Ritalin and Adderall are not drugs that should be perscribed to kids for everyday use. I am an adult who uses Adderall maybe once a week, only when i know i have a busy work day ahead and i'll be there for 12 hours.

I'm not prescribed Ritalin, Adderall, or Vyvanse, but I take them. This is the truth, but I use them because the positives always outweigh the negatives, and so I think it's a personal matter.. The only view I have is that if Ritalin is legal, you should simply be able to make the decision on whether you'll use it and buy it, along with cocaine regardless of your diagnosis with a fictitious "disease" that everyone who visits a psychiatrist qualifies for.

I was on adderall for a number of years and it caused me numerous health problems. When I was on it I developed an irregular heart beat. When I was taken off it I had seizures. Amphetamine salts are bad for you not only physicaly, but mentaly as well. There have been studies done by reputable universities that show children who where given amphetamine based medications for ADHD where twice as likely to attempt sucicide as a teenager and over 4 times as likely to develop substance abuse problems
As an adult. Ritalin, Adderall, Strattera, ect. are all amphetamine salts, are addictive, and will produce withdrawal symptoms. There are many ways to deal with a child's ADD or ADHD that don't involve drugs.
ya i think comparing ritalin to cocaine is a little over the top. having been a sold out druggie for 2 years and doing just about everything that could possibly get you ,high, including coke, the most intense ritalin high (and that's after 40-45 mg) is no where near that of a line or two of coke, but the comedown off the ritalin is far worse in my opinion.....
actually if you actually have adhd than you won't get hyper and your dopamine level won't increase. The problem we have is mis-diagnosing kids and giving them pills without thorough inspection on the diagnoses given.
They need to start giving actual lab tests to confirm that the kids have adhd.
my boyfriend has been on adderall since he was 5, he is 18 now and he just stopped using it because he got tired of the withdrawal symptoms once he would come down. adderall made him use him use other drugs so he wouldn't feeel like crap. he just quit the adderall and now realizes it didn't help him in school at all. this generation is messed up, we have become the children that need to take speed to learn and pay attention. they may be beneficial sometimes but rarely.

That's true, but not just anything that will bring pleasure will flood the synapse with dopamine. Drugs like Ritalin and cocaine hitch a ride on dopamine transporters into neurons, then attach to the receptors on the vesicles where dopamine is stored, and force out all the dopamine in the vesicles. This causes the dopamine to flood the synapse (gap between neurons), causing that dopamine to bind to the receptors on the dendrites of the next neuron.

Perhaps a few might prescribe the drug more easily; but then your issue is with those doctors and not the drug itself. ADHD medications ARE effective for MANY people, if prescribed and taken responsibly. An extreme position of saying all ADHD medications are bad is just as silly as saying that ADHD medications are a 100% cure. Yes, the drug has abuse potential, but so do many other things in life.

Ritalin creates a higher net increase of dopamine over time; it doesn't create an instantaneous rush like cocaine. It effects more of the brain but allows more dopamine reuptake bleed-through. It's really not the same. Ritalin is bad, yes, but if you're going to do a segment like this do adderall and dexedrine. They are actualy made of speed (amphetamine isotopes/salts). Desoxyn is actually made of d-methamphetamine.

i take time release stuff, lasts all day. but i get anxiety and down when i take it(when its working). i feel great when it wears off and on the weekends when i don't take it. I can't imagine abusing it. My guess is its similar to cocaine but its effects aren't as euphoric and intoxicating but just as stimulating.

I'm not prescribed Ritalin, Adderall, or Vyvanse, but I take them. This is the truth, but I use them because the positives always outweigh the negatives, and so I think it's a personal matter.. The only view I have is that if Ritalin is legal, you should simply be able to make the decision on whether you'll use it and buy it, along with cocaine regardless of your diagnosis with a fictitious "disease" that everyone who visits a psychiatrist qualifies for.

I was on adderall for a number of years and it caused me numerous health problems. When I was on it I developed an irregular heart beat. When I was taken off it I had seizures. Amphetamine salts are bad for you not only physicaly, but mentaly as well. There have been studies done by reputable universities that show children who where given amphetamine based medications for ADHD where twice as likely to attempt sucicide as a teenager and over 4 times as likely to develop substance abuse problems

actually if you actually have adhd than you won't get hyper and your dopamine level won't increase. The problem we have is mis-diagnosing kids and giving them pills without thorough inspection on the diagnoses given.
They need to start giving actual lab tests to confirm that the kids have adhd.

my boyfriend has been on adderall since he was 5, he is 18 now and he just stopped using it because he got tired of the withdrawal symptoms once he would come down. adderall made him use him use other drugs so he wouldn't feeel like crap. he just quit the adderall and now realizes it didn't help him in school at all. this generation is messed up, we have become the children that need to take speed to learn and pay attention. they may be beneficial sometimes but rarely.

That's true, but not just anything that will bring pleasure will flood the synapse with dopamine. Drugs like Ritalin and cocaine hitch a ride on dopamine transporters into neurons, then attach to the receptors on the vesicles where dopamine is stored, and force out all the dopamine in the vesicles. This causes the dopamine to flood the synapse (gap between neurons), causing that dopamine to bind to the receptors on the dendrites of the next neuron.

one day about 5 years ago I took a ritalin, because my frind who had severe adhd gave me one. He uses them and they work for him. When he didn't have it, he could not focus at all...
But when I took it I may aswell have been on crack for real. I ran a 6 minute mile that day, and before had only gotten down to a 7 minute 30 mile...

Also, right here, you've highlighted the problem with the drug, and that problem is YOU. You are not prescribed ritalin, and yet you took it. That's bad, your brain isn't supposed to have that increased level of neurotransmitters. It's prescribed to people with ADHD due to their brain having decreased levels. They need the boost, you do not.

You are assuming doctors dont know how to effectively prescribe, monitor, and adjust doses. Perhaps a few might prescribe the drug more easily; but then your issue is with those doctors and not the drug itself. ADHD medications ARE effective for MANY people, if prescribed and taken responsibly. An extreme position of saying all ADHD medications are bad is just as silly as saying that ADHD medications are a 100% cure. Yes, the drug has abuse potential, but so do many other things in life.

tbh seems as if she is biased, i think the biggest issues with add drugs is that they are prescribed to be taken on a daily basis. Some people *do* have focusing issues, regardless of diet. Just because u urself dont need them doesn't mean others don't. Most kids on the stuff however do not need it, parents are just looking for an advantage

Ritalin creates a higher net increase of dopamine over time; it doesn't create an instantaneous rush like cocaine. It effects more of the brain but allows more dopamine reuptake bleed-through. It's really not the same. Ritalin is bad, yes, but if you're going to do a segment like this do adderall and dexedrine. They are actualy made of speed (amphetamine isotopes/salts). Desoxyn is actually made of d-methamphetamine.
Even still, they're useful in the real world. (I'm seriously ADD)

Sure they are drugs used for people with parkinsonisms, but they'd sure pump a ton of synthetic dopamine (carboxylated to cross the BBB,decarboxylated into active dopamine in the brain, hence need for carbidopa to prevent peripheral decarboxylation)

i take time release stuff, lasts all day. but i get anxiety and down when i take it(when its working). i feel great when it wears off and on the weekends when i don't take it. I can't imagine abusing it. My guess is its similar to cocaine but its effects aren't as euphoric and intoxicating but just as stimulating.
