  • what scope is that?

  • Trijicon ACOG.

  • If I had known then what I know now, I would have gotten the ruger sr556 over my standard bushmaster ar. For around 500 more dollars the Ruger would have come loaded with all the add ons/ options that I bought anyway. And the gas piston system is so much more reliable.

  • "social work" lol

  • "25 Round for Social Work" Awesome!

  • Tell me about the type scope, brother

  • ogh my god this guys beard is effing awesome!

  • Social work. =) THAT'S HOW WE DO IT IN TEXAS Y'ALL!!!

  • Thanks for posting these vids, guys. You make a shooter in Australia, a country with very strict gun laws, very jealous. I havn't even touched a pistol or semi-automatic rifle in my life...And doubt I will ever be able to become licenced under these current laws. A used AR-15 in .223 in Australia will not go for anything less than $10,000 - and is only avaliable for 'professional' shooters. There are only a few thousand people in the country that have that privelage extended to them.

  • Come on up here and shoot sometime!

    Jeff

  • Thanks for the vid bro. What type scope do u have on there?

  • I just want to say thank you posting, answering emails so fast, your website, etc.

  • You're welcome - it's my pleasure.

  • What an epic beard.

  • dude out of all the people who review weapons i always check your vids out prior to purchase cause you the best no nonsense guy out there. just the best.

  • You can swap the 6.5 upper for your 5.56. That's directly from Ruger.

  • I have the 5.56, Could I just swap out the upper with this 6.8 and be good to go?

  • How would the ballistics be with this cartridge out of a 26" heavy fluted barrel with a 110 grain load?

  • I do not know. I know of no 26 inch rifles chambered for this cartridge.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Cabelas has a remington 700 chambered in it on their website...

  • 6.8 mm is my favorite bullet ever next to a 12guage

  • Nice video, my buddy has a 6.8 Spikes Tactical AR very nice rifles

  • Jeff, the short stroke piston system should me an advantage to us lefties, wayyyy less gas in the face than a DI ar I think :)

"and I married a very mean woman. Life is just dangerous." lmao!

  • How much does this weigh you think?

  • From the referenced review:

"The sample rifle weighed in at 7.75 pounds without magazine, and just barely over eight pounds with an empty standard-capacity magazine in place"

  • @Gunblastdotcom Hmm, pretty heavy for a AR. :-/ I should probably look into a rifle with less weight for the SHTF scenario lol. Thanks for the video big guy.

  • all these 6.8mm ar-15 style guns i see are the parts interchangable with 5.56 chambered ar-15s (minus whatever is 6.8mm only)?

  • @Luger718A1 i know its a dumb question im pretty sure most parts are

this gun is kind of like the hk416, with the different gas piston stroke system it uses and all

  • Hogue grips are the way to go

  • 25 ammo mag for social work? what social work do you do man :D

  • jeff,you never mentioned how it handled/shot!

  • Yes I did - it's in the Gunblast article.

  • @Gunblastdotcom

Where can i get some info on a toture test on the SR556 (mud, sand and water)?. Any help on this would be appreciated, I don't want to put down $1200-$1400 on an AR that isn't going to be reliable in the most adverse conditions. Thank you!

  • @bobsolla well sir,iam sorry!i didn`t get to your page,but i will as soon as i`am done responding.thank you!

  • MSRP is $1995. Actual price will be less.

  • @Gunblastdotcom the perks for workin at Ruge.... i could get the upper for jus about half that price =) already got the 556 which i think it effffin amazing... also got the mini tact also effffin amazing!!!... but i still pefer the orignial mini that came out w/ the folding stock 2 the new tact... everytime i bring it out i cant stop thinkin about the A-TEAM =) i still gota get the mini 30 2 complete the mini family. by any chance will u do a review on the 1911? or do u only do rifles?

  • likin the gun blast vehicle jeff what are the specs if you dont mind

  • It is a half-ton 2001 Chevy Suburban, upgraded with 17 inch black wheels. All leather inside, and very comfirtable for long trips to gun shows.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom well it sure is a dandy if i do ssay so myself

  • Why Ruger call this AR15 SR556/6.8? Why not call it SR68? The name got me confuse the first time i saw this rifle, i thought it could fire 5.56 & 6.8 out of the same berrel, because of the name.

  • I do not know.

    Jeff

  • @TigerBiteYou How the heck do you think you could fire two different sized diameter rounds out of the same barrel?

  • what does the barrel twist do to the bullet (1:7 , 1:9)

  • The twist stabilizes the bullet in flight by causing it to spin. The faster the twist, the longer the bullet it will stabilize.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom so how come people what the 1:7 twist if it make the bullet drop faster

  • The rate of twist has no effect on bullet drop, unless the bullet is not stabilized.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom thx for replying

  • @7halos1 Heavier bullets.

  • @7halos1 it's all about the grain of the bullet.

depending on the weight of bullets being used, the twist should change to give the best stabilization during flight.

