  • mo is vital to mma history, gsp or etc prolly won't be. in a time when a 250lb wrestler laid on your chest it was considered a death sentence and the match may as well be stopped or you'd be killed. well he was one of if not the first to show otherwise, and on the highest level.

  • would of loved to see a 12 rd k1 rules fight smith vs dennis alexio in the early 90s to bad it didnt happen i think alexio would of won 12 dec.

  • @jbott614 Alexio didn't like K-1 rules Stan Longinidis broke his leg when he tried low kick fight. Mo had good hard low kicks.

  • @BootlegFightVideo thats funny i watched him fight low kick rules vs a number of fighters but most of his career was full contact rules because thats what paid the most and had the most fans and the big shows k1 didnt even come out until alexio was at the very end of his career i remember alexio had a fight and he was the champ and asked for low kick rules and the iska told him the fight had to be fc. rules

  • @jbott614 He broke his leg in 10 seconds doing it vs Stan, wore footpads to do it vs Cikatic too. K-1 was around 5 years before he retired, K-1 type rules for modified MT were around before K-1. Roufus used to only be FC for $ but became bigtime K-1 guy and was brave enough 10 yrs. before Alexio retired to fight Kiatsongrit with lowkicks. Kaman, Smit, Hoost, Mo, Mannaart, Aerts, Alexio could have fought but didn't because he wasn't into MT/K-1 rules even though he dabbled in it poorly.

  • @BootlegFightVideo yes but at the time alexio was the biggest paid kickboxer he made over 50 g a fight and k1 at the time didnt pay shit dude trust me ive been around the sport over 20 yr he didnt fight many leg kick fights because the promoters in the usa that paid dennis big money demanded that the rules be full contact rules when people came up with big money like the branko fight he would fight low kicks and i dont care what any of you say he was killing branko and about to ko his ass

  • remember kickboxing in the usa in the 70s 80s and early 90s was supposed to be ''pro karate'' not mt. even the stan fight was not mt rules as many of you think even that promoter made the fight ''oriental'' rules and there was no bows or knees aloud it was fc rules with low kicks aloud. k1 only paid fighters less than 5g a fight back then so dont blame dennis alexio who made over 50g a fight for not wanting to fight for chump change in the k1

  • @jbott614 The 70's aren't involved as they were 80's and up fighters. I don't care where the money is it's the best fighters in the best fights and FC may have made Alexio money but it was a lame style compared to MT or K-1. His bank got fat his legacy is FRINGE to where the sport went. Mo and Roufus proved it vs Thai's, Dutch, FC guys, MMA guys, K-1 guys they didn't sit in the 70's making money pretending karate was the best like Alexio or Chuck Norris.

  • @BootlegFightVideo never said it was the best but legacy didnt mean shit its about the money we all know that if k1 was going to pay you 10 grand and a vegas full contact promoter was going to pay you 50g and put the fight on abc and espn live tell me what fight would you take? I respect your opinion and I know you know kickiboxing but I myself like fc rules i like the high kicks and the spinning backfist and thats what was on tv when i was a kid.

  • @jbott614 I don't rate money for how I judge fighters. Some of the greatest standup combat fighters of all-time made puny Thai baht not big American dollars and had no US TV exposure.

  • @BootlegFightVideo and to call him number 10 is crazy he is top 3 no matter what and he beat the fuck outa branko what fight did you watch? and stan the fluke was a lucky ass RE BRAKE of the same broken leg in the same spot froam a yr b4 he was going to MURDER stan the man that shit was a joke and he beat good fighters he did take a lot a bs fights just to stay active and keep the big checks coming in i have no problom with the jet #1 mo #2 but alexio is no worse than #3

  • @jbott614 His record is his record not my opinion or your opinion/excuses. Don the Dragon beat Alexio, Mo, some OK Thai's, Cikatic, draw Theriault so no chance for Alexio at #3. Other superior Americans Manson Gibson, Cung Le, Benny the Jet, Sugarfoot Cunningham. Carter Williams at one point beat Roufus and Mike McDonald in the same night. Alexio can be listed with guys like Superfoot Wallace and Joe Lewis.

