • @junglecharm I do know what I am talking about, I am right and you are a sad assed Gary Moore fan who cant see passed that. You are the one who started the personal attacks,,,,therefore logically you are the twat,,,,,lol...... Evidence for all to see,,, I offered an opinion which I have every right to and you are a fascist twat!!!

  • @junglecharm GM played everything with a tonne of distortion,,,,, you'd have to look pretty hard to find a song played without any... Still got the blues quiet, slow,,,,,,,thoroughly saturated!! He was a hard rock guitarist playing blues.

  • @junglecharm I struggle to listen to GM because it is too distorted for my taste. This is particularly evident and brought into sharp relief anytime GM plays with say Albert King. Just look at Alberts face when playing with Moore (grimace) and with SRV (pure joy). Now all the arguments about whos better than who are obviously futile,,,,,,,, but it is and should be fun to do,,,, dabating is part of the fun of life.... Doesnt matter whos right or wrong just enjoy the conversation!!!

  • @steve1969pierce Totally agreed conversation should be enjoyable and who's better is futile ...as I mentioned different..Mr Moore was a gentleman and always complimentary to SRV throughout his career as well as others..remembering one of his quotes 'no point in any guitarist claiming to be the greatest while JB is still alive'......Do you recall what BB had to say about GM. To say all Moores' music was distorted is like saying Jimi didn't use pedals...!

  • @junglecharm your facts maybe sort of correct but they do not give fair weight each of his phases,,,, in the 80's GM was a Kerrang man!! He was a metaller,,,,, he was one of the patches on the denim cut offs,,,, that was his major success his main thing,,,, that is where he developed his tone. It was not like Peter Green,,,, it was a hard rock tone,,,, he then at a time when Blues was something that was off the radar about faced and surprised everyone....... It was a massive change at the time!

  • @steve1969pierce I will disagree when you mention my facts may sort of be correct when infact they are 100percent correct and for you to mention Moores' tone was mainly developed in the 80's is so so wrong and just silly tbh..I'm not being rude but as mentioned before if your going state something at least attempt to get it correct... so back to a little home work before you jump in with your reply please...

  • @steve1969pierce if you're going to attempt and state facts at least get them correct...not havin a go but sorta becoming very tired of people trying to put down one of the greatest ever to have graced a fret board..yes Gary Moore ...the most under rated guitarist ever to have lived...sadly missed...

  • @junglecharm by the way,,,,I can do what the fuck I want,,,, I can state facts or not it is not for you to tell me 'to do my homework', 'get my facts straight' or otherwise,,,,, I cant stand internet fascists. Dont tell me what to say or think,,, have an opinion, but leave it at that. It is just an opinion,,, stop trying to make people conform to your rules!! NO RULES ON THE NET!!!! If you disagree np, leave the fascism at home!

  • @steve1969pierce For somebody who reckons they have played for 28 years why do you behave like a 12 year old being a lout hiding behind a monitor...just so sad...and yes the internet is for little boys also...I'm sure you do feel at home...and I certainly wont be dragged into a slagging match within a person with such a low level of intelect and shaddy use of the Queens' English...I only mentioned for you to do some research to save you any further embarrassment..

  • @junglecharm prick

  • @steve1969pierce Well thank you once again and I must admit it's better being a prick than someone who's never grown a set of balls as yourself....once again..please desist in your foolishness and attempt a real dispute when you grow up or mature...face to face but do ensure you can take care of yourself as I feel you may be assaulted..no doubt that's why you hide around these parts throwing nasty comments about... but thanks for the comment....

  • @junglecharm yaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @steve1969pierce Thank you once again and thanks for the spelling corrections or rather typo mistakes corrections...but you do make me laugh for that thank you...and yes I do match your education standards apart from where we attended...and please understand I wouldn't have time to waste to take this any further unless you'd like to step into the ring of course but that you wouldn never ever agree to...

  • @junglecharm looking at your command of English I very much doubt you match my 'educational' standards, those are not typo's they are errors; spelling and grammatical. I doubt your 'ring' is very pleasant so I shan't be going anywhere near it let alone stepping in it,,, go on put on 'Still Got the Blues', gaze at the Marshall Guvner on the cover and have a little think about blues guitar tone and how much easier it is to play with a saturated tone.

  • @steve1969pierce as mentioned you do make me laugh...thank you once again...right I'm off to get me guv out and become a blues legend in an easy ten mins....but one with a little too much distortion..!!!...

  • @junglecharm bet you can't!

  • @steve1969pierce I can't because I just put me guv on gumtree...!....just too much distortion ...!!!!

  • @junglecharm by the way this is how to spell 'intellect', I have a degree and two post graduate degrees so match that jerk!!! And I'm quite happy to meet you face to face,,, without a monitor as protection! You are a loser on every count!

