  • does #501 run?

  • Is 7470 a 2-6-2 or an 0-6-0? Also, does this RR haul freight?

  • @indie1361 She's an 0-6-0. She does look alot like a 4-6-2 in some of the shots though. Conway Scenic has been known haul freight every once & awhile. A few years back they hauled a couple power plant generators for the local power plant. There's videos of that here on youtube. Otherwise, they only do the "photo freight" runs for the railfans every year.

  • you this song has NOTHING to do with Conway Scenic...right?

  • @DRGWSD40T Yes, I know. Thanks. :) I just used it in the video because it's a great song, & seemed to fit the video really good. It's a song about Donner pass out here in Northern California.

  • Greatt

  • I think Conway Scenic should purchase some Ohio Central steam, considering that their steam program is gone...

  • Does Conway Scenic own any other steamers other than 7470?

  • There is another steam engine there also, but currently non operational. It's ex-MEC 501, & was recently painted all the way. Plans to get 501 operational again are in the works...

  • @GP9railfan 501 is owned by the 470 club, CSRX has nothing to do with 501, sadly.

  • @GP9railfan Yep. A so called "master mechanic" that used to work on 501 got his fingers into things that shouldn't have been messed with, & she'll probably never run again. Unfortunately, the 470 club put too much faith in that individual. Now she's just a big paperweight. Gonna cost over $500K just to get her to basic running condition if they do. Sad indeed.

  • Very nice video...but the SONG! Never heard it. Its great, as I grew up in Roseville. Spent many a days and nights on Donner. Thank you for refreshing the memories. Look forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks.

  • @zephyerwind Thank you. Glad you like the video. I've been all through Donner, & Roseville, but there are never any trains when I go there. LOL Hopefully next time I'm there I'll be able to get something decent on film. Thanks again for stopping by.

  • Great Video, if i ever win the lottery at some point in my life i'd donate a large sum of money to the Conway Scenic RR. Its just an awesome railroad the scenery is so nice and calm year round!

  • Roseville,Donner Pass-Califorinia

  • Yep. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Soon enough, I will have new vids, from this year.

  • Sounds good!

  • Yeah, my step dad cleared out a bunch along the banking, so I have a clear shot of the whole trestle. Now I need to get a new Tri-pod/find my old one, but a liesence comes first, then a car, then a $5 tri-pod, lol.

  • great video! great song! emd f's are always great to look at

  • @rockinrollfan37 Hey, thanks! If you like F's, I've got a bunch of Maine Eastern RR FL9 cab rides you'd probably like, & a few hi-ball run-by's also.

  • great! I will be sure to check them out

  • @rockinrollfan37 Thanks. Everything is organized in playlist categories on the right side of my channel home page, just below the ad. I appreciate your other comments too. Thanks again. Z.

  • Great video!

  • Thanks a bunch! Glad you like it. Check out my Maine Eastern FL9 videos if you want. I think you'll really like those also. ;)

  • No problem! Already watched a bunch of your videos last night! Check out some of my CSRR videos. I got some of the sister F9's.

  • Yeah, I did the same thing on your channel, but forgot to comment. I'll go back & do that. There's an Amtrak train running through town a few blocks away right now, & I wasn't expecting that. I can hear the horn.

  • 573 is my favorite loco of all time. However I think she was much sexier in her Green Reverse scheme from her MEC days. But she looks good dressed up like a Minuteman too, I was fortunate enough as a kid to get a cab ride in 573 through Crawford's Notch in peak foliage. Still one of the highlights of my life.

  • 573 is my favorite loco as well. That's actually the paint scheme she was delivered in during her early days with MEC. Quite a few of the early Maine Central F3's, & GP7's had the maroon/gold paint scheme. You're one of the luck few if you got a ride in 573. I'm jealous! LOL.

  • Yes sir you are correct. And all I can say is, I'm so glad Conway Scenic at least dithched the Guilford/ST paint she wore at the end of her freight service...

  • @PaisteLover Me too!

  • I had a hard time to find his album. cain't wait for steam in the snow.

  • Rhapsody has it. Just search for "Bob Woods", or, "Don't forget the trains" in the album category. There's a really cool CSRR snow steam train video on BlinkX.

  • i like this song

  • Me too. Bob Woods has alot of really great train songs. A couple of my videos have his songs in them.

  • I hear ya. They should have a couple cars without speakers/sound system for people that just want to listen to the ambiance, & sounds of the rails underneath them.

  • I rode the Notch Train in 2007. That was my first (and hopefully more) time at CS. Like it says on their t-shirts: "The Greatest Place on Earth."

  • dude sweet vid man!!! ive been to that place so many times. mostly when i was younger. and the model train place right up the road called the brass caboose well thats the store part but they have the muesem with all the layouts and an outdoor riding train thing. good vid bro!

  • Hey, Thanks.

  • I can't stand slide shows. Except this one!!!

