  • All this GREAT music in ONLY 4 SHORT YEARS.......THE VERY BEST EVER..... nuff said

  • just listen and shut up, boneheads

  • boop boop bom bom boooom thanks leon.

  • Agree with the thank you Leon part. Great Bass

  • @LOLRestoShaman Tell it brother..That creep Steve Earle was talking about when he was in Mexico he got the word that TOWNES VAN ZANT had died..and it turned out to be Ronnie Van Zant and he said.."HE WAS SO RELIVED"..He called Skynyrd "NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF REDNECKS" and I thought "YOU FAT HEROIN JUNKIE BASTARD...RONNIE VAN ZANT WROTE MORE GOOD SONGS IN 4 SHORT YEARS THAN YOU AND THAT ALCOHOLIC TOWNES VAN ZANT DID IN A LIFE TIME"...Ronnie is up there with Hank WIlliams to me!

  • Speaking of Leon. This is HIS song, as in, he penned it. Right tony ?

  • Great tune.Softer side of Skynyrd. But this is definitely a great tune.

  • cool skynyrd song what cd is this song on?

  • @LOLRestoShaman ,

You're an ignorant asshole. The original Lynyrd Skynyrd (1973-1977) weren't racists. It was MCA that got them to put up the Rebel flag in the background. It was a gimmick and Ronnie Van Zant had nothing to do with it. Sweet Home Alabama criticized the Governor, it was sarcastic. That's why the backup singers sang "Boo, boo, boo" after that line. The slight against Neil Young was about Neil generalizing all southern men like you're doing. You're a fucking tool!

  • ...P.S.,

Sorry, should have read your entire post. Apparently the asshole was the guy you were replying to. I apologize brother. I just get worked up when people label the band as a bunch of ignorant rednecks when even "rednecks" aren't as ignorant as people would like to believe.

  • from studio in memphis, tenn.it is on skynyrd collectybles album(2cds ) It was ronnie, leon, allen, ed, gary, billy(on rhodes), artimus

  • @dbrobie1 Bob Burns on drums...Artimus didn't replace him until '75.

  • YES

  • Amazing pianop solo. Funny store Billy Powell was actually a rodie for Skynyrd, moving their equipment around from gig, to gig, untill someone said check out his intro for freebird, no one even knew he could play piano. And he has been with the band evr since. LOL I always thaught that to, Leon is one hell of a bass player, He has a amazing part in freebird, sorry dont know the time, and his playing in cry for the bad man is good to

  • cant get enough of this

  • @LOLRestoShaman I agree. One of the best rock bands ever. In the 1970's whilst everybody was not giving too hoots about what was going on around them Ronnie was writing about gun control in Saturday Night Special "throw em all to the bottom of the sea" the environment in All I can do is Write About it, "I can see the concrete slowly creepin" and Things Goin On about money being spent on the moon whilst people remained homeless...a smart man indeed and way ahead of his time RIP from Australia.

  • @wozjj You are right on the money man. Have you heard lend a helping hand? another great example of Skynyrd being ahead of their time

  • Comment removed

  • YES!

  • Did you know Leon is said to have written this song!

  • the 1 dislike is the cheatin' woman

  • Been a Skynyrd fan 30 years and played in a Skynyrd tribute band and never heard this great song. Thanks for uploading.

  • exactly!

  • and Leon's back-up vocals on just about every skynryd was under-rated by most, but ronnie and the boys knew it they loved him like family u could just tell....peace from the bluegrass :o)~

  • find me a bad lynyrd skynrd`s song,guitar solos,lyrics,"m willing to pay a MILLION DOLLAR for `em

  • @sandy63666 well you can keep your million, your not going to find anything that Ronnie and Skynynrd done that was bad.

  • most talented band ever-sure miss ronnie though

  • good song to wake up 2

  • Thank you Tony. Never heard this before.

  • This may not be the time or place ..but who of you out there remember the great and gifted Bobby Fuller..Bobby was murdered in L.A. when I was killing commies for mommy in Vietnam..His murder was never investigated..never gave mrs. Fuller one day of peace..I went through two tours of Nam and could not kill anyone anymore..That is what a loss like Skynyrd and Bobby does to our souls..Help me to get Bobby Fullers f death re-investigated and done right..we owe hiom that much

  • never heard skynyrd like this!! sweet sass for posting. BP on that viscious piano riff will never leave my cross-cut soul. ooooooh woman of mine!

  • Funky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the magnificent bass Leon. It just goes to shoe that there were never any passengers in this band, everybody was top rate in their own field....Ronnie made sure of that. RIP

  • I have a studio version of this song, and honestly the live version is almost better in my opinion

  • rare stuff

  • B"H It's got an Allman Bros. vibe, just awesome! Man these guys sure are missed!

