@fattwat1 Quatermass and the Pit was the third in the series of Quatermass films...I'm guessing that the name Quatermass was totally unfamiiar to American audiences in 1968 since they hadn't seen the BBC tv programmes, so the producers decided to rename it entirely.
I had totally forgotten about this movie until I ran across it on TMC today. I loved this movie! And it's still good watching it as a grownup. Wish they made movies like this now instead of with all the gore.
Some utterly brilliant British Science Fiction films were distributed in the United States by complete ignoramuses who didn't have a clue or seem to care or give a damn about story, theme, audiences or anything else. This was a solid movie adaptation of a television masterpiece and it's presented here like any old B movie.
Am I the only one who thinks the people who make "trailers" are morons? especially today, they are incomprehensible flashes that do not give a feel for a movie, with glaring sound/effects and a narrator doing a shtick. I show up at movies 10 minutes late so I miss them.
@RobertMOdell Well ya, it was a temporary thing of course but back then a kid could really be frightened by a movie like that. I think today's kids are just to desensitized. Just my opinion.
I own a copy and just got through watching it again. In many ways, it's an excellent movie and far ahead of it's time.
@Donkwoon I just remembered the movie a few times in adulthood and found it after all these years thanks to google. It's about what I recalled watching as a 10 yo. It's not the action, but the message and what you don't see that is the killer.
@Donkwoon It's not just the kids...we all are. I remember being totally fascinated by this movie when I saw it on TV years after its release. Looking for a copy now, but can't seem to find one in Region 1. I was hoping someone would have posted the whole thing on here. Oh, well. On, on!
@Donkwoon Well, I searched for that title on Youtube and found the original 1950's version...the whole movie, which apparently was serialized. I sat through all of it at once, and it was great; after a few minutes, I stopped noticing the 1950s anachronisms and just got sucked up into the story. Very low tech, but very effective., although the 'science' was cutting edge for the times - the Star Trek of it's generation? Thanks for the heads-up!
Oh dear, oh dear. Crappy U.S. Trailer alert! Why bother seeing one of the all time GREAT sci-fi movies when shite like this shows you all the good bits, with a piss-poor voiceover that could make one think that the actual movie was toss. To see what a Quatermass trailer SHOULD look like, search Youtube for 'Quatermass Experiment & Quatermass II' by MysteronAgent. It's stunning.
I feel sorry for anyone who has never seen this movie..... Spare no expense to find it and see it..... I saw it about 20 years after it was made and could not believe I had never heard of it before that.
The movie is infinitely better than what this cheesy & campy trailer would indicate. It's easily one of my all time favorite sci-fi movies. It was well done, well acted, and had a plot that was much better than most other sci-fi films of the day. And the story behind the "villain" is unique in itself; presenting the viewer with a very interesting take on an age old evil.
I first saw this trailer as a very small child and it scared the hell out of me. I always wanted to see the movie, and tonight I finally found it on television after almost ten years of searching. It didn't disappoint, in fact it exceeded expectations. Excellent, excellent classic sci-fi.
This is the film of a very old BBC TV programme. By modern standards, poor special effects and not very good acting. But it was one of those shows that everyone was talking about. It was brilliant TV. Relied on a strong story and a "cliffe hanger at the end of each episode" Even now, it looks better than a lot of modern stuff.
OMG, I must have watched this film in the 70's everytime it was on. Now I understand why I need therapy. The cinematography was awful, and the soundtrack atrocious. I can't wait to see it again!
@oldmuley ...dig deep on eBay and you can find the DVD. I bought one two years ago. There is one...out there...somewhere...arghhh...my brain is melting!
Can't you people follow the story line? The image of the hive alien bug that appears was a beacon that caused the weaker members of the martian insect population to be destroyed by the stronger members(periodically). On earth this image causes the ignorant and the emotionally weaker people to hallucinate and destroy themselves. Why see the devil in everything when the movie clearly shows that messing around with alien tech is nothing but trouble. Lesson learned! Great film!
This is the American trailer with different scenes and different voice-over to the original British trailer (Quatermass and the Pit), although running the same length. However, it's interesting to see the way the film was pitched in the States, as opposed to the UK. The British trailer is much better than the American one.
Aaahghhh...... It's Obamanation....... I'm sorry.. I remember this movie from when I was a kid. No disrespect intended. A much better film than president. Really though.... Aaaghhh..... check out Satan when he rises above the gantry.... I could swear I recognize that profile.... Hammer Film's RULE!
@witchman67 Such a great movie! I saw it at an all night movie showing. It was the second last movie of the all nighter. Everyone cheered and clapped at the end because it was sooo good! I still love it!
I remember this movie scaring the crap out of me when i was a kid. Since my english wasn't that good i actually thought at the end that: the ground opened and the devil appeared...Just a giant alien bug (with antenea instead of horns).
Wow....can't imagine what someone who saw this trailer thought when they went to see the film! On top of the fact that they make this look like constant fighting and destruction instead of the thoughtful classic that it is...was there any part of this movie they didn't spoil?
One of the most original science fiction films made. Written by Nigel Neale adapted from his BBC tv serial - Quatermass and the Pitt. A Hammer Studios classic. The trailer does this film a disservice.