  • 6.8 looks like it kicks quite a bit more compared to 5.56

  • @ibanezkid07 It does... I'd like to see the results of guys shooting this in three gun competitions.

  • @ibanezkid07

yeah but it has much more power and range than the 7.62x39 and 5.56x45. the recoil is still way less than the 7.62x51

  • are you left handed?

  • Yes, I am.

  • " and I married a very mean woman "

Now that is funny! Keep up the good work, oh and stay on her good side.

  • Thanks to YOU, Jeff, I now have to get this rifle. Why do you make people go out and buy these cool toys?

LOL...seriously, thanks for the info, cuz with that brass deflector, I HAVE to get that sucker this month.

  • would you put the sr556 in the same category as the colt?

  • Not at all. Two different systems. The Colt is direct gas impingement, and the Ruger is a piston. Both systems work very well, and I like both systems, but in my opinion the Ruger is a more accurate weapon.

    Jeff

  • Jeff i have been thinkin about buyin a rifle soon and would like to buy one that is chambered in the militarys next round...in your opinon what would that be? thanks

  • I have no idea. These decisions are made by politicians, not weapons experts, so your guess is as good as mine.

    Jeff

  • hey jeff would over penetration be an issue with this gun for home protection

  • Depends upon the home layout and the bullet used.

    Jeff

  • Hey Jeff I was just curious if you have looked at Alexander Arms the AR-15 6.5 Grendal and how it would compare to the 6.8 SPC.

  • Absolutely. I bought the first grendel that I could get several years ago. I can't post links on you tube, but there are at least two detailed reviews of the Grendel in the Gunblast.com archive section. I think it is much superior at long range to the 6.8 SPC.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thank you Jeff for the quick response. I enjoy your videos and has helped me with my purchases. I will look at the archive on Gunblast.com Thanks again.

  • How does it compare to the Barrett REC7?

  • Both are very good weapons, but I have limited experience with the Barrett. I have only fired the full-auto version of the Barrett.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom got a question...you're a lefthanded shooter, as i am. you didn't use a brass deflector in the video. in your shooting overall, did you need a deflector?

if not, then i'd DEFINTELY go out and get that ruger in the 6.8. already have two mini 14 tacticals, and love 'em.

    thanks!

  • The SR556 has a brass deflector, as have most ARs since 1984.

    Jeff

  • Yeah.....what do you mean by "social work"?

  • Resolving unsavory social conflicts, such as shooting the hell out of the punks in a home invasion.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Ok, thanks.

  • @Gunblastdotcom

    ha ha

  • Jeff, really enjoy your education that you give. Love that Ruger! I was wondering what you think a good all around scope for something like that would be, such that you could use the fold downs or the scope?

  • I really love the Trijicon Agog scopes for ARs.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom

Thanks Jeff..Appreciate your time...! Have a great evening.

  • Jeff, how is the accuracy of this cartridge compared to the 5.56 nato?

  • Hard to say. A much wider variety of ammo is available for the 5.56mm, as well as some match ammo, so finding an accurate load is much more likely.

    Jeff

  • Jeff, do you just not believe in eye protection?

It seems so incongruous with your adherence to the other NRA Gun Safety Rules. You've mentioned being an NRA lifetime member and also mentioned visiting the Whittington Center so you must have been admonished on this point dozens of times by other members.

Which is why I ask, I'm guessing it's a purposeful act on your part to not wear eye protection and was very interested as a long time viewer/reader to know the reason.

  • I just usually do not think about it. Sure, it would be a better idea, like wearing a seatbelt when driving, but I don't always do that either. I also ride a motorcycle without a helmet, work out in the sun without sunscreen, and I married a very mean woman. Life is just dangerous.

    Jeff

  • cool video!been wanting a sr-556;but not fond of the round, but the 6.8 spc i like!my only concern is ammo cost ,but hopefully it becomes cheaper as our military and civillians use it more.now just need to save up about $1500.00 in pennies and it is mine!

  • is it wrong that i find guns sexier than ANY woman on earth? No im not gay BTW

  • Whatever works for you. You need a Dillon Precision calendar!

    Jeff

  • i want a 556 sooooooooooooooooooooooo bad just wish i had 1500+ tax =(

  • Cicada sounds in the background! A very fun video.

  • social work?

  • @kingfisher44 someone breaking into your house a riot basically anything where people are trying to hurt you

  • can you bump fire it?

  • I have not tried.

    Jeff

  • Was that a Ruger belt buckle you were wearing? How do I get one of those?

  • Yes, it is a Ruger buckle. No longer in production, but if you want one, post in the classified section of the Ruger Forum that you are looking to buy one.

    Jeff

  • Nice video! Thanks for making it.

  • yo jeff, the link to the article no worky

  • Works fine from here.

  • jeff, what's the advantage of the 6.8, if any over the the 6.5 grendel?

  • The Grendel is a better cartridge.

    Jeff

  • they actually just featured this rifle on the best deffense on the sportsman channel lol

  • Dear Jeff,

do you have any experiences with the Remington 700 or the Mauser 98?