  • in 98 maurice smith turned down a fight vs alexio when alexio called maurice on the phone and asked for a fight under fc rules why? because the promoter was going to pay them each over 60 grand and the k1 could not even pay one of them that much..............smith turned the fight down that is the truth. smith is the 3rd best usa kickboxer of all time..............1 is alexio 2 is rick the jet and 3 is mo smith

  • @jbott614 In 98 Smith was RELEVANT, 2x UFC champ fighting K-1 qualifiers, Alexio wound down his career in an outmoded style vs scrubs in HI. You said USA kickboxer you left out FULL CONTACT as Alexio was nothing K-1 modified MT rules. Roufus,Smith knew FC was done and moved on to prove they are greater fighters of multiple styles. Alexio fought 3 big-time fighters going 0-2-1 Wilson, Cikatic, Longinidis. Roufus #1 (beat Mo,Longinidis,Hoost,Kaman,Gibson,McDonald,Thierault) Mo #2 Alexio #10.

  • @jbott614 Maurice was actually better in long fights. He was known for his superb stamina and he would whittle away at guys. His career before k-1 was long kickboxing and muay thai fights. He went undefeated for almost 10 years and defended his title 28 times against the top contenders for each belt he held. Mo vs. Stan was one of the best heavy weight kickboxing fights of all time. Great long fight! But Mo was always in control. Even the "knock down" was a slip if you watch closely.

  • What Maurice Smith did for Frank Shamrock's career, alone, is a testament to his knowledge and understanding of the fight game. He's a legend, and it sucks how he, and other champions of the time of UFC's inception are forsaken by the new breed.

  • 11 people don't understand that you can't sweat the technique

  • still waiting on video of mo vs ruas 2 in ifl....

  • Mo was a great fighter who not only did well in full contact karate be excelled in Ultimate fighting.

  • I'm more of a tactiful fighter

  • he was a ufc heavywirght champ dik, wat do u mean his mma stats

  • No one gave him a chance vs. Coleman, when everyone thought the wrestlers couldn't lose to kickboxers. A great upset. Before the fight, Mo said Coleman punches "like a girl." Then Coleman said he'd pound out Mo easy. After the fight, Coleman said he was embarrassed by making light of Mo's skills. Coleman then lost a total of four fights in a row and was considered totally washed up before his comeback.

  • @JoeyFudd i don't know anyone who thought a wrestler would beat a kick-boxer.i hate watching wrestlers trying to fight mma. they do the "takedown" then lay down. (American wrestlers) Im surprised coleman went that far. And in my opinion, he's a poor sport. Watch him after his other losses...disappointing. it's called martial ART , Mo is an artist. I don't like the music on this one. It doesn't fit well with the subject.

  • @MultiBuakaw C'mon, UFC fans who paid attention thought the wrestler would beat the kickboxer, based on UFC history. Dan Severn fought a kickboxer in an early UFC and threw him around like a rag doll, almost broke the guy's neck. And a good kickboxer like Pat Smith was beat by Ken Shamrock. Dan Frye, a wrestler, beat kickboxers in early UFC's too.

  • @MultiBuakaw yeah, like Smith said after Randy Coutoure took his belt " With the rules you know, it's a wrestlers sport, he held me down the whole fight, he didn't hurt me"

  • @scanoetrip He said Quote; It's a wrestlers sport? Where can I see that. Personally I think the skills Mo has is what makes k-1 / & early UFC so fantastic. I mean, you COULD win a belt by controlling your opponent on the ground for 10 minutes. Or you could bring your foot way up and slam it into your opponents head knocking him unconcious. ( conan ) That is probably part of why Smith gets top dollar for his efforts. I've met him and he is COOL.

  • THE ORIGINAL SPRAWL & BRAWLER!

  • I wonder how come he hasn't been inducted into the so caleed UFC hall of fame?????

