It's also of just a few games I can claim i've never lost at, so I have a strong bias towards it. Also, it's pretty awesome in general.

Okay, that is an impressive way to implement multiplayer in a shmup. Why couldn't we get this kind of game nowadays?

I dunno, I guess the concept is illusive to players. Or many they just all have strange goddamn names.

Anyway a PS2 sequel came out that sold a few hundred copies. I think it's pretty excellent but not really at the level of the original myself.

Twinkle Star Sprites, one of my favorite game and one of the three competitive shooters I can name offhand.

The others being Kingdom Grand Prix and Change air blade, pretty much the definition of a niche genre.
