The GSX and GS-T coupe used 2.0L turbo charged moitsubishi motors, not DSM. I own a GS naturally aspirated with a DSM 2.0L and i love the little thing.

@AndyRock1 It is the 4g63 used in Japanese Evolutions with de-tuned specifications. Yes those are Mitsubishi engines, but that is what is part of a joint-venture, using parts from the 2 manufacturers. If you have a GS-T or GSX you still have parts with chrysler traits and parts on it. And btw, DSM ended before the 2nd generation eclipse was made, they were manufactured by Mitsubishi America. However, we who drive them consider them DSMs

@Etah2n the 2gs are dsm's its everything 3g and up is when they started making them all gay and heavy my brother and i have dsm's 90 gsx 92 eclipse 95 talon and they all say dsm under the hood 4g63 stamp even the 2g talon the only difference ive notice between the 1g and the 2g we have is the 2g talon has a 7 bolt head our 1gs have the 6 bolt im not sure what my buddys motor is but his 96 eclipse has DSM on the firewall also either way if you get one there fun as hell for a week then they brake

actually the starion/conquest and the lancer evolution are not dsm, dsms were an alliance between mitsubishi and chrystler, wich made the eclipse the talon and the laser, and were built in the us plant, lancers are not dsm as they were made in japan and have no alliance with chrystler in the build, the 4g63 was just a motor used that was taken from a galant vr4, also the 3000gt/ stealth are also not dsm as they too were built in japan

They got the name Diamond Star Motors because it was like a 3 pointed diamond w/ Plymouth, Eagle and Mitsubishi all working together to produce the same car essentially (1g & 2g awd & fwd Eclipse gst and gsx, fwd 1g Laser rs (or somethin), and 1g and 2g Talon tsi awd's... I think there were fwd 1g Talons. Plymouth left the group after the 1g Laser turbo, and Eagle called it quits in 98' to make it 100% Mitsubishi.

since its a 420a motor i dont kno much about them, but i have heard ppl goiong boost in them, but first starters i would say build the internals first, just my thought, since the compression is higher, u would probably spend less on just building the motor up w/o boost, rather than boosting it, but the type of performance u want from the car is totally up to u, i prefer boost but all motor might be better for the esi

if thats the case i sugest u sell the esi and start looking for a 1g dsm lol, cuz most likely u can find a pretty modded 1g dsm pricing from 2k-4k and most likely they will run mid 12's. so if u want top and fast accel then i think ur best bet is to sell ur esi and buy a 1g dsm tsi, because 2g tsi are a lil more expensive. ^-^

Isn't there enough info out there on modding the 4g63t? Everybody knows they are killer platforms. Not trying to beat a dead horse but if you're really planning to buy a GSX, don't spend one penny on the car you've got now... it's not worth it.

DSM does mean Diamond Star Motors, what it really means is in 1985 Chrylser (star symbol) & Mitsu (3 diamonds) joined, so anything from '85 on with any chrylser & mitsu parts in the same car is technically a DSM. Eclipse/Talon/Laser's just got the dominant name because they are the most common chrysler built body with a Mistu engine, as opposed to the 3000gt/Galant VR4/Conquest & Starion's..either way 4g63 is the greatest engine ever and a DSM is still a Eclipse, Talon, or Laser to the world lol

Wat? Dude... An evo IS a DSM. Evos were first made during the DSM era and up until 2007 had the same 4G63T engine as DSMs. In 2007 they changed to the 4B11T engine which has an 86MM bore and 86MM stroke instead of the 85MM bore and the 88MM stroke of the 4G63. The 4B11T also has a timing chain instead of a belt, it weighs a little less, has full floating pistons and a few other things. This change just happened 2 years ago, up until then it was pretty much the same engine as a DSM.
u are fight bout the motors evos do carry a 4g motor but its a reversed motor and they dont crankwalk, also they are not dsm because evos were not built in the normal ill, plant with the galant, and the other 3 cars
The evo 1-3 had to be specially ordered from the manufacturer so they would built you one. Of the evo 1 only 5,000 were made, evo 2 only 5,000 were made and evo 3 only 7,000 were made world wide, they made 10,000 of the Evo 4 and by the Evo 5 they were just manufactured. You are right though, the Evo 8 was the first evo that was sold in the U.S. without being specially made for the U.S. customer or imported.

