If you aren't progressing & evolving you are becoming stagnant & you'll die...with that in mind I think competition is a good thing for Parkour, its another level where you can test yourself - after-all, competition is an obstacle in everyday life of which every single living organism on the planet must be ready for..whats more real than that? What is more problematic than the struggle to survive? That's why the competition side is important & will continue to gain importance.

A competition is an event, it has no emotion, no motive, no desire, no sentient ability within itself, either physical or mental. I used the squares on a sidewalk... or to practice vaults I used a bike rack or anything of that nature... look on google for groups or gyms in your area

for example.... JumpUtah is great if your in utah, they have jams every tuesday

night and classes at Arete' Gymnastics (found through google)

I ride flatland BMX and it you could apply the same philosophy there. No other company gives enough of a shit about these sports to promote them and show people what it's all about. If the best of the best in these disciplines choose to participate in these comps and help promote their sport, who are you to denigrate it?

Parkour was founded by the father of David Belle who designed it to be all about getting OUT of a place fast, efficient or in a very challenging way. Although the base is still the same, many traceurs now train to explore the limits of the body and mind within parkour as David Belle meant it. It doesn't always include getting from A to B.

Free running is more about exploring limits of the body and mind to make unique and almost impossible stunts rather than efficient moves.
