  • Very gracful, but those the flies taking off at the beginning look completely retarded

  • very nice video my dear friend.

  • I love the music in this video , Modis Operandi , by Technician , it gives me chills !

  • @theeAlphaOne I'm happy you enjoyed my music as well as the vid - thanks a bunch for the view and kind words! =)

  • Wow, didn't know butterflies glide so much during flight.

  • @123eldest Indeed some species do glde a LOT (especially the larger ones) while others are under constant powered flight and don't stop flapping at all until they land... Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • Super !

  • Thanks! =)

  • Nice shots, anoying music!

  • I guess my music can't please everyone - glad you liked the video portion anyway! Thanks for stopping by =)

  • This looks like it was made in 1983

  • I WISH I had this camera back then... all those cool shots missed...

  • beauty right before our eyes, brought alive by your excellent video techniques! Thks for sharing!

  • Glad you enjoyed! Thanks a bunch for watching! =)

  • fuck you ad at the begening i will skip you after these five seconds!

  • Once in a while I get a good one that I actually watch but mostly they are annoying. I'm glad they let us skip and minimize most of them!

  • YEP, THAT was Great!!!

  • Who would have thought watching bugs fly could be so much fun! =)

  • very nice , love the slow motion :)

  • They do seem to be a lot more interesting and graceful inslow motion :-) Thanks for watching!

  • That was amazing :D :D nice slow mo !

  • Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed the show! :-)

  • Weird music

  • Luv it!

  • Glad you enjoyed - thanks so much for watching! =)

  • Real wonderful.

  • Thanks so much for stopping by! :-)

  • the butterfly is like a king of the flying insects!

  • For all the random fluttering they seem to do at realtime speed, they are pretty amazing acrobats when slowed down enough to see what they are really doing :-) Dragonflies are even more amazing, and I hope to get some good slow motion footage of them as well :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  • I like this one also.

  • These small, fast-moving critters are really fascinating when you slow them down a bit :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  • Impressive pictures about a part of this world we often do not notice in it's grandeur.

  • Thanks for stopping by - I'm happy you enjoyed the show! :-)

  • wie stark müssen die muskeln der insekten sein dass die so oft die flügeln schlagen

  • Indeed - those muscles are not only strong but have a great deal of control as well - so amazing are these little marvels :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  • @jcmegabyte amazing"

  • Beatiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it

  • Thanks so much! Cheers! =)

  • Taking flight is a wonderful thing...

  • what's the name of this song?

  • This song is "Modus Operandi" from the 'TimeShift" CD by Technician (yours truly). Thanks so much for watching (and listening!) :-)

  • @pattttcocccc nice video.

  • @pattttcocccc nice video!

  • Fascinating! Beautifully done....Bravo!

  • I wish I had better depth of field with this camera, but I guess that's asking a LOT of high-speed video! XD Thanks for watching and the kind words :-)

  • @jcmegabyte I don't understand what you mean. Do you wish you had closer shots? That's the problem with zooming is the distortion of image...So many of your videos are so up close you're spoiled!!This is great, even at this depth.Hey, can I borrow your camera,,,and computer!!??

  • "Depth Of Field" (DOF) can be a little confusing... it means the range of distance from the lens that's in focus. A shallow DOF means that only things which are a certain distance from the lens are in focus. If they move further away or closer they get blurry. A deep DOF is just the opposite; things which are both far and near can be in focus. When shooting extreme macro (close-up) the DOF is usually quite shallow, so it's best if things move sideways instead of towards or away from the lens.

  • I am at a loss for words, great experience ...Absolutely fascinating

  • I'm definitely enjoying the results from this camera - slow motion is very fascinating! Thanks for visiting and the nice comment :-)

  • dude 22:00 is just awesome!

  • That's one of my favorite shots, too.. I only wish the depth of field were a little deeper so the spider didn't go out of focus so quickly :-) Thanks for checking it out!

  • this has got to be the worst music ive ever heard.

  • Really impressive work! I have an EX-F1 myself and haven't been able to capture anything nearly as special...are you using any extra hardware or is that just the standard zoom?

  • I'm using the camera pretty much as it comes out of the box. After these shots were made I designed a gun-stock camera mount ( v=bDLbV7BVyE0 ) which REALLY helped me track fast-moving subjects.

I shot (and threw away) a LOT of footage learning to use the camera, and I still experiment a lot, deleting more "junk" footage than I keep! :-)

  • Really wonderful made video,

    thank you

  • Thank you! I always wondered how butterflies could fly. It had seemed to me that the up stroke would just cancel out the down stroke. Thank you!

