  • Good job Cheesemonkey. I'm sure that our Mother of Carmel will be watching over you very closely. I'm surprised that you are so well acquainted with things Carmelite.

  • @argosjkj the brown scapular is universal. As for carmelite spirituality is is similar to that of the Franciscans. St. Peter of alcantara was a franciscan. He was St. Theresa of Avila's 1st spiritual director, so there is a noticable influence of the franciscan way on the reformed carmelites of St. T. and St. John of the Cross.

  • I was just enrolled today :D I got a lot of feedback since I'm the youngest in the parish to have done so, I believe.

  • Does anyone no how to roll it up? O.o ! Can anyone post intructions or a vid/.

  • Friend cheesemonkey, are you discerning a vocation to the priesthood? If so, avoid the rot, e.g., the Jesuits. I recommend the FSSP.

  • Im actually thinking CFRs myself. They are a hard core group of Franciscans out of the Bronx of New York who work with the poor.

  • Excellent. Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

  • yes, I know a thing or two about Jesuit Moral philosophy and it is not the best, but that actually depends on what community, there are still a few orthodox congregations of Jesuits out there.

  • There are a few exceptions to the rot, of course. James V. Schall, for example, is one of my favorite writers today.

  • You seem to be very good at getting me off point. My point is very straight forward. If you continue to teach the falseness of this brown cloth salvation "The Lord rebuke you"

  • I said explicitly that the scapular is NOT a one way ticket to heaven and you are not under any obligation to believe it. What we MUST believe ended with the death of the last apostle. Everything that came after that we are NOT obligated to believe for salvation.

  • I would strongly suggest you read Matthew 23. It is a pretty good summary of the Roman Catholic Church today.

  • typical anti Catholic Jargon. That is the denunciation of the pharisees. Your ministers have been feeding you lies about Rome and there is nothing I can do to change that, it has been too much ingrained into your head. It's called endoctrinization. I will tell you though that everything you think you know about Rome is a lie and that you are short of the truth with your theology. I feel sorry for you.

  • If a man is on a desert island with nothing more than a Bilbe can he become a Roman Catholic? The answer is a resounding NO... What he can become is a Christian. That is the core of my objection to the nonsense you aspouse. It's about salvation and a relationship with Christ. It's not about all the other trimmings that detract from the message of GOD's grace. My hope isa that your not offended, that is not my intention, but, that you honestly and openly look at scripture for what it says.

  • A man who simply takes the Bible at face value would be compelled to believe in slavery, mass genocide in the name of God, sexism and that the universe was created in 6 days. Catholics hold and teach every word in the Bible for what it really means and protestant theology perverts that and becomes unbiblical. An example: solo scriptura: What is written.

  • not true, The Bible is the revelation of GOD, about GOD, from GOD for us to know who GOD is. You may take those ugly things away from the Bible but that is not what I take away. I am interested to hear what "perversion " protestant theology contains, perhaps these arguments are compelling and scriptural enough I can use them when discussing theology with a protestant.

  • When Paul gave us 2 Tim 3:16 he meant the Old Testament: Thus scripture in it's proper context meant that only the Old testament was inspired by God and profitable to us. Plus he commands his readers to hold fast to the traditions he and the apostles presented the people. Do you remember John saying that not all the volumes in the world could record all Christ said and did? I would say that if we were to go back in time 2000 years, I would feel more comfortable with the teaching of the Apostles

  • not true about 2 Tim 3:16. So to follow your logic ... The New Testament is not Divinely Inspired? That's what I see you writing... The verse does say "ALL SCRIPTURE" is the New Testament not scripture? If it is not part of ALL them what the heck do you base your Christian faith on anyway? Are the Gospels not inspired? I am interested to see the verbal gymnastics you use to justify yourself in light of that fact.

  • Friend, as the great John Henry Newman discovered much to his surprise, "to be deep in history is to cease being Protestant." Read his Apologia pro vita sua, along with his An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine.

  • As a Christian, it's really offensive how you place signifigance on Mary and these artifacts. Not Biblical at all. You are worshiping false gods when you do this.

  • Actually, even Jesus honoerd his mother. She is also our mother. This is very obvious becuase John represented the universal church on calvary when Jesus said, Son, behold your mother. He was addressing all of us. Also she is indeed the queen of heaven as we can see in Rev. 12:1. She has a great honor being the mother God. Also I will point out that this is private revalaton and thus not necessary for salvation, the Bible is public revalation and we must hold and live those things to be saved

  • Matthew 11:11 Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Bible is clear on the greatness of Mary. Of those born among women, she was born of a woman. Romans 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things." Don't worship things

  • Given that, then John the Baptist is greater than Jesus, since He (Jesus) too was born of a woman. But mary herself says, "From this day, all generations will call me blessed." Mary, though as I have said is Queen of heaven, which makes her one of the greatest in heaven.

