There is resonator box (or chamber, if you like). It's just very small compared to Western instruments. The other fact is, the cover is made of leather which makes sound louder (the thinner the cover, the louder the sound) than any wooden cover would.

@SilencingSin There is a resonation chamber, but it's quite small. It's the bottom end of the stick, (which rests on the leg. The steel strings go over the bridge, which rests on a tight drum head of snake skin.

@WCqq The erhu was actually created by northern nomads, the 系族 (xizu), hence it being called er "hu". It was later borrowed by the Chinese during the Song dynasty.

You seem to be hitting some notes a bit high and to low, I could be wrong, it could be the recording device.

You also do not seem comfortable there, you may want to find comfort in your sitting and a stable surface in order to hit notes properly with a stringed instrument.
