  • I love Adam sandler!!!

  • i think that car crash is symbol of him 'freaking out' and harmonium is the love which go in hand in hand in this movie

  • @tldevilsh thats a cool way to look at it

  • Eagan sure has to take a lot of shit from ungrateful people ehrgfhhh life...

  • adam sandler should stick to movies like these instead of doing shit like jack & jill.

  • wth? there are people that enjoyed this movie? Okay!?...... *slowly walks away*

  • @7255202 too crazy for you? maybe you would enjoy something more along the lines of Mall Cop or Titanic

  • no parts 7 or thereafter!!!!!!

  • I hated this movie. Its well put together, but in the midst of being "art" it lost the most important thing in making a movie; getting the viewer involved. Compelling the viewer to want to know what happens next.

This is art without a soul or heart.

  • @sapnyosentry WHAT are you talking about? Did you even see this movie? Maybe you're talking about the latest Jarmusch? I gotta say I was pretty skeptical when I read "a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler". And then I put it on and BOOM! The car flips, they deliver the harmonica and it's all so twisted. And the last thing I am is bored - I WANNA SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

  • @misztong

Well for me, the symbolism was SHOVED down your throat to make the character deeper. I never connected with Barry, and his journey seemed rather trite. By trite, I mean it felt like the movie had no purpose. The ending had a *so what* effect on me.

I liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind WAY WAY WAY more. I think it did a better job with characterization and symbolism. The ending also had a bigger impact on me, as I actually was able to connect with Joel. He felt human.

  • @sapnyosentry I was commenting on your "the film lacks the ability to get the viewer involved in it" regard. I appreciate how Anderson was able to build tensions in the film and the visual side knocked me out. About the contents, the plot and the characters - look, I'm not gonna try to change your mind. If the film didn't convince you, I won't either.

  • @misztong

Yeah, I was mostly speaking from my POV when I said the viewer. I know I'm not alone thinking this film is uninteresting. Some people love Barry and the symbolism used throughout the film regarding him, I thought it was pretentious and artsy for the sake of being artsy as I felt NOTHING whatsoever towards the character of Barry. He could have died or gotten married, the effect would have been the same on me That lack of connection between me, the viewer, and Barry was my biggest gripe

  • This place just feels like Simi Valley to me, same light.

  • weird & cool movie!

  • CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT THE MEANING IS BEHIND THE CAR CRASH AND THE PIANO? it never gets explained through the whole movie.

  • Comment removed

  • @samdiego Yes, it's in the title. The film is called "Punch-Drunk Love." He is Punch Drunk because of all the strange events that happen to him.

  • @samdiego PT Anderson has stated he just used it as a mechanism to bring the audience in more, to basically grab their attention right off the bat.

  • @samdiego well I believe the piano represents barrys heart or emotions,it turns up more or less the same time as lena? the girl in the movie. He must learn to use his heart and his emotions to connect with her.its broke when he finds it but he fixs it and plays with it carefully cause hes emotionaly unsure, insecure.theres a lot of other symbols in this movie too its quite deep.more than just wierd for wierds sake,

  • @samdiego just as an added thought as I watched this clip again The sign above barry is echart body repair. obviously a car repair centre. but ech"hart" as in" heart" and the piano is situated below this ,so it def represents his heart or emotions.and also andthe words body repair...we later see barry trying to fix the piano, his heart, and getting the nerve up to reach out to lena.this movie has a lot of hidden easter eggs like this..

  • @samdiego love shows up like a car crash.

  • one of my favorite movies

  • This movie is like what would happen if Todd Solondz directed "The Waterboy."

  • this movie is perfect

  • he really should do more movies that are written by 1st class directors

  • adam making lousy movies nowadays

  • @Huero082886 Don't blame Adam Sandler. Its not like the HE made the movie.

  • what an amazing movie.

  • sandlers funniest role

  • But I must say that it's good to see Adam in something more abstract.

  • This movie is confusing - I assume it'll make sense after I've watched all of it but I've never even heard of this movie before.

  • I don't get it...

  • This movie is genius.

  • This is the best Adam Sandler movie..

  • who's this actress ?? she's pretty

  • This movie was so fuckin weird.

