But the point was, they are far too similar - there was one predecessor to all religions, and that is LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, people didn't understand natural phenomena so they invented gods. In all honesty, he was probably the best and most well respected historian who ever lived. Most of what we know about the jews of that time and the Roman-jewish war comes from Josephus. This is the best rebuttal of this film I have seen. I'm surprised that it was done by an atheist. It is odd to see an atheist who is interested in the truth whatsoever. They are usually far more interested in slandering religion - and Christianity in particular - at ANY cost and have put no value in honesty, as the original film and the book it was based upon demonstrate.
I bought a couple books of Acharya S so that I could go threw her sources. I skimmed threw the first page of sources excitedly as soon as I got them in the mail .. I saw a ton of websites and even wikipedia on the page !! Also noticed she referenced herself under a different pen name D M Murdock. I laughed and threw the books under a shelf . ...Glad someone made a movie about this zeitgeist movie :)

Its interesting to note too, that peter joseph himself stated that the film was never intended to be a release, it was a private production for a manhattan activist group... which he then posted on youtube. I'm sure he believed wat he made, using the information he had, however did not rigourously check his sources at all. it is very unscientific, much the same as religous philosophy. but a great film nonetheless

Horus isn't even a sun god. That'd be Ra, equally hawk headed but not the same beastie. horus was a sky god. the sun was one of his eyes, and the moon the other anyhew, not a sun god. So the day/night horus vs set battle that the movie cites as the origin of the word sunset doesn't make sense mythologically or etymologically.
In fact I don't think even 5% of part one of that shitfest of a movie has any basis in existing mythologies.
I'm sorry, but even if a lot of the stuff in Zeitgeist is unsubstained the film certainly does bring about questionable aspects of Christianity. The figure known as Jesus, for example, was most definitely, (if real) not at all the way the bible (which was indeed written by people NOT GOD) was very inaccurate, and the story was twisted and therefore false.
so how is this so different from mythology? I think I am more comfortable with Greek gods than Christ. WHat is the difference again? And as we've gotten smarter and built computers, and satellites and spaceships and the like; what was God doing? Is anyone one sure he still feels the same as he did 2000 years ago?
Horus was definitely seen to have walked on water in his Sun God version. As in that particular religion the sky was seen as an ocean and Horus' role was intermixed with Ra(The Sun). Hence the Horus walking on water. And Zeitgeist never said EVERY aspect of the Horus story mirrored Jesus EXACTLY. This guy is defensive and blowing stuff out of proportion. And the early golden ankhs definitely depict a Sun rising off a cross(crucifixtion and resurrection) That's why the ankh is a symbol of life.

If you want 'sources', just read most history books that document the rise and fall of the roman empire.The Romans were well known for recycling religions and ideas.On the tail end of their rule is the development of the catholic religion.The catholic evolution from Italian tradition and various religious ideas is well documented.

The Bible may not say Jesus was born on December 25th, but Christmas tradition does, and that is what they were talking about. That should have been obvious, seeing as how we celebrate Christamas on December 25th every year, and the date never changes. Was Jesus ACTUALLY born on December 25th? If you argue about when Jesus was ACTUALLY born, you imply he was real. They didn't make that implication in Zeitgeist. Their implication was that he never existed.
Jesus was actually born in October. A catholic priest (can't remember his name) just set aside that time because all the other pagan religions celebrated the final holidays in December.

Well OK so religions aren't completely the same. But the point was, they are far too similar - there was one predecessor to all religions, and that is LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, people didn't understand natural phenomena so they invented gods. And that was the whole point of that part of zeitgeist... gods have served their purpose of giving people hope in the dark ages, but we don't need them anymore.

In all honesty, he was probably the best and most well respected historian who ever lived. Most of what we know about the jews of that time and the Roman-jewish war comes from Josephus. Read what he wrote about Jesus.

@MrWakethesheeple Yes there is. There are several sources that support the historical existence of a Judean named Jesus who apparently performed miracles and rose from the dead. That is just another thing which zeitgeist blatantly lied about. The roman emperors even wrote about Christ. In the vatican there is apparently a letter from Pilate to the Emperer. Probably the best example of Jesus being wrote about by a contemporary historian is what Josephus wrote about him.

This is the best rebuttal of this film I have seen. I'm surprised that it was done by an atheist. It is odd to see an atheist who is interested in the truth whatsoever. They are usually far more interested in slandering religion - and Christianity in particular - at ANY cost and have put no value in honesty, as the original film and the book it was based upon demonstrate.

I bought a couple books of Acharya S so that I could go threw her sources. I skimmed threw the first page of sources excitedly as soon as I got them in the mail .. I saw a ton of websites and even wikipedia on the page !! Also noticed she referenced herself under a different pen name D M Murdock. I laughed and threw the books under a shelf . ...Glad someone made a movie about this zeitgeist movie :)

roxolan, I understand how u can feel ashamed, tho I dont feel the same way. I think zeitgeist is a nice peice of work criticising the doctrine of history, butit doesnt apply this same skepticism to its own hypothesis. I have no problem with, in fact Im grateful for any works of skepticism, even when they turn out to be under informed. science regularly gets it wrong, however with subsequent works of skepticism, like th video above we all get closer to the truth.

Its interesting to note too, that peter joseph himself stated that the film was never intended to be a release, it was a private production for a manhattan activist group... which he then posted on youtube. I'm sure he believed wat he made, using the information he had, however did not rigourously check his sources at all. it is very unscientific, much the same as religous philosophy. but a great film nonetheless

So this whole rebuttal is about not having credible sources to use as evidence? What about the IDEAS featured in the movie? You can't think of an explanation to disprove what this video says so instead you're going to make it look not credible because of the sources. this video is just as credible of a source as the Holy bible which was OBVIOUSLY written by people. Horus isn't even a sun god. That'd be Ra, equally hawk headed but not the same beastie. horus was a sky god. the sun was one of his eyes, and the moon the other anyhew, not a sun god. So the day/night horus vs set battle that the movie cites as the origin of the word sunset doesn't make sense mythologically or etymologically.
In fact I don't think even 5% of part one of that shitfest of a movie has any basis in existing mythologies.

I'm sorry, but even if a lot of the stuff in Zeitgeist is unsubstained the film certainly does bring about questionable aspects of Christianity. The figure known as Jesus, for example, was most definitely, (if real) not at all the way the bible (which was indeed written by people NOT GOD) was very inaccurate, and the story was twisted and therefore false.

Horus was definitely seen to have walked on water in his Sun God version. As in that particular religion the sky was seen as an ocean and Horus' role was intermixed with Ra(The Sun). Hence the Horus walking on water. And Zeitgeist never said EVERY aspect of the Horus story mirrored Jesus EXACTLY. This guy is defensive and blowing stuff out of proportion. And the early golden ankhs definitely depict a Sun rising off a cross(crucifixtion and resurrection) That's why the ankh is a symbol of life.

I have researched the base argument of Zietgeist,that religions are recycled traditions,myths,and legends and I have found this theory easily and repeatedly plausible. If you want 'sources', just read most history books that document the rise and fall of the roman empire.The Romans were well known for recycling religions and ideas.On the tail end of their rule is the development of the catholic religion.The catholic evolution from Italian tradition and various religious ideas is well documented.

The Bible may not say Jesus was born on December 25th, but Christmas tradition does, and that is what they were talking about. That should have been obvious, seeing as how we celebrate Christamas on December 25th every year, and the date never changes. Was Jesus ACTUALLY born on December 25th? If you argue about when Jesus was ACTUALLY born, you imply he was real. They didn't make that implication in Zeitgeist. Their implication was that he never existed.
