To paraphrase Nero Caesar: "What a great artist the world as lost". May Madame Piaf live forever. It is she, whom we have lost. Thank God that her songs live on for posterity to enjoy.
It sounds much more meaningful in French, I'd rather listen to it in a completely different language I don't understand just to feel her love and pain.
"hymn miłości" - to piosenka pomnik w repertuarze Piaf!

OMG how can you compare almost a noone like Judy Garland with Edith Piaf and by the way that's just a bad TV. Actually who is oftenly comparing those two anyway ??? Please the owner of this video remove your statements they are by far near to being true !
actually, Edith piaf was one of the greatest french singers in history. for some one to compare her to Judy Garland is true. they ware both amazing singers. pf course everyone is entitled to thier own opinions.
She could sing passionately in english, if you listen to her singing heaven have mercy in english it's so powerful. I think that was alot later on though, it's something she needed practice at. To be able to reach people beyong the confines of language was something very important to her she once said
the truth is that I started crying while watching the movie towards the end. I guess I was too taken with all the action, then I started to feel her pain and her pasion. Great movie, amazing voice and of course some life she lived!"
It is beautiful, the song, but why was the photograpy so strange? It makes her look warped in a strange way, just a VERY bad camera angle. It's too bad they messed it up so badly, so unflattering.
It is not complete... do you have the complete song in English? I'd like to understand the meaning of the song. My regret I didn't get to live in her time.
In the complete video, first she sings it in french and then continues with this reprise in English. This is all of the english version. She did record an audio version of the complete song in english but if you really want to understand the song, translate the french version. Changes had to be made when translating it into english and not necessarily for the better. The words "Hymn to love" arent even in the french version. Its just the title.Take care- Dennis
It was simple and romantic in the 30's, but it also was a chaotic time. I admire your courage but I'd rather live right now, because I somehow learned to survive here. I probably would be devastated in the 30's, with no youtube and mp3's, no laser technology and MRI's...I just wouldn't survive!
It's important to get back to nature every now and then. Helps to cope with sudden change of things. I'm not against technology progress, in fact I keep up with it yet we never should forget mother nature and the simplicity of life. It teaches us to be thankful for what you have now. In the 30s wonderful things happens too. One thing for sure, someone very special was born. If I can I would kiss God for that.
A very beautiful comment. God I wish there were more people who thought like this. There would certainly be less war and hatred in this beautiful world of ours.
You are a small, small person. Pity you can't find the true beauty. Do yourself (and your addled brain) a favor and watch the story of her life, La Vie En Rose.
BigDaddy1968's comments are reflective of the typical right-wing religious nut jobs these days. The Great Piaf was brilliant beyond ANY "christian" music contemporary or otherwise. What do you mean "gotten saved." She was deeply devoted to God and prayed to Jesus constantly. She was also a kind person, though not born to respectability -- which is certainly not her fault.
But thanks for the unbelievably comic idea of the great Piaf singing the insipid repertory of Contemporary "Christian" music!
@DirkVA , You say she was a kind person, but after watching the film made about her, La Vie En Rose, she wasen't portrayed as a nice person, but quite a rude and nasty person to mostly who worked for her.
@pitbull466 What does it matter if she was hard at times her singing was great. I like to see anyone live through what she did and not be hardened if she even was. She will always be the sweet little sparrow to me singing to my soul.
First of all she was a devout christian and secondly she died before the music blight called CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN was ever concocted by born again trash bands. but other than that...

Used to have several Paif records including one from the LP era that was
entirely in English.
In any language, Piaf was both wonderful and unique. Saw her live on the
Ed Sullivan show when I was a kid.
She said adieu too soon.
Tnx 4 the great post.