  • They're meeting is definitely one of the sweetest, strangest meetings in cinema :)

  • An Adam Sandler movie I haven't seen before. It's going on my "movies sandler" playlist. Think I'm more of a "Wedding Singer" and "Zohan" kind of guy, though.

  • Sooo... Does anybody want to talk about their interpretation of what the car scene means?

  • @aaallleeexxx62 I think it's symbolic of how sandler's love interest is thrust upon him chaotically without his consent, and how he knows nothing about love like he knows nothing about making music but he learns over time because he is interested in it. that being said i think that's a bit simplistic who am i to say one way or the other?

  • @aaallleeexxx62 im as confused as you are haha this movies fucked mann!

  • does everyone know this is loosely based on a true story

  • Why Adam, why after proving that you can act do you return to your normal shtick. I guess he wants to make more money, but I would rather have the respect of the acting and creative community. Here's hoping for another great Sandler movie.

  • @AshCosgrove because is a humble person and he doesn't take himself too seriously...

  • Thanks for uploading. One of my favorite movies.

  • Also, further proof that Emily Watson is fantastic!

  • In my opinion, this is Adam Sandler's only noteworthy performance other than 50 First Dates, and even that one wasn't unbelievable.

He should definitely do more indies.

  • @starbeastrave FUNNY PEOPLE IS HIS GREATEST PERFORMANCE EVER GENUINELY MOVING AND OSCAR WORTHY

  • @theunusualsuspectstv : No, it's another Judd Appatow movie with Seth Rogen, except this time they added Adam Sandler and Leslie Mann. Another endless slew of sex and pot jokes covered up by the story of a dying man. I take it your the kind of movie-goer who watches a movie that just references pop-culture, internet memes, or likes movies just for special effects. Oh, and just so you know; Oscar performances are those who provide truly quotable movies instead of punchline after punchline.

  • @starbeastrave have you seen the film? and i truely believe adam sandler was better than some oscar nominees this year like morgan freeman, jeremy renner they were nbo way near as good as him. and whoever classes themselves as a "moviegoer" is a nerd. sorry

  • @theunusualsuspectstv

Right. Adam Sandler is so deep because he didn't have Rob Schneider jump out and say "You can do it!" in the movie. BTW: I never made a comparison between him and any other actor, you did it to "subtly" say that you obviously didn't agree with the Oscars (boo hoo), so who's the real nerd? Also, when did movie-goer become a nerd term? I guess proper terminology is offensive to some people, who knew?

  • @starbeastrave ahah i love that you think you are smart! if you have any idea of how to act and to tell a good performance from another then you would know adam sandler was very good in funny people but who gives a crap about a bias opinion, maybe open your mind a little and consider that adam sandler might be able to act very well.

  • Anderson and Sandler should work together more often.

  • Adam Sandler, notwithstanding his goofall persona, is quite good in this movie.

  • this is why PT Anderson is special.

he's made the sort of ensembled Robert Altman-esque with Boogie Nights and perfected it with Magnolia. he's now known as the new Altman. the guy who makes great ensembled cast films.

then he suddenly cast Adam Sandler in a lead of a 90 minute romantic comedy. what we got in return ws one of the weirdest, but funniest romantic comedy in years with a damn good musical score plus hypnotic look. it might not be his best, but it's a damn good film

  • @godfatherofwiseguys you are perfectly right. What is great about a PTA is a fact that he know how to write the story and how to film it... his shooting- screepts and the whay he is writing them is a finished film itself before he even shoot it... Im trying to write it the same way as he does and when I try ... I realise why it takes so much time to write a good script

  • @godfatherofwiseguys Then he comes back 5 years later with a One man show/character study in ¨There will be blood¨... The new altman? More like the New Kubrick lol, He´s up there with the best if you ask me.

  • @DonRMB Absolutelty! he comes back with a legendary film. the greatest of the last decade. with scenes that is so out of his style, but is still so well made. this guy is operating on another level!

i agree, the new Kubrick. in terms of how he challenges the art form of cinema, and what he's doing with it.. heck, i'd even say that he is his own thing. and someday, great filmmakers will be dubbed the next PTA.. this man is DEFINITELY the best right now!