  • Best American Band ever!

  • I have been a skynyrd fan since 1977 i agree with the mcgheefamily comment it's so awesome to hear something by my favorite band that i never heard before RIP Billy Powell, Allen Collins, Steve & Cassie Gaines & of course Ronnie Van Zant

  • Every now and then i find some songs i havent heard its like finding a new gem

  • A TRUE GENIUS

  • A TRUE GENIUS THEY BROKE THE MOLD WITH RONNIE!!!!!

  • Ronnie VanZant was a humble genius. He had a gift from God, and he made the most of it. I look forward to meeting him someday.

  • Shit - jazzy almost. Certainly the chords. Pretty different from them.

  • Love This.Heard it for the first time 2 months ago.Big Skynyrd fan,I want a women of mine! They do speak to the SOUL!

  • Great bass thanks Leon. RIP

  • @wozjj yeah sir!Leon could groove when he wasn't over-powered in the mix.

  • i love ronnie more then anything and always will

  • I have never heard this song before. Thought there was no bigger fan than me? Hearing something like this gives me WOOD! THANK YOU.

  • @TheBoots693 likeiwse bro..sure is refreshing!

  • @tenwords1 You know it's one of those tunes that even if you did'nt know it was Skynyrd, After the first set of opening cords, you would be saying "That sounds like Skynyrd." And as soon as Ronnie starts singing, you would say " HOLY SHIT! that is Skynyrd" And GOD help you if you had no info on this song because you would go insane trying to find it. What an Ass kicking though! Keep Rockin' Bro.

  • @TheBoots693 wat can i say...no one sound like Ronnie.....no band "SouthernRocked" like SKYNYRD!

sad to say....also ...without Ronnie in the "outfit" there ain't no Skynrd sound!!

  • @tenwords1 There were lots of em pal!

  • man ronnie was one of the best singers of all time to bad hes gone

  • collected literally all their musics...left this one out, anyway many thanks for the upload.

all I can say anymore is that no band can sing like Ronnie n play like the rest of the gang...

R.I.P for those who left earlier than expected...

  • @pichuan1 I agree bro. This is the greatest band of musicians to ever come off the face of the planet. You know you think you've heard every song until some rebel uploads something like this tune and it's exactly like finding burried treasure!

  • i love this song i listen 2 it everyday ty

  • UM hootnasty21 Billy Powell is still alive and kicken.... he's still sitten behind the keyboard for the SKYNYRD BAND... i dont usually remark to others comments I just come here to listen .. but this had to be brought to attention ...

  • @skynyrdhellhouse R.I.P.January 28, 2009 ---Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboardist Billy Powell died Wednesday morning (Jan. 28) at his condo in Orange Park, Fla., near Jacksonville, of an apparent heart attack.

Law enforcement authorities said the musician called 911 around 12:55 a.m. to report that he was having trouble breathing. Paramedics performed CPR, but Powell was pronounced dead shortly before 2 a.m.

  • @moundcitymohillbilly my son jeremy passed the same day and time billy powell did frpm lynyrd skynyrd the son of free bird and the piano player passed at the same time snt that strange

  • @aprilgriffin55 sorry to hear that

  • This is some dirty blues!! To hear this brings back memories of living below T'ville, Ga. I appreciate you lettin us hear this!! OutlawBluesman

  • Comment removed

  • For one minute and seven seconds Billy Powell is god!

  • billy powell was the best darn key board player rock n roll ever had and ever will have .r.ip. billy we miss you.

  • Billy's featured nicely on this one. Saw them twice around '76. Peace.

  • This is one of the those velvety smooth songs, like Aerosmith's Major Barbara, that just seem to come out of nowhere that the general public never hears.

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd was in my opinion was the BEST (Southern) Rock group to EVER take the stage...i was blessed enuf to see them twice (1975 &1976) just wishin i could remember more details about them(aww the good ol daze)...i do no they KICKED ASS the years that i saw them.....RONNIE VAN ZANT WAS THE MAN!!!!

  • Leon was a bad ass bass player!!!!

  • So tight, I never heard this before, Thanks soooo much Holy hell

  • @Imthekaiser lol yep not bad for live!! kick ass aint it!!!

  • awsome song!!! recorded at a radio station in 73 live....

  • Billy kicked the shit outta that keyboard! Show it who's boss man!

  • lyrics anyone...cant found it ...n dont understand it at all

  • Always liked this song a whole lot! Too bad most all rock radio has such a limited playlist and people miss hearing classics like this.

