If what you mean by capitalism is private savings, investment, and trade then no capitalism hasn't failed. If what you mean by capitalism is state banking, military industrial complexes, fiat currencies, state welfare, and a pervasive consumer culture foisted upon a population whose intellects have been blunted by totalitarian public education, then yes capitalism has failed.
State socialism is pure evil born of an infantile mind.
Ron Paul is smart. But one thing, every great & powerful society, since the beginning of our understanding of time, has come to an end. We know Communism, capitalism, or socialism doesn't work. I think it's a combination of all that makes a society last. We need to look to economic structure of countries that have withstood the test of time like great Norway. Think about how they have been able to maintain freedom, peace, harmony, green, morals, and education? Smart people! Lets learn & improve
Capitalism works better than anything else. The only reason the US is collapsing is because it has been adopting socialism for a long time time. Today the US is not capitalist, it is socialist.
If that were the case, then why are socialist countries like Norway never in trouble? The fact is, the greatest power in history "Roman Empire" ate themselves alive die to capitalism. History always repeats itself, and there is a lot to be said by looking to those who have failed, and more so to those who have succeeded. If we were socialist, then there would be free health care, no homeless, etc...What we are is Capitalism with a hint of socialism, while the elite rob us. End Corporate greed

Norway doesn't feel the need to extend their empire, as the US Gov. does and the Romans did.
Do you know how many countries the US Gov has bases in? Do you think this makes us any safer? Do you know how much money it takes to continue occupying other countries?
I'm far from a dude, but it sounds like you could use a chill pill. I have a right to my opinion as you do as well. However, diplomacy does go along way when communicating about politics, as it does for Presidents who negotiate with other countries instead of invading them. Yes, it cost a lot to invade and or set up in other countries, however, getting back to Norway, when have they ever done this? They are fully self contained, with trade not necessary. Smart people who enjoy life and wealth.
"every..society...comes to an end" Not this one. Not so far. Have they figured out the solutions to past failures? Will this society be the one that lasts forever? Yes, and yes.
Look, i'm norwegian.. and I wouldn't exactly say Norway has "withstood the test of time". It wasn't long ago that we were the poorest country in europe. But now we're the 3rd largest oil exporter in the world and our population is only 4 million, so we're bound to end up with some wealth. I don't see any reason why capitalism and the free market "wouldn't work". Corporatism and a central banking system with fiat money..is different. The problem is government corruption really, not the market.

plus this is what I call "backwards socialism". The money is going from the poor to the rich.