  • Thanks. I agree. Slide shows are only as good as the pictures, (& music) used in them.

  • This year my wife and I are going to do the northern run that is several hours long. I still want a cab ride in the FP7

  • no, thats kool, great pictures btw lol..cant wait to go up there this fall!

  • nice vid, was that there steam engine doing the notch run? i thought they didnt you it except for the hour and hour and 3 quarter trips.

  • Thanks. Yes, that was 7470 in this video.

  • yes, but was this the notch train run?

  • That was the Bartlet train in the winter scenes. My friends took all those photos, so I'm not sure which pictures that you're referring to exactly.

  • nevermind, i realized that that first bridge is in both the notch and barlett run. I thought I saw 7470 doing a notch run...Thanks

  • No problem. Not all the photos were taken in the same time periods. Some are from last Winter, & previous Summers.Sorry if I forgot to point that out earlier.

  • beautiful photos of a beautiful country !!

  • I agree! I didn't take them though, I just used them to make this video (with permission). Those are the the White Mountains. You'll never forget them if you've ever been there in person.

  • i think that´s right.

For one who is very far away its good to even see them on video

  • Yes. Try to plan a trip to visit this some day if you can. It's well worth the trip. September is the best time to see the leaves turn colors.

  • well, i don´t know if it ever will happen that i come to visit the USA.

    Only God knows

  • I wish you luck my friend. Let me know if you do go across the big pond. Maybe we could get a chance to shake hands someday.

  • we´ll see. Time will tell. But if it might happen so, i will inform you

  • Click on "Watch in high quality" to hear the song in stereo, & for better image quality.

  • This song has to be about the Southern Pacific, cab ahead's, donner sumit, it must be.

  • I believe your right on that. I figured the song fit this slide show really well, even if it wasn't Donner pass, or SP in the pics. Thanks for the comment.

  • Nice Photos Here Dude! Pretty darn good sildeshow for us!

  • Thanks.

  • i like vid keep up the good work

  • Thanks. I'm glad to hear that. Lots more good stuff on the way!

  • Get rid of their F units? well I hope they keep at least one pair of units, their iconic. But they may need the money to make refinements, but Ive been in their yard and they have 2 U-boats, I don't see why. It may be because U-boats are a bit rare but there's only ONE train to the notch. They may want to do work on their Portland terminal ALCO or Maine central 501

  • What a cool video... I know some of those places, like the Fabyans cut and the Frankenstein cliff trestle.... More, please. ;-)

  • I konw most all places no the line, i live on it, lol.

  • Thanks Dad. More videos on the way, including that Ayers Jct, - Dennysville (Speeder car/AKA "Rusty") video. LOL.

  • Nice! I am glad to see that I am not the only person that uses this song in my videos.

  • great job !

  • Thanks!

  • Great pictures! Does anyone know if they have any plans to get rid of the F units because that's what I have heard but I don't know if it's true.

  • Hey GP40, Thanks for stopping by. Get rid of their F units? Where did you hear that from?? I figured they'd get rid of that broken down U boat first if anything.

  • I read it in the May 2008 issue of Trains magazine. In the article about "covered wagon" cab units they featured the FP9s of the conway scenic railroad. This quote is directly from the article " The Conway Scenic railroad in New hampshire has two ex-VIA FP9s, 6516 and 6505, to power trains through scenic Crawford Notch, though possibly not for long. Conway scenic operations manager Paul Hallet says the preferd unit on the Notch train is ex-L&N U23B 2820".

  • "With the U-boat, the railroad can use just one locomotive, which saves fuel. Since the GE unit has dynamic brakes, it also saves on brake shoe wear. The railroad expects the 2028to power Notch trains in 2008". That is what I read and was disapointed to hear that. The U-boat looks out of place with the train! I have also read things on web sites that claim the railroad has no plans to retire the F units. I guess I'll just have to wait and find out what really happens.

  • Interesting. Thanks for sharing that info. Last I heard, the U23B has a busted prime mover & no longer runs.(???) I haven't seen any new videos of it running here on YT lately either now that I think about it. Who knows. I guess we'll see. One of the FP9's was having mechanical problems last I heard too. I'm not sure which one it was though.

  • HEY I see my house, lol. I always like to see other peoples perspectives on the notch and the valley, like your others, good job!

  • Thanks! I'll let them know that you liked their photos. Your house is in one of the pics? Cool.

  • well, the bridge right behind my house, lol.

  • uuggh winter is comming here soon real soon.. Nice pics though

  • Yep. Ice storm here in Maine right now as I type this. I hope the power stays on.... Winter is such fun times. LOL.

  • The photos were taken by a couple friends of mine mentioned in the credits at the end, & the video description. I just matched a great song to fantastic pictures, that's all.

This video actually turned out better than I expected, if I do say so! Thanks for watching, & for leaving comments too!

  • very nice pictures ***** & greetings

  • Awesome pictures.