  • Under your premise Mary is greater than JESUS? Obviously, Jesus does not include himself in that statement because he is GOD (1/3 of the holy trinity)

Their are not sufficent scriptures for Mary being the "Queen of Heavan"

Absolutely, Mary was blessed to be the mother of JESUS. She is mearly the instrument GOD used to birth JESUS and nothing more from a worship standpoint. She is a sinner just like the rest of us.Romans 3:23 all have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD.

  • No, Jesus is God, bu he as also human and he deemed to be obedient to her. As I have said, Mary is queen of Heaven on 2 grounds, Rev 12:1 and the fact she is theokos the mother of the person Jesus who is God and man so tha makes her queen mother. Mary was saved from sin BEFORE her conception, not after like us. Consider this, a person is walking along and falls in a hole and someone pulls them out, they are saved. Another person is walking and before they fall into the hole, someone grabs ctd.

  • That is a doctrine in direct contridiction to scripture. If you want to make up your theology that is your perogative.

ALL means ALL , ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD. GOD makes that crystal clear. To place an individual (MAry)as your intercessor between you and JESUS is also unnessary according to scripture.1 Timothy 2:5 (New King James Version)

5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

    Scripture ALWAYS superceeds tradition, ALWAYS

  • MARY IS NOT A MEDIATOR, some protestant made that up a long time ago. Mary needed a savior just like us, but as I said, she was saved from sin BEFORE her conception. Paul says, "See that you hold true to the TRADITIONS we have given you." The Bible itslef evolved out of ORAL TRADITION of the aposltes. By denying Mary's significance to us as you have you are degrading Jesus' divinity, he needed her in order to come into the world and gave her to us on calvary.

  • Where can I find that in the scriptures? So, is it possible that Mary sinned after her conception? Of course she has sinned. That makes her a sinner in need of redemption. She needs a savior. This renders your argument mute.John 3:3 (New King James Version)

3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Even Mary "MUST BE BORN AGAIN".

    Also,

  • Mary is human, she needed a savior, she said so herself, but in order that the stain of original sin not defile the human person Jesus, God rescued her from original sin before her conception. Show me in the Bible showing Mary being baptized the first time. The born again thing refered to baptism.

  • Where in the Bible does it say Mary is without original sin. I would love to look it up an study it. If it does not come from scripture it is a doctrine of man, therefore discounting it's truth.

  • Where in the Bible does it say Bible or that the Bible is the inspired word of God. I assume you, like most Christians go to church on Sundays. Where is SUNDAY listed as the sabbath, biblically it is SATURDAY, Sunday is a day of rest. The point is this, the Bible is a source of truth, but not the only source. Apostolic tradition is another. It is not explicitly mentioned that she was born without original sin, but as I have said it makes perfect sense for God to do this.

  • I still need a little clarification. Is the Bible the infallible word of GOD?

  • yes. We as Catholics teach and believe this. The point is, we can not use the Bible to prove that, we need a credible outside source (Holy Spirit) who declared the Bible to be so via the Roman Catholic Church.

  • Where did Jesus command ANYTHING to be written down. By the way, what is the origin of the Bible, I know this one, but I want to hear your side of the story.

  • Jesus is not the only portion of the Trinity. GOD inspired scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16 (New King James Version)

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

  • Hail Mary Full of Grace the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb (Jesus).

Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

  • Also if you are suggesting that the Bible "evolved" as in it changed. You need to do your research on the history of and compilation of the Bible. The scriptures of today are the same as those discovered in the Dead Sea. If we can not agree that the Bible is GOD's infallible word then we really have nothing further to discuss. On the same vein. If you are telling me that oral tradition trumps the Bible, again those oral traditions were written down in the Bible so they would not be changed.

  • no as in came out of the oral tradion of the apostles who saw Jesus do the things he did, those things were not written down till later.

  • SO am I to understand that the Bible is or is not the infallible word of GOD.. Can't really tell by your answer.

  • YES IT IS. I am simply saying that by using a source to validate that same source is circular logic. I am too familiar with 2 Tim 3:16 but as I said, you can not use the Bible to prove the Bible is valid and inspired.

  • As far as validation. CHRIST himself quotes scripture from all the Old testament books except Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon. This does not mean they are not inspired.Jesus is the "outside source" for them. As for the New Testament. It is not 1 book it's 27 books building one upon another, yet done by a variety of authors. The thread of CHRIST runs through all and they do not contradict each other. The Canon of the New Testament is well established.

