Everyone knocks on Amy's version but her's is very subtle because she's not trying to glorify herself through hitting crazy notes and creating vibrato. We all know she can hit notes. Rather she humbles herself on her version to get the story across. That makes her a "worship" singer. We don't praise God to receive glory. We praise God to Glorify HIM!!

As a singer, I am heartily tired of this line of thinking. This girl is using the gift God gave her to minister. If her faith and the spirit moves her to decorate the melody, then praise God that she was given the talent to accomplish it. Nowhere in scripture does it say "Thou shalt not sing with vibrato, neither shall you ornament." I'm sorry you cant be more open to different ways of praising Him.

I didn't say she was a bad singer and wasn't worshiping God. In fact if you read I compliment her ability. The comment wasn't about this singer but it would be naive to assume that every Christian singer is the business only for God's Glory. And in general I like most versions of this song because well...it's actually a Christmas song about Christ. I just got irriated looking for versions of this song and constant rips on Amy Grant...even in this video.

Though some singers out there do (I wouldn't watch this if I didn't like it) I was explaining why Amy's version is soft and subtle.

Breath of Heaven was actually written by Chris Eaton and performed by Amy Grant. But I do like Amy's version too.

You can hear his original version on his CD. Amy loved it but was recording a Christmas CD at the time, so, with Chris Eaton's permission and blessing, she rewrote versus and kept the chorus and arrangement.

I really love Sara Groves' cover. The one thing I like about Rachael Lampa's cover is that she is a little closer to the age that Mary was when she was visited by the angel. Frankly, I think the song would be that much more meaningful if sung by a teenaged girl (who could really sing, of course!) because it would be more realistic. Just my opinion. :-)

1) This Mary showing her fear while she humbly accepts the great task given. She could have been stoned to death for this yet she goes on. That is pain, so Ms. Lampa should not sing w/ a stoic face, this is a song about Mary showing pain for once.

2) The song is asking for the help of God, the Holy Spirit to hold a person together...I don't know anyone who could ask for that w/o being in pain. I know I broke and cried as I asked for God to hold me together for the coming events of my life.
