Mukhina was forced to retire just 2 weeks prior to the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. She was paralyzed after after she mistimed an element on FX and landed on her neck. She died in December of last year-2006. There are several tributes to this great champion right here on Youtube. :)
I am sorry I was not more specific. Yelena was reported to have died on December 22, 2002. The website "Find A Grave" has some photos, and brief bio on the late champion, as well as a place for tributes from her fans. :)

Olga was-for her time. Mukhina's era began in the late 1970's-after Korbut retired.
