High School days here in SoCal 1974, The best music, Dave Mason, Neil Young , then theres Rush- seen them 16 times- just last year. Emerson Lake and Palmer, Deep Purple,Blue Oyster Cult and on and on - DAMMMM I miss those times smokin Pot and chillin with my buds in the foothills of San Fernando Valley.
Reminds me of my married days back in the late 70's -- she was a big fan up in Minnesota -- but I still like it anyway. The whole studio album is pretty good if you have a taste for it.
A few years back, in Star Meadows, Montana, we had to evacuate after midnight with 30 goats, llamas, chickens, turkeys, etc, during the horrific Brush Creek fire. friends dropped everything to come up with livestock tailors to save our farm. This is our song.
I'd pay high dollar to hear them play the old tunes :-) The Caldwell's may be gone, but there's no reason to downplay good musicians keeping the fire alive. Thanks for posting.
Aw man were stoked our band STONEBREED is opening for the MARSHALL TUCKER BAND on 5/28/11 at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills Ca, we even have $25.00 discount tickets at our myspace and facebook pages! Anyone near the LA area gonna check out this show?
its fun to know that they partied with the Montgomery's in South Carolina, i have seen the photos and heard the stories. its an unbelievable point of musical history
I heard them in '73 at the Majestic Theater in Dallas when they opened for Trapeze. We didn't who else was on the ticket and thought we heard them introduced them as the Marching Taco Band. To that point in my musical ascention, the only flute=rock was Jethro Tull. They drew an encore. I love them to this day....
Doug do it the original way or hang it up. This is just plain sorry. Where is your dignity? You have to know this sounds like shit. Toy must be rolling over in his grave.
@armedandready72 ...I have agree with ya...I saw them with Charlie and Wet Willie in 76-77 at the Capitol Center in Maryland...this version pales badly to the original I heard at the best concert I have ever been to...the Caldwells were the heart and without them ...well you hear it
I have been following the MTB since about 1992 and I have seen them live more times then i can count. Doug and myself are good friends and this is a harder rocking line up and Doug and Jerry wanted to use all of their talent. They tryed to jazz and jam it up to make it apeal to today's crows
I hate when they sing it different then the original version. Don't change it damnit! You had it right the first time Doug. Don't second guess yourself. This is pitiful when compared to the original. Sounds like a Vegas lounge lizard now.
I agree. It's gone from a simple, beautiful song to an overdone, trying too hard without making it second rate junk. Oh, and I LOVE MTB, but not this.
Well if they played the exact same song the same way their whole lives, they would stop playing music. No musicians can play the exact same thing for very long.
@snoopyflick I gotta disagree. The music is for the fans. Do it the way they want it no matter how sick of it you get. They had it right the first time. They sound horrible now. Jerry's flute is the only thing that sounds right. The rest sucks. I saw em in Virgina about 6 years ago and I walked out it was so bad. Such a shame. I grew up on Tucker and this is just an abomination of what was once great music. It's time for them to hang it up. Not the same without Toy anyway.
LOVE this song and MANY others!! The Marshall Tucker Band ROCKS!! I don't care what anybody says..I've LOVED this band since I heard them as a child and will always love & enjoy their music!! Long live the TRUE musicians who write their OWN songs!! Unlike today's BubbleGum CRAP!! ;)
I really loved MTB, but sorry , it's time to hang it up. Doug Grey never was a really great singer and he has just gotten worse over the years. Let's face the life went out of this band after Toy, Tommy and George were gone, in fact it really started when Tommy died. I think Tommy's death took the life out of Toy and thus the band. Without a doubt they were one of the great southern rock bands of their time.
what the hell you say boy . . . . I just listened to the original with its 282,000 hits and then this one with its 17,000 hits and this is better music . . . it's what we hear on radio here in Dallas . . . .purists are almost always anal . . . . let it go . . . . . . long live hybridization and progress and long live the Marshall Tucker Band
I suppose I have to admit your right about my being anal when it comes to music. I do appreciate that you enjoy MTB, they really did make some good music and if it brings you enjoyment then it's a good thing.
In his prime there was no better singer than Doug Gray, but he is not longer in his prime. Seems like he's lost his fire without Toy and Tommy and George.