  • Thanks for checking this out and the nice comment! It's still amazing to me how well they can maneuver, even when slowed down enough so that we can see it... :-)

  • Really nice video

  • Thanks for checking it out! Cheers =)

  • 0:31 i love how he just knows exactly what he is doing to maintain alt.

  • Their movements and abilities are definitely more interesting when you slow them down a bunch - thanks for stopping by! :-)

  • excellent video Chris!!

  • Thanks so much!! =)

  • 0:33 i like the way she stop swinging the wings to drop a little

  • Skipper butterflies are particularly interesting to film in slow motion because for that intermittent wing stroke behavior. There are some really good examples in my slow motion skippers vid: v=nL4WjJNsi8E

    Thanks for stopping by! :-)

  • That it beautiful Full admiration..)))

  • Thanks for the view and great comment! =)

  • fabulous pictures. I was looking for a colibri flight in fact, there might be some interesting stuff on your channel ; i'll have a look and contact you for authorization in view of borrowing some of you pictures.

  • I have many slow motion and still Colibri images - do have a look at my other channels - HummingBirdChannel and JCMDIStockFootage, and feel free to write to discuss your needs/interests :-)

  • Beautiful experience to behold in slow motion flying insects. Excellent work. Many greetings. 5 *

  • The bugs do indeed put on quite a show when you can slow them down enough to see it! Thanks for watching :-)

  • I've noticed that there is a large field work, to achieve a proper definition of the flight of most bugs. Very interesting, really. Thank you very much.

  • Sweet, and thanks for putting the names of the camcorder. 5/5

  • Thanks for checking it out... The EX-F1 is a great camera and well worth the time and expense to get one :-)

  • thanks!

  • How the hell can you zoom that much. .. My Exilim cant get it sharp when im zooming alot ? What is your set up ? (:

  • Some of these shots are zoomed (a tight aperture, high ISO and fast shutter speed can help some) but a lot of the really close shots are done with the camera literally two to five inches away from the bug! Depth of field is a real issue and many of my shots end-up out of focus, but if you shoot a LOT of footage (which I do) at least some of them come out good. That's the trick - shoot and experiment a lot! :-)

  • Breathtaking awesome.

  • Thanksfor the view and nice comment! :-)

  • the beating of wings of the butterfly is simply fantastic! thnks for watching!! :))

  • They sure are trippy to watch in slow motion! Thanks for stopping by :-)

  • AmaZing!

    Потрясающе!!! Я в Восторге!!!

  • Thanks for watching! :-)

  • This is damn good! 5*

So organic, out of golden sachs, shares and stocks. Plain gold of God.

  • Thanks so much for the view and great comment! Happy holidays =)

  • cool camera you got there

  • It is indeed a great piece of equipment - I'm getting a lot of cool and unexpected shots with it. Thanks for watching! =)

  • This is a beautiful video! You should go to a butterfly garden and do this!

  • I would definitely like to do that but unfortunately the only one near me that I know of happens during the L.A. Museum's annual insect fair when I am busy tending to my exhibit. I'm lucky to even get a bathroom break! :-)

Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

  • wow..its amazing to see em fly around in super slow motion..good selection of music btw...goes well with the clip

  • Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • oh my gosh dude i love all your videos this one is so beautiful like ive said in other comments, i cannot take my eyes of the screen keep it up, take care

  • Amazing how such small flittery critters look so much more fluid and graceful when slowed down - kind of magical and hypnotic =) Thanks for visiting and the great comment!

  • Super video!

  • Thanks again for all your attention and great comments! =)

  • wow simply fantastic! Great job mate!

  • Thanks so much for visiting and the nice comment! :-)

  • Wieder gute Aufnahmen dabei, habe selbst

    jetzt meinen ersten Trailer hochgeladen.

    Der Kolibi-Schwärmer ( mit Musik )

  • Lovely!!

  • Thanks! =)

  • Oh gosh JC!

if air were water, those would be little angel fish. So Beautiful.

I've got to get the music & did visit the web site... really nice ; )

  • Thanks for the great comment!

  • you must have uploaded this as a raw file with little compression cuz the quality is really good. Whats the resolutions like?

  • Thanks for that! I try to keep the processing and compression to a minimum to preserve the quality. As this video shows here, it's gone through two conversions; one from the raw clips to .WMV (upscaled to 1280x720p) (Windows Movie Maker) and then through YouTubes conversion process, which further compresses it. The original 300fps clips are 512x384, and the 600fps shots are 432x192 as they come off of the camera. :-)

  • Amazing video.

