Bobby Ray "Bob" Etheridge (born August 7, 1941) is the former U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 2nd congressional district, serving from 1997 until his defeat in 2011. He is also a former county commissioner, state representative, and state superintendent. He is a member of the Democratic Party and is currently a candidate for Governor of North Carolina[1].
I can testify to malago0's story. After Etheridge tackled her he twisted the gun into a knot with his bare hands as the crowd broke into a wild cheer. He then exited the auditorium doing a series of backflips as the band broke into an impromptu version of "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Someone was talking and a lady dragged her kids up on stage by the neck and said "satans a liar satans a liar." She started to pull a gun out of her purse and Bob Etheridge tackled her.
The National Republican Congressional Committee acknowledged in Nov. 2010 that the "students" were their operatives and that this was a political ambush. In fact, this video was used to defeat Etheridge in his re-election campaign that year. Look it up.

They were in a public place, and he had every opportunity to continue walking, without havening to acknowledger their question or even existence. He however was NOT within his rights to grab the kids arm, that was borderline assault. We pay our government officials to serve, protect, and represent us, not the other way around (no mater how dumb the question was... and it was).

He was the right just like you have the right to ask our officials any question, at any time, any place. With that he wasn't rude or being intimidating in any way or fashion. Bullying tactics is a NONO in congress and he should get the boot and the kid should receive a sizable settlement.

Again- Etheredge was totally out of line. But there was obviously an agenda there, and the kid didn't ID himself. If he did that for journalism class- he ought to know that he does need to ID himself. "I'm just a student" doesn't cut it when you're trying to corner a public official with an impromptu interview that he didn't agree to. That is TMZ-esque tabloid shit- not appropriate or professional in DC dealing with a congressman. And as a journalist you should know all of that.