  • Adam Sandler didn't get enough credit for this performance.

  • @chuobio agreed one of his best

  • @chuobio

I completely agree. Who knew he had such serious acting chops.

  • i really love Punch-Drunk Love

Paul Thomas Anderson is a genius!!

  • I agree, the soundtrack is what i find awesome, it makes you feel what Barry feels IMO, wierd?!

  • @Wardimus83

In someways, it's the same with There Will Be Blood.

  • this movie proved adam sandler is one of the best!

  • I love this movie its one of my favorite ever, I've scene it like a hundred times

  • alright - now THIS is how it was meant to be seen. Roll it. ahha

  • thank u for posting this....

  • My borther hates it for the fact it wasn't the waterboy or anger management......i love this movie, my borther hates it !!

  • I love it when people watch this movie expecting to see the Waterboy and they just end up hating it. It cracks me up.

This movie and Funny People are Sandler's best by far.

  • I hated the waterboy, so I'm hoping I'll like this.

  • @locochica4788 what was wrong with the waterboy?

  • oh, my comment was in response to PEPSIRUNNER's

  • Reign over me is awsome too!

  • this movie so great..seen it like 17 times

  • Comment removed

  • i dont get it is it suppose to be funny or some kind of a kinky psycho movie thing i dont know :D

  • It's Eraserhead in colour.

  • muito legal esse filme

  • I love this movie !!! looks very Cohen style to me...

  • this fil really grows on you. the story of a schizophrenic who falls in love and is saved by it. and that is just one reading. pta's the man.

  • I don't think he's schizo, I think he's socially anxious.

If he were schizo, he wouldn't have his own business. ;-)

  • There are subtle hints, the flipping of the car may be a full blown hallucination the colors may be what he sees while he is falling in love. A cool form of Synesthesia. Just a reading though. The blonde brothers are real and take advantage of his paranoia.

  • That's one way to possibly look at it! :-) Thanks for opening my mind a little more, romansibeles.

  • This movie makes me feel strange, but it kicks ass so far!

Thanks for the upload you rule!!

  • This film got the lowest reception of the year

  • ok, what the crap is with the SUV that just flips over there at the beginning?? It's never explained or mentioned again, and Sandler does nothing about it, just flinches. He should be calling 911 or running out to see if anyone's hurt, because that is an incredibly bad (and incredibly weird--what did they hit?) accident that could result in death for multiple people. It's like it's just there to confuse you, but this isn't a Will Ferrell movie where that could just be randomly funny.

  • I read it as being symbolic of the cataclysmic event that is about to occur for his character. (And it's a movie, a slightly surrealist one at that.)

  • Does everything always have to make sense?

    No.

  • Would he have made the 911 call before or after the cab leaves the harmonium in he middle of the street?

  • who else got this movie on their

top five films cuz I know I do

  • An ok movie. Worth a watch.

  • Thanks for the post. PTA is a genius!

  • cheers!

  • Man this was such a great movie. I think it was Roeper or maybe Ebert who said had this movie come out any other year than 2002 Sandler could have gotten an Oscar nomination, but 2002 had one of the greatest amounts of Oscar worthy leading male perfomances that he had to contend with being in the top ten list.

  • Yeah. Russell Crowe won that year and he deserved it, but critics ALWAYS look past Sandler.

  • ahh harmonium makes me happy

  • yeah this whole movie is shot in the san fernando valley. i'm from woodland hills thats where most of the movie was shot, also i know the location of the 99 cent store in the movie its straight on ventura blvd.really funny i go there sometimes haha paul thomas anderson is a genius

  • How is this on youtube?

  • i uploaded it

  • i guess the owners don't care or they don't realize it's on here.

  • when i go to youtube/movies and type this movie in, it takes me to this so i guess u are in the clear!

  • @TheStormcrow2 Well this isn't punch drunk love so I don't see why they'd care. This is a shitty, full screen squeezed upload that destroys a masterpiece. Go get the bluray.

  • @pdldude Dude, ur funny. "I uploaded it"... so simple, yet true... perhaps I'm easily amused!

  • @pdldude Great answer Lmfao!

