those people who called you all that stuff cant accept it when people like you throw reality in there face which is what they need! You were giving them legitimate advice and not sugar coating it! If you cant handle that and be mature enough to take that advice then how do u expect to handle it when people say things like that to your face?
Btw , in acting business is there any stability? I mean I don't know how it quite works, but acting is one of my options cause that is what I enjoy doing. :P
@Romansssz Hi! Sorry to say that no, there is no stability for actors at all! That said if acting is what you enjoy then research into acting as a career further :)
Hello! I am a young actor trying to improve my skills. I do believe I have talent and I want to put it to work is there any suggestions for young actors for the age range from 11-12? If you could reply that would be nice thank you!
@muffintop418 Hi :) Thank you for subscribing btw! When you're in your teens it's all about working at your craft and training. Learn the basics because no one will hire you until you do!
You're hilarious hahaha, I swear your direct-ness and realistic views inspire me even more to be an actor because you tell how it is and by the way these type of videos just make my day. I can totally see you as a film director or something like that in the future. I don't know if that's where you're headed but good luck in whatever you do! I'm excited I found you on Youtube! Dope dope dope.
@Jojozaay Hey! Haha, thank you, and I'm really glad you like them. After a few years of casting I might look into producing so thanks for that! Good luck to you too :)
Oh my goodness, these people are pure comedy :') "Crushing my dreams" ....Come on, really? They wouldnt last 5 minutes in the industry with that kind of attitude.
As to some people olivia may seem pessimistic and cruel about acting. But its the truth acting is cruel your not just going to get a audition like that. And if you dare confront me with any child breakthrough actor comments i will seriously slit your throat.
@straightfromschool Dear Olivia, Hi my names roop, im about 5`3 and 11 years old i want to be a actor. if i wear a turban on my head and have a small lisp when i say "s".Does that affect my chances of becoming an actor. Please Reply!!!!!!!!!
One of the things that I really like about u is that you are honest and straight up.that being said what do you feel about proscout auditions are they good or a scam?
@mmhstalker23 Thank you, I appreciate that. Proscout is a very American 'middleman' thing that, should it come to the UK, would probably be shunned and pointed out as a waste of time - which it well may be. But there seems to be a trend of spending huge amounts of money for a slim chance of success in the states. I wouldn't recommend wasting money for something you can do for free!
I just don't understand why people would get that offended and upset over something said in a Youtube video. I'm not an actor or aspiring to be one but I know it's a business full of rejection. The problem is, in this modern world of instant celebrity, ( Jersey Shore, Kim K) people just want to be famous without working for it. Apparently, being honest and straight forward makes you a bad person, LOL
Hi Olivia, I really appreciate your videos. I have a question for you, I would like to send my headshot and cv to a few casting directors that I would like to introduce myself to for future auditions. I do have an agent, but I can't sit and wait for the phone to ring, so I'm very keen auditioning for bigger casting directors. What would be the best method to do this (email them to ask if I can send it, phone call before I send it ? ). Thank you, your doing a great job !!!.
@SmileTeesha Hey! Good stuff! In Spotlight Contacts sometimes the CD listings indicate whether they prefer email or post. If nothing is indicated, mail is better than email. I wouldn't recommend phoning as CDs are on their emails constantly and will receive it instantly. Whether they reply or not/whether you are the type of actor they need for a project at the time is a different matter!
Fabulous stuff, Olivia. As you know it's show business. Emphasis on business. It is what it is and there is no simple way to success - which is another item altogether. What is success to one actor means nothing another.
I went to an audition for an aency and they have sent me a contact to be signed with them but they have told us to pay £90 for spotlight website, but now my mum wont let me go with them because she doesnt know if it is a real one because it is asking for money, what should i do?
@Pennyjennings98 Every aspiring professional actor has to pay £88 for Spotlight, because if you are not on Spotlight then you are practically invisible to the casting world, so I don't think this is a scam. What is the name of the agency?
@Pennyjennings98 Hi Penny, Alice is right, it is industry standard to pay the Spotlight fee. It is unlikely to be a scam. Scams usually ask for MUCH larger sums of money, and this fee isn't going to the agency, it's a standard fee to Spotlight. Visit Spotlight . com as they'll have all the details on there for you to see for yourself :)
'I auditioned for this series. Queued for four hours to only..' I'm sure that was my comment. So glad you didn't say anything about it cause it feels like a really stupid and moany thing to say now.
@TinselFairy Yes I think it was yours! I cut it out because the video would've been too long - I just said that sometimes you do get put with bad actors or a group that could potentially reflect badly on you, but a casting team will always see some good things in individuals. By that I mean, if you were what they were looking for, they would have seen you again, regardless of the annoying girls you may have been put with originally. :)
Negative commenters clearly aren't acquainted with the frequent rejection you get in this industry. Olivia, you provide a wonderful resource and insight for serious aspiring young actors. I feel sorry for those that can't accept the reality you present so very kindly, please don't change your videos to suit a minority of disillusioned viewers - you're not pessimistic in the slightest!
In explaining the harsh realities of the film/television/theatre industry you are making many uninformed people realise just how hard it is. To them it might feel like you're crushing their dreams but the reality is that you are actually doing them a favor in warning them. I really didn't realise you get so many harsh comments. I can see you really don't take them to heart which is good because although they don't realise it at the time you are doing them a huge favor. Keep up the awesome Olivia
I dont know if you've got a favourite, but what's a monologue you've come across and really really liked, or maybe a scene from a movie. I'm just doing this thing where i practice and perfect as many monologues as possible i thought you might know a good one
@DoTheBrando I love that you have been commenting a lot on my videos recently, and everytime I click your name to investigate you, you don't have a page! My stalking reaches a dead end right there. It's really fascinating being in the middle of a casting offices isn't it? You really do see quite quickly how 'real' everything is - as an actor, you've either 'got it' or you don't. So are you looking to become a casting director then?
Ignore the comments! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it helps if they can actually type legible English! I watch your videos for their insight, their advice and their honesty. People should be thankful for someone being willing to spend time giving thoughtful, true advice. Not going into the right industry if you can't take criticism! Thank you for the videos - I certainly appreciate it :D
Haha. Wow. I had to go back and pause so I finish reading the 2:58 comment. And people like this think they can actually be taken seriously. Yeah, I didn't realize you were getting the negative comments either, but those are hilarious!
@traicetrak Yes that's one of my fave ones! There were a few more but I didn't have time really to get them all in. To be honest, most of the posters are aged 12 - 15 or something so don't really understand the points I'm trying to make (in that particular video anyway). Hope you're well Tracie! :)
i think miley cyrus is not that talented in acting! maybe i shouldn't say that, because i'm not good in acting too, but when i saw hannah montana she tried to be funny and she's defenetly not funny!! (that's what i think)
I didn't realize you had so many viewers leaving negative comments whom want to make it big in the entertainment industry and just can't take constructive criticism.
I watch because you are beautiful, smart, well spoken (especially love how you talk) and your eyes are just charming and put me into a trance when I look at them. That's why I was disappointed you didn't dress up more or do your nails for your audition because you can look absolutely fabulous and u should've been Hermione Granger!
those people who called you all that stuff cant accept it when people like you throw reality in there face which is what they need! You were giving them legitimate advice and not sugar coating it! If you cant handle that and be mature enough to take that advice then how do u expect to handle it when people say things like that to your face?
