My Grandpa just recently passed away, he used to work with Stompin Tom in Tillsonburg. Seeing him on TV made my grandpa soo happy. :) He always remembered him singing and playing guitar for everyone while they were on breaks.
Worked in Otterville Ontario in the late 90"s, I can relate to this song quite well. I didn't prime though, I just drove the boat.....with a tractor and not a horse!
I used to wear oil skin pants fishing off the coast of NS. I was so tall at 14 years old that we had to glue an extra 6-7 inches to a pair of my dads pants for me to use.
Stompin' Tom is a Canadian treasure for sure. Grew up in Simcoe, ON...did a little work in Vittoria and Delhi...doesn't matter what town it is...still makes your back hurt lol. Used to sing this with my Papa too...great memories. Thanks Stompin' Tom!!
@kirkronic no i agree but i said tillsonburg in general.. likenorthern country, and western country.. the south and east of tilly burg def do have tobacco but, i do not believe that tillsonburg is the main area where most of the tobacco is produced.. should be delhi in the song lol
Always loved this song, "your beds all ready on the bunkhouse floor, if it gets a little chilly you can close the door" haha, cracking me up!!! Saw Tom in Parry Sound Ont. at the Bobby Orr community Centre, summer 1975, would love to him again.
this is my favorite song by him. its the song my dad and i always sing together when on a roadtrip. or just whenever we hear it. It brings back many many fond memories of trips to PEI when I was little. thanks for uploading :)
I just went to his concert in Saint John on Saturday night. The second Saturday in August has been declared Stompin' Tom day in Saint John. He;s such a great performer. He really knows how to work the audience. When people shouted to him he'd coolly answer back like he does here. Love Stompin' Tom haha.
hahaha I'm not sure I'll have to ask lollllll I wanted to go to make the xtra money but my parents wouldn't let me
and what's this about a boat hahahaha the Nith River never had boats lolllllllllllll must have been the Thames river hahaha The Mighty Nith he is fun I seen him in Hamilton too that is where I live now..I can still see those little green and red houses in the fields lol
The boat is not the machine. The boat was exactly that , a long narrow boat pulled by horses that tobacco leaves were laid in. In later years the priming machine replaced the boats and horses. You sat and piled leaves in baskets in front of you. The term boatdriver then referred to the guy who pulled the baskets on a wagon up to the kilnyard. Gasoline cleans the tar best. Lord my back aches , I primed in the Simcoe / Vanessa / Delhi area!
:p lolllllllllll I grew up in Plattsville and I remember that wasTHE summer job hahaha I never did it ...just smoked the cigarettes hahaha alot of my friends went there though
He's a great man!! I've met him many times and he's almost like family to me! I still remember him playing Wildwood Flower to me on his knee:) Good Times

I've been to a lot of concerts in my day. Many in college and a ton for a nice weekend away as I got older.
Best concert ever was 1991 Canada day at Molson Park with the Tragically Hip.
That was, until I went to see STC in my hometown. Mid-90s and nothing has come close.
Everyone from the 6 year olds to the 86 year olds were up and clapping and stomping - pretty much the entire concert. It was truly amazing.