  • Hey, Thank you for uploaded the movie. Can you upload more movies?

  • @TheMisssahar89 Its hard to find a movie that the copyright owners don't care if you post on youtube.

  • @TheStormcrow2 I remember an interview with the director of this film (Paul Thomas Anderson) and he said that the internet is a means no true filmmaker should ignore.

  • @TheStormcrow2 You seriously asking that question?

  • because

  • Why is there no credits in the first scene?

  • Not every film has to have opening credits....

  • Brilliant film! Definitely my favorite of all time. It is an artistic film that really makes you think more about the main character Barry. The music score is great to have as well. Jon Brion is so calming yet chaotic. I also found the location of Barry's plunger building on Google Maps. Type in: 10101 Canoga Ave

Chatsworth, CA 91311. It's Eckhart Auto Body. Enjoy!

  • You should check out Harry Nilson's music too. He wrote the music for "Popeye" with Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall, and Brion's score for PDL is largely based off of Nilson's music in that film.

  • I just made a Harry Nilson station on Pandora. Very good stuff! Thanks!

  • So was that car accident real or was it all in his mind?

    Great post!

  • Haha, thanks for uploading. Adam sandler and PT Anderson make a great team.

  • did he die?

  • Barry reminds me so much of myself.

  • This should have been nominated for Best Original Screenplay. The movie has just a great script plus it is just so creative!

  • Don't forget Best Cinematography and Best Director. :P

  • Adam Sandler got the nomination at the Golden Globe, too bad it wasn't an Oscar nomination. I was very impressed with him in this movie. He did such a terrific job.

  • he's not a freak, he's a just a little uncomfortable and nervous around people. This is realistic as a lot of people have these issues...

  • Indeed, especially in this age with socialising is pretty much a thing in the past. With MP3 players, iPods, computers.. nobody talks any more in public. We know strangers on the internet better than our own neighbours.

..Then we wonder why people have trouble 'fitting in' to society.

  • @wankmyhorseplz yes, the bars and restaurants of the land stand eerily silent - a spectral reminder of a long-forgotten age

  • amazing film

  • Ms. Watson had some swagger in her walk. I would look, too.

  • the first time i watched pdl was on a flight goin back to school from break and im in the middle seat between an old woman and this really cute girl to the right. from the way my body jolted both car crashes in PDL made me seem mad!

  • that car accident is like Adam Sandler's personality in this movie.

  • Thanks for the PDL.

  • P.T. Anderson is the director of tomorrow. A true modern master. Thanks for the upload.

  • Thank you so much!! Really made my day.

  • thanks !!!

  • <3 thank you so much. i had this dvd a long time ago and lost it. i need some pdl love.

  • sweet, thanks for the up'

  • no problem.

  • masterpiece. the most underrated film of all time. best film of all time too. i made sure i watched this film on lsd it was so good. that was many years ago but i'm sure i'll never enjoy let alone see a movie as good as this one

  • think what you want and i'll believe what i know :-)

  • i believe this is a small piano

  • It's called a harmonic.

  • PT Andersons best film. And that's saying something...

  • poinntt ? :@

  • is this film good ? plz send message bakk

  • No, I will not.

  • very

  • Apparently the director advises people to turn up the hue on their TVs so the movie looks more vibrant, part of the reason he wears the blue suit throughout. Its meant to create a compliment between the odd script and acting and the vivid colors. I might try it when I get the DVD :P

  • Sandler's best, most nuanced performance. It's really a great film.

  • thanx 4 the post

  • adam sandler is such a great actor... hard to believe it's the same person from waterboy

  • once again thanks for this marvelous movie, everyone i know hates this movie, i love it!!!!!!!!

  • cause cloverfield just came out recently. you have to post movies that have been out for a while cause the dvds dont sell anymore, therefore the creators of the movie dont care cause there not making money off the movie anymore.

  • um, this is a comedy of sorts.

  • are you a retard, lemme guess you're favorite movie is scary movie or waterboy. do you have the humor and mental capacity of a 10 year old

  • Nice blue suit

  • 2 be honest i thought that adam sandlers talent is only comedy this proved me wrong thanks a bunch 4 postin this

  • Much love, thanks so much.
