Without been able to judge the content of these debates for obvious reasons... seems like it's just a humorously geeky niche to outsiders. Personally, I think succinctness is a more important quality than verbosity. They should get normal human judges in - if you talk to fast, beyond the ability of others to comprehend, then too bad - you're not actually making a point, so much as you are making a garbled sound.

It pains me to see the way people are doing policy debate. THIS IS NOT DEBATE, PEOPLE. THIS IS TALKING SO FAST NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND YOU.

One of the most important elements of policy debate SHOULD BE speaking so that the judges can understand you, and learning to actually speak well. These people are just throwing a ton of arguments out there without any speaking appeal.

Sure, they can talk hella fast, but that shouldn't be the point. Learn to debate like the NCFCA, that's better for you.

@badfish0 I'm in debate and im your average run of the mill idgaf kinda kid. But this class lets you learn so much even if you're not good at it. You shorthand your notes from the flow, and reading aloud is so much better. Policy debate is what a lot of shool these days are doing. And since when was being a 'nerd' a bad thing. Wouldn't you rather be known ot be smart rather than dumb?

@badfish0 most policy debaters don't go out into the real world to advocate public policy action speaking this quickly. But the research intensity of this particular activity takes you a long way. Because you have to prepare so many of the arguments that people are going to through at you so quickly it forces you to structure your arguments in such a way that you can counter what most people have to say against you. It's amazing advocacy training.