  • WMC studios Memphis, TN.

    Priceless.

  • Who's the lead guitarist on this song? Allen Collins?

  • No, Ed King. I guess this song is composed by Leon? I found a vinyl bootleg "100-Proof Blues" in 1992 including this brilliant song. Billy's Rhodes, Leon's bass and Ed's really awesome slide are something you just can't hear nowadays. And Ronnie of course.

  • hey tony,

Definitely! I love Ronnie's lyrics, as with every song. Ed, for some reason, doesn't like his slide solo. I think it's amazing!! Wino is a great tune. So is Junkie, kinda has the same vibe. I LOVE Preacher's Daughter and Lend a helping Hand! Great Stuff!!

  • What a raw edge this has ...wish more songs had been like this...Wino had that 60's acid sound to it....great stuff..

  • @TonyBeazley its got one heck of a groove going on it...just flat out jams!!!!!

  • As much as i have been a fan not sure i have ever heard this great sone before! Lovin' it!

  • Leon's got to be the most under-rated bassist ever

  • @Martiluk1

Leon Rules, Groovin nicely on this one.....

  • @Martiluk1 He was a beast.

  • damn billy rockin that fender rhodes! go billy!

  • Leon is credited with penning this song. Not bad Mr. Madhatter.

  • @twostrokeornill1 hell yeah!!!! you go thumper!!!

  • @TonyBeazley Thanx Tony. I'm a "nut" for the fine details. :)

  • @Bulldog32220,

I bet those tracks are spectacular! They were definitely at their career high before the crash. They were on fire!!

  • @ DOS666, I have the reissue of "One More From the Road" and it is AWESOME!! I also have the reissues of Pronounced, Second Helping, Nuthin Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, OMFTR, and Street Survivors. All with extra tracks! Amazing. "I need you"-Second Helping

    "On the hunt"-Nuthin Fancy

"T for Texas"- One more from the Road.

    Hope this was helpful!!

  • i have a live recording of one of there last shows b4 the plane crash and it is awesome

  • @bulldog32220 could you make me a copy of that show I would be very thankful if you would

  • This rare recording, as well as others are featured on Lynyrd Skynyrd Collectybles. This was recorded in Memphis in 1973. Skynyrd Collectybles features, besides this, pre-Second Helping versions of Call me the Breeze, Workin for Mca and Sweet Home Alabama. Love Billy's and Ed's solo in this one.

  • Hey man, can you recommend any other Skynard compilations I can get my hand's on?

See, I already have "The Essential Lynard Skynard", but songs like "I Need You", "On The Hunt", "T is For Texas" and this one are not on there. Appreciate the help!

  • originally recored at hell house and later recored at mephis

  • He didnt like handguns but had no problem with hunting and shotguns

  • wow!

  • Doesn't sound like it was recorded in 1973.

  • Hmmm, never heard this before. Wonder how many more like it out there.

  • if your a skynyrd fan ...where

    did this song come from

  • it was one of the songs recored at hell hosue but never relesed it was played a few times live

  • Travelin'Man

  • slide solo is comin´from outer space ED KING OUUUUUUUuuuYEAH

  • treday83 are you crazy johnny sounds nothing like ronnie, ronnie was the man there are some similarities but ronnie was way better look at what both of them have written ronnies stuff is way better

  • @drumaster999 , Well they both sound better than Donny.

Long Live Southern Rock and Roll !!

  • Really enjoyed hearing this one. Nice groove.

  • Amazing! A Skynyrd song I have never heard. And I can still say, I have never heard a Skynyrd song that I didn't like.

  • Hey Nascar

I got the 100 proof blues on ebay right now. check it out.

    "BOOTLEG SKYNYRD 100 PROOF BLUES"

NOW I CAN LISTEN TO IT ANYTIME AT THE RIGHT SPEED. GOTTA LOVE YOUTUBE!

  • Damn

I though I was the only one with this one!

: ) I got it on a vinyl album bootleg

(recorded too fast) you have to slow it down to hear it properly

"100 proof blues" is the name of the bootleg it's on.

    ROCK ON!

    whoo hoo

  • great song

  • It's funny how Ronnie and Johnny's voices sound so alike but when you hear Ronnie's you know it's him.

  • Really? Odd. I don't think they sound alike at all. There are similarities, of course. Accent and what-not. But, They don't strike me as being anywhere near what I would classify as "alike."

  • i cant listen to any skynyrd song with out ronnie on vocals when his voice isnt on the song it just dosent sound like true skynyrd music to me??? his voice complamented the band & vice versa!!!

truely a1of a kind sound they have when ronnie was on vocals johnny kills it for me

& many other old school skynyrd music fans!!!