  • You are correct in saying this... but what gives Christ validity outside the Bible? My point is that the Bible does not ever claim to be the divinely inspired word of God and even if it did we need an outside source. That source is the Roman Catholic Church, we were the ones to compile the Bible as you know it and declare it to be the divinely inspired word of God.

  • Rome is not the HOLY SPIRIT. Your self rightiousness on this issue is almost overwhelming. If you can't believe the bible to be divinely inspired then I was wrong to assume we are brothers in CHRIST and his salvation. Like I said before "The LORD rebuke you."not me.

  • No, but she IS GUIDED by the Holy Spirit. Of Course the Bible is the inspired word of God, I lost count of how many times I have affirmed my belief in this notion. It is just your way of proving it is is WAY different than mine. AS I SAID, I DO BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE IS DIVINELY INSPIRED!!!!!

  • oral tradion written down so it would not be changd: EXACTLY!!! And they remained unchanged for about 1500 years until MArtin Luther came around...

  • The books of the Bible were written between 30 to 60 years after the crusifiction of CHRIST. The oral portion of the New Testament is quite short. As for as Luther goes he did not change anything. He simply pointed out the false doctrines within the church. Like people who place power in a brown piece of cloth rather than Christ. If only the thief on the cross had a brown piece of cloth. Oh that's right , He had to do NOTHING but profess the Lordship of Christ to enter heaven.

  • She was Full of grace. She didn't have some grace, it's not a binary thing, either it's on or it's off... Mary is full of grace, there was no room for sin in her being. I'm just a lay Catholic. But even I know Jesus from the cross gave her to us as our mother. Am I right cheesemonkey, or am I missing something.

  • ctd them before they fall in the hole. Both were saved, just under different circumstances. Mary's honor is like the moon's relationship to the sun, it reflects the sun's light, without the sun, the moon is a crator floating around us. Jesus is the sun and Mary is the moon, it is because of her special relationship to Jesus that we HONOR her, not worship. We do NOT WORSHIP MARY!!!!!

  • One of the many reasons we love her, and all of our saints is that they direct us to Christ. The last thing recorded in the Bible from Mary was... ? I'll let you figure that one out.

  • her last words were, "Do whatever he tells you." But she shows up finally at Pentecost with the Apostles.

  • @cheesemonkey1990 Thank you. Excellent addition too. I would've like to know more about what mssion she took on as the events Acts were going on.

  • basically, while she was present at pentacost, we do not really know what her life was like. She is only mentioned asa being present with the Apostles, but I imagine, especially with Luke (who was not an Apostle) and John who was trusted by Jesus to take care of her after he died she had a significant relationship to. Remeber though, she was jesus' mother and was probably very supportive behind the scense with the apostles. Again, I can not say for certain, but I can guess.

  • Excellent video Zack. Especially the closing advice ....

  • thank you very much, I am planning one on the Rosary.

  • Thanks for the video brother. God Bless. Ted

  • no problem, had a fun time making this one.

  • Great video cheesemonkey!!

Keep up the good work my friend.

    spasjt

  • no problem, thanks for the comment.

  • Great video!

God bless you all my brothers and sisters in Christ.

  • I was just watching an episode of Mother Angelica Live Classics that I recorded from a few days ago. I finally watched it. And she spoke about the Brown Scapular.

    I wear a Five Fold Scapular. It's pretty big and has the five colors including the brown one;

    Red Scapular of the Passion

Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception

Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Black Scapular of the Mother of Sorrows

    White Scapular of the Trinity

  • there is a green one too, what is up with that one? The Brown one is the most significant one I think.

  • Yes Zach, there is also a green one but that one we do not wear. It is more as a sort of "badge" that we carry in our pockets / purses.

I have a few of those with different people's names on them. They are for the conversion of a person. I put the person's name on it & pray for their conversion. It is also said that we could slip it to them, unsuspectingly, pillow, mattress... if they do not want it. Well, too bad... LOL you're gettin' it.

  • wow. Yeah, I have sen those, but never knew what they were for. thank you.

  • The Green Scapular is sometimes called "The Badge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary."

On the back side it has the picture of the Heart and it says, "Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us, now and at the hour of our death." with no "Amen" at the end... it's like that for a reason. It should be our ongoing prayer.

  • CORRECTION: Any time i said Roman ritual in the comments page I meant to say "Book of Blessings. It is not in the R.R but in this book. Sorry about that. Everything else is true.

  • Very nice video

    GBU

  • This is very interesting... Thanks for sharing.

  • no problem. keep your eyes open for my next one on the Rosary.

