  • that building was oooolllddd.. regardless of history, it remaining would have killed its glamorous history. its enlarged now in death than what it really was.. just a good and decent building

  • ok, so if they decided to tear it down because of the Kennedy shooting, why dont they drop a bomb on Dallas where the other Kennedy was shot? Bloody rediculous! So many other wonderful memories where left there too.

  • It was a beautiful place.

Too bad it was torn down.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • LA is so crazy of taking a Big Historic History of this structure.....They should of just Left it.....LEFT IT....

  • yeah i herd they saved alot of pieces from the pantry/kitchen. It looks very depressing, it reminds me of san bernardino. The area declining but so many historic structures have been bulldozed....forfriggin parking lots.!!!!

  • wow los angeles looked awsome back then and no one blame hispanics the ones who ruined it were those damn koreans

  • haha i go to the school queers!!

  • This is so sad. I was watching the news this past week, and it was showing the new school that opened & it got me sick to get reminded how L.A. destoryed it's wonderful history. Just sad.

  • How could they not have restored this beautiful and historic building.

  • Well..it would be wonderful if they WOULD name the new learning center after Robert KEnnedy. I hope the place is worthy of his name.

  • How could "they" kill Bobby Kennedy. They dont care. Its my opinion "they" are trying to erradicate any memory of the Kennedys. I have had to teach my children about JFK..can you believe they didnt mention him at all on President's Day? The people that are now in power in this country, quite frankly, arnt the descendants of Americans. They dont view these things as part of THEIR history.

  • so sad! what an amazing building!

  • "It broke my heart."

    It broke my heart, too.

  • My Grandparents went there for their honeymoon in 1924

  • such a beautiful hotel...what a terrible shame they demolished it!

  • "The Ambaaaaaaaaaaasador Hotel!" :-P

    Great film.

  • Should have kept this one alive! Just stayed at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Montecito and it is the most breathtaking place we've ever been to...built in 1927......Oooozes history there and you can't feel that from a new building. So sad - wish I could have gone to the Ambassador but history is not that important to LA I guess.

  • In all fairness, the hotel was crumbling. Its construction method would have cost a fortune to restore . it was much cheaper and easier to tear it down.the neighborhood has also gone down hill since it was built.

  • Just stayed at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Montecito - that was built in 1927 and it could also be crumbling but it was so nice to be a part of the history that oozes when you are there. That place is gorgeous and it takes your breath away! Can't get these places back. Should have conserved this one! Really sad!

  • People will never EVER learn to live in their vision. That is the horrific and awful truth of mankind. The two great brothers were sent to channel that vision. They were murdered. No one else in the world ever come close to trying to bring the world to what it should be. We all think it but, no one else can bring it to the forefront of human conciousness again. Ever.

  • I always assumed LA did a better job of historical structure preservation but when I heard about this demolition I just crumbled. Good thing it was at least documented here. Imagine how many original photos & films are lingering out there somewhere? Thank God Marty Scorcese recreated in the film " The Aviator" That is a must buy!

  • NATURALLY, the kennedy family got their way. They saw that one incident as the only thing that ever happened at The Ambassador, or Cocoanut Grove. It was so selfless of them to demand the building be torn down.

The destruction of The Ambassador is one of the reasons I don't live in L.A. anymore. It became so routine, fantastic historic structures being erased, the once great city is just one strip mall and one beige stucco condo complex after another. It might as well be annexed by PHOENIX.

  • Los Angeles has so few historical sites. Aside from the most infamous night in it's history, I had my Senior Prom (perhaps in the very same Embassy Room) in 1977. I understand RFK's family for wanting to put the land to good use. It was a beautiful, meaningful landmark long before June 1968. Thanks for the memory.

  • L.A. is very good at destroying its historical structures.

  • @nighttrain1067 haha whats the point of building if not to destroy

  • how could they get rid of such an important part of history?

thanks for this video. may the ambassador live on in memory.

  • They saved the kitchen,i heard.

  • @vargas37 They packed a few pieces of the pantry (the steam tables, ice machines, etc) in shrink wrap and placed those piecies in a bin in a parking lot.
