Anyone who thinks this is insulting or defamatory should watch the video for Queen's "I Want to Break Free" and ask whether Freddie took himself as seriously as they are taking him. If they still think this is insulting or defamatory, they (seriously) need to lighten up.
To be honest, this more like a tribute to me than mockery. Sure, it does poke fun at Freddie, but there is such a thing as affectionate parody. Watching it, I really get the feeling that Electric Six care a lot about Freddie, particularly with the last shot of his grave.
Also, a side note. I can't seem to decide which name is more awesome: Freddie Mercury or Dick Valentine?
It shows Freddie's ghost coming back for one last song if you will. It's not intended to be someone else dancing on his grave, it's supposed to be him! At least that's how electric six explained it.
Except that we'll never know if Freddie would like someone impersonating him and dancing on his grave; as well as making fun of his teeth which he was quite insecure about.
Almost, but not quite....the music comes across as unsophisticated in places it really should have been better.
If E6 had done this of their own accord, rather than being forced by their company, we would have had something that would have blown us all out of the water. As it is it kinda feels phoned in in places :/
Freddie would have approved because of there other songs. Namely "Gay Bar". My friends dad was a policemen and he was investgating a murder in a Gay bar and Freddy Mercury asked him to dance!
You say Britney Spears, i say Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
You say Jonas Brothers, i say SCREW OFF

GENIUS!! real tribiute to freddie and queen music!
I can't undearstand all you people wiriting all tis sh** stuff about electric six cover. Freedie would be proud that other people do this kind of thing with his music.
These guys are idiots. Freddie was cremated! HE HAS NO GRAVE! Plus, Electric 6 is rubbish. Is the point of the poodles to make fun of Brian May's hair? Fail.
Unfortunately they haven't made a homage to Queen or Mercury. In fact Valentine said that they were forced to record this song and put it in the album called "Señor Smoke" (2005). He commented that this video clip is so Ridiculous.
Electric Six does not deserve congratulations. Would be better to not have recorded the song.
I'd like to point out, this does not make the song bad at all, as a matter of fact, I prefer this version, as it is a much more "rock-ish" song, as opposed to the original. I love Queen, they're one of my favorite bands and I still think this is better than the original.
genfx has a point. i'm a big fan of queen, but it's not like he gave us life or so. they complain that this movie is making fun of his gayness. but in the meantime those queenfans laugh with other gay people. excellent video and pardon my bad english
Don't be so narrow minded. This clip is clearly a tribute to him, it shows that Freddie can still party out even after his death. It shows his immortality, rather than making fun of him.

I don't have any problem if it's a tribute to Freddie, the problem in this video is that this guy is dancing on Freddie's grave (not real, of course). I have certain respect to death.
That guy is supossed to be Freddie, you know that? So it's a fictial Freddie who dances on it's fictial grave. Don't be so serious, I'm a big Queen fan too and I totally whish that I could see Queen in it's glory days, but I still know a (not disrespectful) joke if I see it. And this is one of them.
Repulses me a little bit. Poor choice of 'symbols' and visuals. Seems almost like a parody rather than a memorial. Not a very large range of pitch... I'm happy Queen songs are being covered, but it doesn't seem like a lot of effort was put into this one, sorry to say.
That's because they didn't wanted to cover this song on the first place, their label forced them to do it. And if you listen to other Electric Six songs, you will see that their style is completely different, so it was a bad idea to make them cover a Queen song in the first place.
But even with that, I think this is an okay cover of the song.
It's a shame they didn't want to do it. This type of song should not be done half-heartedly, especially when you run the danger of enraging a fan base such as Queen's. While respecting Queen's image calls for a certain level of whimsy and camp, Queen was never crass as the Electric Six style strikes me. From an objective, technical viewpoint, I can agree this cover isn't terrible - and even alright, but as someone who feels connected to Queen music, this video just rubs me the wrong way.
The only cover of a queen song that wins!

Freddie is dancing on his own grave. What's the problem with that?
NoniLlama 3 years ago 2
That's not Freddie. That's a guy who tries to do something of Freddie's memory (from my point of view, he tries to do fun of him).
I think it's offensive, that's all. If you don't think so, it's OK.
