The worship of Shiva is in the form of Shivalingam. Shiva means God the Father and Lingam means symbol. In the beginning when king Vikramaditya established the first temple of Shiva at Somnath, the image was only of an oval shape diamond. Later on the concept of phallus got mixed in where the Yoni (vagina) and Linga (glans penis) are shown in it. What else can you expect from the body conscious corrupted minds? God is not a person but he has personality. But devotees humanise Him.

Hmmm... Heavenly God Father Shiva is not a person as depicted by the myths/scriptures/puranas. God is Jyothi (Light (btw, not the physical light made up of photons)). Shiva is just the name of God in Hinduism, just as other names like Allah SWT, Jehovah (Yaweh), etc.

Most of the stories/myths are symbolic. One need very open mind to see the true meaning behind it.