  • @brownrider56 I agree to an extent, but Rickey Medlocke who played on the complete muscle shoals album and Steve Gaines who played on Street Survivors also sang a couple of Skynyrd tunes and they were great too

  • u know i get wat ur saying the original is the best i agree but i dont know anyone else who should get this gig but his blood brother. johnny is no ronnie but wen he sings free bird live i could hav sworn that was ronnie up there because johnny knows that he will never do that song as well as his brother and he always out tributes his brother when he is singing it and if there are TVs behind it always says R,I.P ronnie and a Confederate flag background

  • Yeah but they don't think the same way at all, for example Ronnie was against guns. You guess for Johnny..

So I don't think calling God & Guns a Lynyrd Skynyrd album, or even the others, is really respectful to the great Ronnie Van Zandt.

  • great tune, don't know why it was never released on a studio album.

  • I have this on a live CD somewhere.

  • lol Billy...what a goddamn legend! There's a kick-ass rock band forming in the heavens right now. Can't wait to get there.

  • A great song to listen when you're driving on the road!!!

Joe Arce - Skynyrd Band Photographer 87-95

  • good to see you fotogod...and oh, man,

I went to H.S. with Ed, and watched the rocket roar thru the 70's..kept in touch with AC, after the accident, and the Miami Project..good to hear these old tunes, and remember that the memories are still real..thanks for keeping the memories alive on film for us all..BP, was a musician of the highest caliber, able to ascend to the heavens, and still touch his toes on earth..loved him, his music, and the times that were.

  • It was Ed that gave me the nickname fotogod as in "Hey fotogod get your scrawny ass on the bus!" I remember Billy once told me that whenever his time came the first thing he was going to do when he reached heaven was kick Ronnie's ass for not moving to the back of the plane-then he was going to sit down and share a bud with Beethoven.I hope that's exactly what he's doing now.Hope to see him again someday further on up the road.

  • I would bet all of my chips that IS what BP is doing. it makes his passing less painfull..I can see him loping thru the halls of heaven looking for "beef-oven" hope he lingers long pursuing his dream. For the rest of us,I am always amazed at how many younger afficianados there are of Skynyrd.they get wraped around the energy, and become such devoted fans. That mistress called music, she touches us all, & we are smitten. Am glad that you enjoyed time with them, & were brilliant enuff to know.

  • One of my favorite keyboard solos from the ,late ,Great ...Billy Powell he will be missed ! Thanks for posting this song

  • RIP Billy Powell...

  • Leon Wilkeson co-wrote this song, the other of two that he helped write (he also co-wrote Travelin' Man)

  • I can do this if you guys want a rough video of the guitarist... I like Gary's stuff.

  • I love this baby. I wish they'd done this one live...

  • one of the original jam bands before it was hip to be a jam band

  • No way that's Gary on slide...I'm not even sure it's Ed King though it's closer to his vibrato at spots....it's very "duane-esque".

  • the slide's got to be Ed. he did kindof play like that...

  • yeah that's got to be Ed.... Gary was a bit more of a mellower slide player

  • yea, for sure.

  • Garys slide is pure, sick, deadly evil here. Wow.

Good song, but not produced to the Tom Dowd standards of the usual Skynyrd releases.

This would have been polished and probably headlined the next album that was never made.

Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Yes the piano parts are fuckin insane !!!!

  • yeah its great aint it!!!!!! raw as you can get....LOVE IT!!!!

  • i love the opening phrase ed does on the slide solo, great tune

  • does anyone have live clip, would love to c it..

  • Tony-did the boys write this at hell house?

  • As a keyboard player I gotta tell ya,Billy may be the greatest rock keys man ever!!!Billy and Jon Lord(Deep Purple) are my favorites! Billy's solo is fucking sick! Way over the top,too cool, good to hear this on youtube!...PEACE

  • I'd never heard this song, thanks for posting it.

  • billy powell = best pianist ever

    allen/gary/ed = best guitarists

  • Go Leon! he was a blast to see and hear. what a cool song!

Really captures this era of Lynyrd Skynyrd nicely.

    Thanks for posting! ;)

  • Now thats a piano solo! What a band, all elite musicians!

  • It is on the Collectybles CD. Buy two because you will wear one out, I did.

  • This song was Co-written by the late GREAT Leon Wilkeson. Listen to the bass setting up the backbeat... very nice.

  • I love the guitar tone on this one.

  • The south is divided between Skynard men and Allman men....I like Skynard