  • @steve1969pierce The only person behaving like a goon fascist here is yourself ..Not only in this as some would say debate...I'd say trying to communicate with a person with anger issues and other dis-functional problems..in person or public... what ever it may be you'd do all the work into making yourself appear foolish once again..please desist and realise that silliness isn't a form of aggression..Thank you

  • @junglecharm encountering 'dysfunctional' people seems to be part and parcel of the net.... When you criticize someones use of the English language,,,,, try to spell properly. If you analyze the communications you will quite easily see that you became aggressive and personal first. Because you couldn't cope with someone having a different and perfectly valid opinion to your own. Gary Moore used too much distortion for a blues player, this is a hangover from his Kerrang years, this is fact.

  • @junglecharm and yes,,, you are right I do have an anger issues with people who try to control my opinions.

  • @steve1969pierce Are you two finished yet?

  • @gilbert20 WHAT IS WITH YOU YANKS WHY DO YOPU COME HERE TALKING SHIT ABOUT SUMOT YOU KNOW NOWT ABOUT I MEAN YOU DONT EVEN KNOW THAT GARY MOORE IS A PISS UP ASSHOLE WHO CANT PLAY LIVE AND WHO ONLY EVER PLAYED TO HALF FULL GIGS IN THE UK COS US ENGLISH KNOW WHAT A TWAT HE IS

  • @yorkshiretractors There's no need to SHOUT, mate. And I understand that you are angry because you drive a lorry that hauls rubbish for a living. Who cares? Just because some of us went to University it does not mean we are better than you.............

  • @steve1969pierce It really doesn't matter whether you believe I'm arrogant or not, shooting the messenger won't change the message. SRV was one of the greatest blues players of all time but Gary Moore was one of the greatest all-round guitarists of all time. He was more versatille, had better techinque and a more advanced sense of melody and composition. Those are the facts.

  • @mnhay27 it's like saying Marilyn Monroe was more beautiful than Catherine Zeta Jones... The are both 10's just different. SRV, Clapton, Moore, Beck, Hendrix, Page.. etc etc etc They're all fucking great !

  • @DeanLisi No it's really not. Physical beauty is a matter of personal taste and perception. Guitar playing technique is something that can be measured and assessed - that's how people get grades. Who sounds better to your ear is down to personal taste and perception. Who has the better technique and more advanced sense of melody is not.

  • Gary moore the best.!!

  • 8 people must be deaf.

  • amazing player, top five of all time for sure

gilmour, clapton, page, srv, hendrix, moore and popa chubby

  • Gary Moore vs Stevie Ray Vaughan; the answer is obvious

  • RIP Gary, We gonna miss ya

  • TODAVIA NO SIENTO QUE TE EXTRAÑO....

  • LORD HAVE MERCY!! LORD HAVE MERCY!!!! MERCY ON ME CUZ THIS EARGASM WAS JUST TOO MUCH awesome blues man!!!!!

  • SRV by a wide margin. I like Gary Moore though.

  • @wowojeejee That's just plain silly. SRV was a geat blues guitarist - but that's all he was. GM was a guitar virtuoso who was as comfortable playing pop, rock, heavy metal, jazz fusion, and folk as he was playing blues. From a technical perspective there was nothing SRV could play that GM could not. Conversely, SRV would never in a million years have been able to play the fusion stuff GM was playing with Colloseum II. And when it comes to playing with soul, nobody but NOBODY could beat Gary.

  • @mnhay27 , I totally agree with your opinion.. Yes, SRV was good but you can't compare him with a genius. And to talk about blues, Gary played the songs differently everytime; his ability was getting better year by year and the most important: he put his soul to the music.... SRV had much fewer ideas and athough you can "hear" the feeling in his music, he was always trying to play like other big guitarists (Jimi Hendrix,Albert King etc). Gary never did this...

  • @mnhay27 thats funny, SRV couldn't play fast gary moore, uhhh ever herd of rude mood. I'd like to see GM play rude mood. I'm actually a GM fan, styles are different. SRV cood do it all, RHYTHM and LEAD, GM is more of a lead player. GM deserves to be in the top 5, but SRV wood B #1

  • @motokev I didn't say SRV couldn't play fast, I said he didn't have GM's technique. Look, this really isn't a matter of opinion. I've been playing guitar for 16+ years, have a Diploma in popular music and have taught my share of kids to play. If there's one thing I understand its guitar techniques. If you doubt that GM could play Rude Mood you haven't been paying attention. SRV was one of the finest blues players ever but he didn't have GM's technique nor his sense of melody and composition.