  • because he only fought a handful of times

  • what's the name of the song? is really great, also Mo Smith, he's the man

  • tigersharks 206 represent

  • smith is the man, his mma record doesnt do justice to how skilled he is

  • He is damned skilled! To whip Marco KING OF THE STREETS Ruas convincingly TWICE mind you says a lot!

  • youre god damn right

  • i agree with you man, most of his losses was due to submissions, and back that time strikers weren't that skilled for submssions, i think that would explain his record. Hands down for one of the best

  • I had money on Smith when he fought Coleman. I knew he was going to beat him, because I saw the Conan fight :)

Two legendary MMA wins for Smith.

  • i fight just like him!

  • nice bvut i prefer crocops high kicks...WHO CARE DUDE WHAT U PREFER U IDIOT.

  • Maurice was a more accomplished kickboxer than Cro Cop ever was or will be.

  • You don't need to say things like that. They're both great kickboxers, no sense in playing favorites. Maurice is the calm, tactical veteran...but really to most people he probably doesn't stand out because he's such a methodical fighter.

Crocop has that deadly instant KO ability out of nowhere and he has extremely dangerous strikes, but on the flipside he seems a bit weak defensively. They're both great fighters they just have two different approaches.

  • Read what he said again. He said "more accomplished", not "greater". Stop typing for two seconds to think about what that actually means.

Mo had a HW title, which is more than Crocop can say. Not to mention he was one of the first MMA fighters to successfully blend standup and grappling, beating many top-ranked grapplers of the time.

They are both great fighters, but Mo has a more accomplished career.

  • mo never did well in k1 rules,I reckon crocop would have beaten him based on his fights in k1

  • MAurice is da man

  • No one was ever able to KO him in MMA.

  • dman what a leg kicks...that's how it's done...

  • He showed that technical kickboxing at it's best can work well in the MMA.

  • Can someone post the Maurice-Tank fight?

  • Agreed. I always liked "Big Moe" - I always thought he was a classy guy and a good sport. He never talked trash to his opponents.

  • mo's striking PWNS!!!

  • Nice but i prefer crocop's high kicks xD

  • great vid.

  • For sure one of my favorite fighters from back in the day. Damn good video!

  • MO IS THE MAN

  • I think he still involved with MMA. There was an IFL event on the other night and i saw him coaching one of the teams.

  • Yeah he is actually. He's coaching the 'Tiger Sharks' based in Seattle.

  • he fought bas rutten?

  • he lost to bas twice.

  • yeah and he lost via rnc

  • Twice. And lost both times.

  • God, what an awesome striker....awesome video too!

  • IEN SATANICO BUEN TRABAJO INFERNAL

  • haha awesome, my names Mo too! and im totally into MMA..

  • OG bad ass, loved it when he made Tank quit on the leg shots. Dont Sweat the Technique.

  • nice video , although i don t like the music

  • what for a music is it on the background...its awesome*__________*

  • "don't sweat the technique" Eric B and Rakim

  • @bertibubu "WHAT FOR A MUSIC " ? why you do wording / The interview points out the fact that Maurice is focused on technique. MO,..you out there? what kind of music do you prefer?

  • great fighter

  • The 1st "striker" to learn how to defend himself on the ground. Although his ability to escape from bottom wasnt great.

  • yah, love the music...but hey, I don't mind korn and other alternative/metal/hardcore songs on highlight vid either...

  • nice! BIG MO!!!

  • good chit ese' dude.

  • dude is nice.& rakim -dont sweat the technique good choice.

  • I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT THE MUSIC BEFORE I READ THE COMMENTS. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE PUT THAT SHITTY MUSIC ON GREAT HIGHLIGHT TAPES!!!

  • great video....thanks for not using some horrible music like korn or something :)

  • One of the greatest innovators of this sport.

  • He made MMA fun to watch again during a time when almost all the fights were going to the ground. Right at the time when strikers were laughed at as having nothing to offer. I loved the look on grappling fans faces when he beat Mark Coleman.
