I don't mind dishwashing, because it's a job that has to be done. Working with idiots who are aggressive and frustrated is what I mind. Such people will make any job unbearable.
i wash dishes professionally for minimum wage at the 3rd largest retirement home in the world. i love it, honestly the only down side for me is picking up dishes and pots/pans that come out of the machine at 180f degrees without any gloves, but you get used to it.
we serve average 300 people a night, 3 courses and of course lots of coffee. our hours are from 4pm to around 8 though.
My friends all used to work at some sort of restaurant or bar and grill place. They either held the "position" of bus-boy or diswasher. They hated EVERY moment of it. Not so much, because it was tedious and sometimes difficult, but the serious A-hole managers, owner, etc. No wonder the burn-out rate is so high.
Kudos to you 42317 for trying and sticking with it as long as you can.
dude, that story sounded just like me, i worked in a resturant washing dishes and HATED IT!!!! and i was new and slow at times, managers would always say"can u go a little bit faster"...so the winter came and they cut my hours down to 1 day a week, and i held on and looked for another job, and thank the good lord i found my favorite job of all time, i hope i never have to wash dishes ever again. nice story
Sounds like my old job, and I initially applied to just make sandwiches! My bosses were complete assholes, too.
I like my new job much more; I'm still broke as a joke, but I get great hours and the people are a joy to work with... most of the time. And, man, the chicks are hot hot hot!
Started this week. went from 4pm-1am washing dishes and putting plastic pics in a sanitizing dishwasher thing.
fuck me. i had -100 energy by the time restaurant closed (11 pm) and the store cleanup is the worst.
but atleast imma get paid.

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

@42317 there should be a union for dishwashers because pretty much no job out there now has no union benefits or guaranteed job status
