I think the reason why Male Lions are seen in such high regard, is that they are all about protecting the family and fighting off danger, like a King should (Hence "king of the animal kingdom"). Whearas pretty much all other cats (male or female) spend most their life just trying to find the next meal and avoid confrontations as much as possible.

And Tiger vs Lion debate, a Siberian Tiger weighs about 600lb, so its alot bigger built, has a much more powerful jaw, Lion has no chance. A Bengal Tiger though is slightly more on a Lions level, and with Male lions aggression (some of the most aggressive cats out there) could defeat a Bengal.

Also Male Lions dont hunt, instead they specialise in fighting. They fight each other and they fight off threats to the pride, which includes the spotted hyena, which in fact has a stronger bite than the Jaguar. True however the hyena lacks a powerful feline body. But male lions can easily over power a leapord, and jaguars are slightly bigger than leapords. Dude, the answer to the second question is that the lionesses gives off pheromones from anal scent glands which lets the male lion know that she is in estrus or ready to mate(sex).