  • @mnhay27 MELODY !! R U serious ! ever listen to SRV's little wing or Lenny or to infinity and beyond. U say SRV can't play MELODY ? my GOD !! Look, I love GM, I own a few albums and DVDs. But, he's a totally different player than SRV. GM wants to play a million notes per sec. He really doesn't play much rhythm. SRV could do it all, plus better vocals. I wood of liked GM to try and play Little Wing like SRV did, all those different tones, oh my

  • @motokev SRV didn't write Little Wing nor his his version melodically advanced. I don't think you understand where I'm coming from. I'm not offering a subjective opinion on who was "better" I'm giving an educated summary of who had the most advanced technique and melodic sensibilty. And that was GM. And if you think SRV used a wider variety of tones than GM you REALLY haven't been paying attention.

  • @mnhay27 I know SRV didn't write little wing, even my dog knows that. Well, you believe what you want. I'm sure if we took a poll, I t would go in my favor. And !! whats funny, SRV isn't my favorite. Gilmour is. Now, tell me that GM is more melodic than gilmour when it comes to solos. Just to let U know, I put GM in my top 5, now are you happy.

  • @motokev I will say this, GM Red House is beyond word as is MESSIAH version he did.

  • @mnhay27

LOL... You're a complete fucking Moron!

  • @4eversrvfan Wow, what a brilliantly insightfull comment. I bet you're an incredibly well respected member of your community with thousands upon thousands of friends literally hanging on your evey word - I know I would be.

  • @mnhay27 I hate comparing guitarists. SRV has a big place in my heart, as do Gary Moore... Don't compare them, please.

  • @SparcoC4 GARY MOORE THE MAN WHO FUCK UP THIN LIZZY

  • @thegreatlizzy WTF? I don't listen to Thin Lizzy

  • @SparcoC4 LOL Why am I getting the blame for the comparison? 5 months ago 1974romina asked "Who was better? Gary or SRV?" and wowojeejee relied "SRV by a wide margin." That's when I pointed out that Gary had better technique and a more advanced sense of melody and composition - which he did. So if you wanna blame someone, blame 1974romina.

  • @SparcoC4 I couldn't agree with you more. Could you really compare Santana to Jeff Beck or Gary Moore or SRV? That's so wrong on many levels. Appreciate them as they are.

  • Who was better? Gary or SRV?

  • I hate it how at Montreux vids there is always a woman saying "Montreux Jazz Live" every few minutes.

  • First lyric sounds exactly like bb

  • Goodnight, Gary......it was all quite lovely really......;)))

  • Woooooow!!!! what a good version of this great blues song

  • Woooooow!!!! what a good version of this great blues song

  • great version of a classic tune........the SRV?Albert King duet is stunning!!!

  • The Lord of the Strings

  • damn...thats sweet

  • I´ll miss you so - your guitar will never die. Sleep in peace Gary.

  • man oh man i wish i could play blues like this

  • Excellet nice job

  • amazing

  • I love Gary with a Strat!

  • in my own, gary moore is not pedophile...

  • @yorkshiretractors, why dont you have the fucking strength to avoid videos which you obviously dont like? Is it SO hard for you to restrain the urge to put "Gary Moore" into the search bar and click the according button? If you feel so, you have my sympathy. If not, youre just an idiot wasting your worthless time spoiling everyones joy and pleasure about Blues! So just fuck it!

  • @MaddinW1993 You are so right!

  • @MaddinW1993 Haven't you noticed that yorkshiretractors is mentally unstable? He is a hateful cunt whose sole purpose in life is to stir up shit with commenters. That's it. Nothing more. I hope he dies soon.

  • I live near Memphis Tn in the USA. I would love for Gary Moore to come anywhere near here to perform. I would definitely be sitting in the front row. He is by far, my favorite guitarist. I like Stevie Ray Vaughn also and some others, but Gary is the best in my book.

  • @yorkshiretractors Gary was "sude"? HAHAHAHAHAHA You never graduated elementary school! Fucking twat.

  • Lord have Mercy... this is awesome!

  • There's a guy on here calling himself "Yorkshiretractors" who has been bad mouthing Gary Moore, beware of his bullhit. Apparently Gary had a little something going on with this tractor boy's wife at some stage in the past and that's where his bitterness comes from, sad little pathetic little man. Long live Gary Moore, what a player!!!

  • @road2ruins Oh really?????? So THAT is his beef? What a cunt. You know, yorkshiretractors is a garbadriver. But I never knew what made him so angry and bitter. What a total cunt!

  • Fantastic version, what a player!

  • If we Irish get the chance to get as old as he is, we get very cranky. It just isn't natural for us to live that long...

  • this is what I am talking about !!

  • I love this vid :)

  • damn.