  • Thanks so much! =)

  • That was the greatest ex-f1 insect movie I've seen :) Have tried too film something similar, but no success jet :p

  • Thanks for the great comment! It took a LOT of shooting to get these few clips. I think that's the secret - just shoot anything and everything, then spend a ton of time going through all the footage to find the decent shots! :-)

  • Thank You . Simply beautiful!

  • Glad you enjoiyed - thanks for watching! =)

  • i love this!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing footy like it alot

  • Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • ah i want to learn to do this with footage. is it your camera or a program on a computer? how do you do timelapse and slow mo

  • All this slow motion footage was filmed with a high-speed camera (Casio EX-F1, about $800-$1000). Filmed at 300 or 600 frames per second, then played back at the normal 30 fps, things get slowed-down 10x or 20x automatically.

For time lapse, I use different cameras (Canon 5S-is and Canon SX10-is) shooting at 1-2 fps then played back at 30 fps resulting in a 10x - 20x speed-up. :-)

  • ONE OF YOUR BEST ! LOVED THIS !!!

  • ...still getting the hang of this camera.... it's more like hunting than photography - filming fast-moving wildlife is really hard! :-)

  • if you could get more, it'd be great.

My only problem was that the clips weren't as long as i hoped.

  • I've been experimenting with different tracking methods so I can keep the subjects in-frame longer - hopefully, longer clips will result... do stay tuned! :-)

  • one of the far better videos i've seen on youtube

  • Cool - glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching :-)

  • shit looks crazy

  • hi, it's great!!

    How are you?

    kiss paula!

  • Hi Paula - thanks for visiting! Doing great - new camera and lot to shoot. I'll stop by and check out your latest soon. :-)

    Thanks for sharing your work.

  • I do that too - sometimes I just want to hear music while I'm doing other things, but I almost always end-up watching the video too! XD Anyway, glad you are enjoying it :-)

  • amazing and always timed with the music. 5*

  • Thanks, Marylynn! :-)

  • I love how the little fly in the very first video makes this little flip in the air after taking off.

Great vid, some amazing footage =)

  • That was one of my favorites, too. Silly male, crashing into the female, head over heels! Hahahaha XD

  • I was thinking the same thing

    Lillo

  • Thanks so much for watching, and the great comment! =)

  • That was just... wow.

I had no idea that butterflies hovered like birds, kinda coast for a bit, that they don't need to flap all the time.

  • In the short time I've had this camera, I've been amazed to see what's really going on when you slow things down enough to see. Thanks for stopping by :-)

  • I love some of those take offs. It's neat how they can do a 180 to go directly behind. Very cool. Just wish you didn't have ads.

  • Some of them are amazingly maneurverable (like the skippers), while others (the flies for example) are a joke - they bumble around and crash into everything, even each other! XD

This slow motion camera is really letting us see some cool stuff we'd never get to see otherwise. :-)

  • 5*****

    Absolutely fascinating and beautiful.

Thanks very much for this masterpiece, dear Chris.

  • So glad you enjoyed :-) This stuff is very interesting to make, too!

  • Man this looks trippy.the movement of the Moths and Butterflies wings look liquid.Cool song too.

  • Yea - the wings move in ways you can't see otherwise - interesting stuff!

  • Beautiful:)

  • Thanks for watching! :-)

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!! 5 stars!

  • Thanks for checking it out! :-)

  • fascinating... the detail amazes me!

  • They're definitely much different-looking when they're slowed down so you can see them :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  • Interesting..the way the butterfly flap their wings..wonder if it's a language in itself. Or if it is their id. Thank you for this wonderful show !

    Tara

  • The wingbeat pattern is indeed a visual indication of the butterfly's mood, and in some cases, a communication of its intentions. It also appears to be pretty important in the courtship process... Many species won't mate without specific aerial displays, and in some cases, both the male AND female exhibit behaviors which indicate the willingness (or lack thereof ) to mate. Nature is far more complex than most people think, especially the deeper one looks into it! :-)

  • so you recorded this at 300/600 frames per second then? so if you went to 1200 it would have just been blurry?

  • At a faster record frame rate, the movement would appear slower, and the detail not as good due to the smaller frame size (the speed and size being subject to the camera's data processing limits). So, the image would be a lot less clear mostly because the resolution would be less, NOT because the movement was too fast for the camera to see. :-)

  • Your videos are always amazing, true talent here!

    Rick

  • Thanks a bunch, Rick!

  • I'm going to have to try to get one of those cameras.

Slowed down, it shows all the little details missed in normal speed..

    Cracking stuff JC.

    Great sounds by Technician,as always (o;

  • Thanks, Ray! :-) I've been wanting one of these cameras for a long time... Cool toys do indeed make life more interesting! =D