All in all there were a lot of VR4's made in the U.S. from 1988-2002 when the production was halted so there could be an engine switch, I forgot which engine they put in, it was one of the 6G engines, just not sure which one.
evo motors are more grown up, 90-93 1g talons, eclipse's, and laser's had a 6 bolt engine. The 2g eclipse's have stock 7 bolts, which were redesigned, and are prone to crankwalk (where the end play on the crankshaft becomes too great, eventually siezing the motor). Evo motors are similar, but theyre not the same, I've never heard of an evo viii+up having any crankwalk symptoms, so Im guessing that issue was resolved.

Nope (and you probably knew, but the Evo neither). They got the name Diamond Star Motors because it was like a 3 pointed diamond w/ Plymouth, Eagle and Mitsubishi all working together to produce the same car essentially (1g & 2g awd & fwd Eclipse gst and gsx, fwd 1g Laser rs (or somethin), and 1g and 2g Talon tsi awd's... I think there were fwd 1g Talons. Plymouth left the group after the 1g Laser turbo, and Eagle called it quits in 98' to make it 100% Mitsubishi.

since its a 420a motor i dont kno much about them, but i have heard ppl goiong boost in them, but first starters i would say build the internals first, just my thought, since the compression is higher, u would probably spend less on just building the motor up w/o boost, rather than boosting it, but the type of performance u want from the car is totally up to u, i prefer boost but all motor might be better for the esi

if thats the case i sugest u sell the esi and start looking for a 1g dsm lol, cuz most likely u can find a pretty modded 1g dsm pricing from 2k-4k and most likely they will run mid 12's. so if u want top and fast accel then i think ur best bet is to sell ur esi and buy a 1g dsm tsi, because 2g tsi are a lil more expensive. ^-^

Isn't there enough info out there on modding the 4g63t? Everybody knows they are killer platforms. Not trying to beat a dead horse but if you're really planning to buy a GSX, don't spend one penny on the car you've got now... it's not worth it.

DSM does mean Diamond Star Motors, what it really means is in 1985 Chrylser (star symbol) & Mitsu (3 diamonds) joined, so anything from '85 on with any chrylser & mitsu parts in the same car is technically a DSM. Eclipse/Talon/Laser's just got the dominant name because they are the most common chrysler built body with a Mistu engine, as opposed to the 3000gt/Galant VR4/Conquest & Starion's..either way 4g63 is the greatest engine ever and a DSM is still a Eclipse, Talon, or Laser to the world lol

no not at all..as long as there is one single part manufatured from mistu, and a single part manufactured by chrysler in that entire car..it's technically a DSM..it doesn't change history and history proves if you search for DSM on google it will bring you an Eclipse/Talon/ or Laser..only because they are so popular..i am an owner of one of each, all turbo, a '98 AWD Eclipse/'91 AWD Talon/90 FWD Laser, and i would only call them DSM's..just clearing up the technicality on the topic.

Wat? Dude... An evo IS a DSM. Evos were first made during the DSM era and up until 2007 had the same 4G63T engine as DSMs. In 2007 they changed to the 4B11T engine which has an 86MM bore and 86MM stroke instead of the 85MM bore and the 88MM stroke of the 4G63. The 4B11T also has a timing chain instead of a belt, it weighs a little less, has full floating pistons and a few other things. This change just happened 2 years ago, up until then it was pretty much the same engine as a DSM.

u are fight bout the motors evos do carry a 4g motor but its a reversed motor and they dont crankwalk, also they are not dsm because evos were not built in the normal ill, plant with the galant, and the other 3 cars

The evo 1-3 had to be specially ordered from the manufacturer so they would built you one. Of the evo 1 only 5,000 were made, evo 2 only 5,000 were made and evo 3 only 7,000 were made world wide, they made 10,000 of the Evo 4 and by the Evo 5 they were just manufactured. You are right though, the Evo 8 was the first evo that was sold in the U.S. without being specially made for the U.S. customer or imported.

All in all there were a lot of VR4's made in the U.S. from 1988-2002 when the production was halted so there could be an engine switch, I forgot which engine they put in, it was one of the 6G engines, just not sure which one.

evo motors are more grown up, 90-93 1g talons, eclipse's, and laser's had a 6 bolt engine. The 2g eclipse's have stock 7 bolts, which were redesigned, and are prone to crankwalk (where the end play on the crankshaft becomes too great, eventually siezing the motor). Evo motors are similar, but theyre not the same, I've never heard of an evo viii+up having any crankwalk symptoms, so Im guessing that issue was resolved.