  • I did not stroke out the swelling in my brain started to subside immediately they were able to ween me off vent in the next 48 hours this was 3 years ago I suffer fron seizures now and what they call spasmodic torticallis u see the swelling had swelled on my brain stem was clinically dead..my scapular kept me going so that I could recieve my sacraments as promised by our Mother thru the rosary and still am here today ..had gone on and my late mother tokd me I had to come back cont

  • any priest or deacon can. Saying a Marian prayer (Hail Mary, Memorare etc.) while placing over your head will suffice.

  • Zach, there are special prayers that need to be said and also for the Scapular to be blessed with Holy Water while a prayer is said. The person being enrolled also has their part in the prayers. Just saying a Hail Mary will not suffice.

  • Hmm, I read somewhere that it could simply be a Marian prayer and the actual reception. I did know about the long form in the book of blessings. thanks.

  • the bar came crashing down on the back of my skull all 120 pounds of it, I was then pitched forward and hit the front of my head.. they waited to call an ambulance to "see" if I would come out of it..when the emt's arrived I was only breathing 3 breaths per minute blood pressure was 298/196 was intubated on site family was called they called our priest he administered sacrament of the sick, I had not yet recieved any sacraments that day.. continues

  • would like to share my story of the brown scapular and rosary..I worked sporting goods dept. at walmart , a customer had put together a gold gym's barbell set..I couldn't leave it together so that no one could get hurt. I called for help 2 workers came and lifted the barbell while I put a 40# weight back where it belonged on the bottom shelf..another worker decided he wanted to help geabbed the bar the others lost control continues

  • as long as you were enrolled by a priest you are good. just buy a new one and put it on and it will be blessed. Once enrolled always enrolled.

  • It's never too late to get a new one :)

I have not felt good enough to get myself a scapular until now.

  • please do, there are, obviously tremendous graces that come along with them.

  • BC, it would have been okay to get one even if you felt you were "not good enough." It is when we feel we are "not good enough" that Jesus wants us to go to Him. If we wait until we are good enough and we wait without Jesus, we will NEVER be good enough. :) So go to Him especially when you feel you are not good enough.

  • Thank you

  • Great video, very informative, I wear my scapular all of the time, to remind me how our Blessed Mother wraps me in Her Protective Mantle, and how She is Co-Redemptrix, She gave Her consent for Her Son to die for MY SINS, Jesus paid a debt He did not owe...Thank you Momma Mary, Thank You, my Lord and my God!!!, Thank you for making this video!!!God Bless

  • Co-Redemptrix is not official teaching.

    :)

  • Black Cappa, thank you for your correction, I have read that Mary had to consent to Jesus's giving himself up to death, so I kinda feel like she aided in my redemption, although there is only ONE who died for me, Jesus himself, I constantly bear in mind and heart His sufferings, and as a mother, would I be that unselfish and watch my child die, a horrible death, so to me, I cannot imagine Her sufferings as well, but I appreciate you correcting this for me, God Bless, Lisa

  • my pleasure, I really had fun making this one.

  • Are these approved miracles?

Very nice video, thanks a lot for sharing.

    I should consider getting scapulars.

  • the one about the dude and the train was one that happened very close to the priest who gave the sermon I read the account from, so I would say yes they are. BTW: be sure it is a brown one and that you are enrolled by a priest or deacon. That way you get all the graces that come along with it.

  • I am afraid that the priests in my parish do not even know how to properly enroll someone...

Is there a manual I could print out?

  • it's simple. He could in short form simply say a Marian prayer as he places a BLESSED scapular over you, the blessing of a scapular is different from other religious things like rosaries. this should be in the Roman Ritual In long form, should also be in the Roman Ritual, if not I will find out like tomorrow for you and get it to you.

  • Thanks for the info!

    It is much appreciated.

  • Hi BlackCappa, in the package a scapular comes in, are the directions for enrollment, My Priest did it for me, I do recommend a Benedictin Scapular also with the Miraculous Medal and St. Benedict Crucifix...God Bless

  • that's the kind I am wearing, Wohoo!

  • BC, there are prayers that need to be said. The Scapular also needs to be blessed with Holy Water while the Priest says a prayer over it. There are also parts for you to pray as the respondent during the enrollment.

You could go to freebrownscapular website for a form you could download as a Word file or PDF.

I would rather the Priest go through the whole enrollement process with the proper prayers. A Marian prayer alone will not suffice.

  • That's what I suspected. Thanks for the resource. I will check it and hope that my parish priest knows about the procedure.

  • the print out should cover that. If not, it is pretty self explanatory. Bless the scapular, say the prayers, put it on with a certain invocation and it is done.
