But i gaurantee you will get a better picture in a 3D digital theater than imax. For a non 70mm film.

James cameron chose dolby spectral division 3D and 2 2k cinema projectors for AVATAR Premiere because  dolby has the sharpest 3d with best depth perception and 2 projectors to overcome the filtering through glasses that dim the image to the eyes.

Honestly why would you want to see dark of the moon on IMAX?

Its not a 70mm film which is what imax only plays. It was shot 1/3 on film and 2/3 on the fusion digital 3D camera which is 2k vs imax's 10k+.

The digital shots will hold up reasonably well but the film shots of 35mm will look blurry particularly in action shots.

If you just want to see it for the experience of the sheer size of imax then sure see it in imax.

Amc Stars has 3d in most of its theater here in Michigan which is a good thing but nothing compares to the Forum 30's imax theater.

i saw 2012 at the imax and oh my god, it basically blew me out of my seat cuz its an action movie, and the screen is so big, it was like a whole new experience. i gotta go see another movie there soon!

@Kniew $2-$5 more. Depends on where you live as well. I'm going to be seeing Avatar 3D Imax for $9 but a theater nearby is giving it for $10.50. After 6pm I think It's $14.50.

IMAX has come from a great platform for documentaries specially made for the format, to a money-making scheme to show Hollywood films that weren't made for it in an unexciting, letterboxed, show-off experience. Bigger doesn't always mean better.