  • Yes, I have experience with both. They are very good rifles, but very different in the way in which they handle the cartridge from the magazine into the chamber. The Remington pushes the cartridge ahead of its bolt. The 98 guides the cartridge into the chamber with its large extractor. The 700 is easier and less expensive to manufacture, but is usually a very accurate rifle. The 98 design is still considered the best by many.

    Jeff

  • Man you got the life

    Traveling the U.S. shooting stuff

Getting try out all the new toys

    Keep up your social skills

  • I am truly blessed.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Did Ruger fix the problem with the front trigger pin walking? I bought the 556 when it first came out and I had constant problems with that pin walking out on me. I want one of these 6.8's but only if they fixed that problem with the trigger pin.

  • I do not know. Yours is the first that I have heard of with that problem.

    Jeff

  • @trapstar918420 Buy a set of KNS anti rotation/antiwalk pins for $20 or $30 bucks. You can install them yourself in 5 to 10 minutes. I put mine in after watching a youtube video with no problem, and it cured the problem.

  • @kdubb11 Well, funny thing is, I did buy the KNS kit and I was going to put them in, but I ended up selling the ruger to my good friend, who still has not installed the new pins. I was just wondering if Ruger picked up on the malfunction and fixed the problem with their newer rifles. I had heard some rumors that they did, but nothing for sure. It seems like they fixed it, since Jeff didn't have any problems and he hadn't heard of any problems like that. I did get one of the very first sr's, so..

  • "For social work" Awesome!

  • What exactly is the benefit to 6.8 SPC?

  • @Mrcaffinebean the 6.8 was designed to combine accuracy and stopping power for the troops in afghanistan the 5.56 is just to small and the 7.62 has to much recoil so they create the 6.8

  • More powerful than the 5.56mm.

    Jeff

  • They should make one in .243WIN.

  • @gragrn i know Armalite did a limited run of AR-10's chambered in .243WIN, i don't know much about availability, but they do exist in the AR platform!

  • @yekshimesh Thanks, I didn't know that. Cheers!

  • @gragrn

I know it's not the same gun, but i believe that remington makes a variation of their r-25 chambered in .243WIN. I could be wrong.

  • I have a question...of the three different ammunition-types for the AR-15 (.223, 5.56mm or 6.8mm) which do you prefer & which would be the most affordable? Keep in mind, the primary uses I have in mind are target shooting as well as "social work" as you put it...LOL. Any insight you can offer is always greatly appreciated as I know you always are honest & reliable. Great video, BTW...I always love to watch your vids. :)

  • @tchapman1977 .223 and 5.56 are the same.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 nope. shoot 5.56 in a .223 and your asking for problems.

  • @ricculus True, I already knew that, but you shouldn't buy a .223 barrel, its stupid. And the guy acted as if .223 and 5.56 where different calibers, which they aren't, just different pressure. I'm not stupid.

  • @Breakneckhydra1 It's all good man.

  • @tchapman1977 .223 and 5.56 are pretty much the same, the 5.56 is only a slightly hotter version of the .223 made by the military. .223 is cheapish at about 40 cents around average but I can buy it for 20 cents online. The 6.8mm is very expensive. 6.8 is supposed to be a better social work caliber.

  • @NortheastTactical Thanks! :)

  • I also have a 6.5mm Grendel and a 50 Beowulf, but the 5.56mm AR is a weapon which every American should own.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thanks for the info. I do appreciate your advice & honesty...even though you might not think it, it really means a lot to me & I'm sure it means alot to the others who watch your vids as well. I'm trying to save up enough for something other than a pistol (I've got a couple but my fave is my Walther P-38...very accurate & reliable). Lately, though, I've been thinking I need something w/a little more range & stopping power so your advice really helps. Thanks again! :)

  • Nice gun I want one in 6.8 now

  • What brand of ammunition do you prefer to use while doing your testing?

  • @Chris090883: he tends toward cor-bon for the pistols i believe, not sure about the rifles.

  • I used Hornady for this review.

  • Do you know if Ruger will restart the Mini-14 chambered for the 6.8 SPC round (I think it was called the Mini-6.8SPC.

  • I do not know.

    Jeff

  • Yeah yeah the guns nice... whatever. BUT THAT BELT BUCKLE IS SOMETHING ELSE!@@

  • iLove this gun

  • I still like my AK, looks scarrier :)

But I wouldn't want the Ruger pointed at me either.

  • two 25 mags for social work. lol

    would a 556/223 m16 mag fit 6.8 spc.

  • @choopdewoot Ive looked and looked, but i cant find anything definative, some say it will, some say it wont, and some say it will partially.

  • "Social work". LOL. That was great. I'm going to remembe that one.

  • @jasonsg4111 He says that all the time in his vids XD

  • looks nice

  • if only 6.8 was cheaper id pick an ar chambered for this round.

  • thats a purdy gun!

  • great vid jeff

  • first yes
