  • The only good thing from England, British Rock.

  • This song was the reason I bought an SG

  • Who got Pete's guitar?

  • Entwistle is awesome!!!!

  • AWESOME

  • @BeatleStone And now Pete's a deaf millionaire pedophile. Who wins?

  • @fatheroflatus:

As long as u +ur silly channel are stuck in the shit of Linda Ronstadt +Procol Harum +an infantile mixture of pokemon +anime i have no worries about Pete Townshend.

He said he had investigated the internet for PROOFS ABOUT this criminal scene.

U also believe that Strauss-Kahn actually molested a room maid in New York?

We all know the dirty tricks of Sarcozy(son of Hungarian immigrants)who proposed the expulsion of 100.000 gypsies from France last year.

    Say: Insane in the head?

  • @MrSKINFLICK Indeed, you homepage befits your thinking and commenting.

In the head? Wrong, the entire body is affected at your end, luv..

  • we all remember when in the 90's Krist Novoselic from Nirvana tried to pull this one 3:39 of, and how he blew our minds and his own head!!!

  • @mierdadeyouculo That's a moment both me and my best friend will still bring up on occasion, give the occasion calls for talking about our high school days watching Nirvana.

  • It doesn't show The Ox once in the video.

  • Comment removed

  • @PvtParts111 Yes it does. It does it when he sings his part, and several other times

  • 4 people DON'T understand music ... !!!

  • i envey the people who was thire, come on woodstock 69. the WHO .BEST BAND EVER,,it makes me pissed .not been born til 75.

  • @MsChrissummerfield

I went to high school in the 1970's, graduated in '80. My art teacher was there for the whole festival, and said he had a lot of fun when he was there.

  • 1:51 The middle solo footage is clearly recycled footage from their performance of Sparks

  • This band have eve!rything.....best drummer ever , best bassman ever , killer guitarist , charismatic singer.....Live at Leeds is the best live album of all time! They was the best band at Woodstock,,,,,god bless The Who!!

  • @grosgras That's why The Who were such a great band. You'd wanna see all four of them cause they were more or less equally talented. Not a whole lot of other bands can say that.

  • @grosgras They were! They took to the stage and rocked out like no other band. Best band ever IMO.

  • @grosgras take it easy... at the same time there was also Led Zep ;)

  • this is called rock and roll kids..great music...go listen to your justin beiber

  • @BeatleStone

    Townsend: the perpetual asshole

  • nothin beats old 60s rock n roll

  • @poofythebassplayer21 except 2011 rock n roll

  • @poofythebassplayer21 This song is from the 50s! Eddie Cochran originally sings it!

  • This is just like a pure explosion of energy, I love the Who.

  • This is one of the songs when I was a kid that really got me into The Who and classic rock....so much greatness in just a few minutes!

  • @BeatleStone

That WAS Great to see .....I saw Pete whack Hoffman with his guitar at Anaheim Stadium (Angels) June 14,1970....I was sitting "in close" at shortstop. I think they used that schtick to perfection...Woodstock was probably Pete' s honest reaction though......That is number 2 on my all time favorite concert list....Pink Floyd @ The Hollywood Bowl is #1

  • i dont see what the big deal is, like someones already said, it was common to "steal" songs back then, especially forthe blues genre, most famous blues songs are just a collage blues riffs used by artists that stole from each other only record labels and sniffy people who cant share actually care about credits. besides comparing the who to led zeppelin shouldnt be done in any sense at all as doing so wont do anyone anygood, very different, but both very good bands. i lveo them both

  • @Bluvs28

Pete Townshend has said he hates The Who being even remotely compared to Led Zeppelin. He likes the individual members of Zeppelin as people, but doesn't like the band at all.

This statement is from an interview included on the Time-Life video called "The 70's: Have A Nice Decade."

  • everything a rock band does today THE WHO did it first

  • @BeatleStone Great Bucket list request ....

  • "I am an outsider of no man"

  • The Who and Peace! Perfect!

  • John's creepy voice ftw.

  • FRINGE RULES!!!! \../,

  • @BeatleStone

Also cannot die without hearing that damn Carnival of Light can't forget that man.

  • @SharkBoi3939, Thanks! No, his fingers weren't moving the way the sound was coming off that guitar. But I didn't know from where they got the clip.

  • @SharkBoi3939 It defenetly looks like Pete is playing something else. But how you know for sures?

  • @FanOfThings96 If you really, REALLY watch both videos you can see the same chords being played, and if you know how to play the guitar and know that song, you can see plain as day, that visual is definitely from "Sparks." It's the part towards the middle, about a minute before Pete drops to his knees.

I don't like that kind of edit, and what I hate about the Woodstock film itself is the constant split screen. But this is good footage anyway.

  • Im goin raise a fuss im goin raise a holer

  • @BeatleStone That had to be The Who's Greatest Hit !!!!!!!

  • Pete's guitar was retrieved immediately by a roadie. It can be seen on the bonus DVD of the 40th anniversary box, if you look closely enough in the darkness.

  • @DGolus, Thanks for that info. I'll have to watch that bonus DVD again. And I always wondered: was it collected by some fan, and available now on the web for $100,000.

  • @Parcival01 I'ts owned by Hard Rock Intl. - Google search 'Townshend's Woodstock Guitar Photos' and you'll see it in a glass case on display. Townshend tossed it into the photo pit and his roadie grabbed it right up. Cheers

  • @gbmastercodes, Man, look at what instrument he's holding. Pete is on Roger's left the whole thing. 0:49 - 0:52, what the fuck is that then? Spanner.

    Or r u trollin'? lol

  • This has "Sixties" written all over it - chaotic, messy, sweaty, full of life! I like this version as much as the "Live at Leeds" one.

  • 3 people have te summertime blues

  • Comment removed

  • John Entwistle in Boris the Spider voice - "No dice son you gotta work a' late"

    XD

  • @bobdy9988 im pretty sure thats pete

  • I used to roll joints and watchi this really high with friends, ahhh I wish those days would come back

  • what a shame that the world today doesnt look like that

  • the softest an announcer has ever annouced the Who's name

  • @71thewho chip monck

  • @71thewho He is just so amazed and stunned at what he just witnessed! hahaha

  • you guys are fucking retarded, take these online fights to a hardcore show or some shit and enjoy the godly powers of the who !

  • (2) I attempted and made eye contact with him. At that moment I thought he was going to destroy the guitar which he didn't...As he continued his cool act of slamming the guitar on the floor he walked again to the edge of the stage, made eye contact with me and gently tossed it into my out-stretched arms..The guitar was NOT immediately retrieved by a roadie nor is it sitting in a class case in a museum in Woodstock NY. I have it and was offered $30,000 for it 3 year ago..Not at this price...

  • @lestmbly

You can at least make a video of you holding it, showing us that you at least have something resembling the guitar. Right now I'm really skeptical, as I should be. Just let us see that you have something like the guitar.

  • @lestmbly lets see that guitar man.

  • @cms6795 NO

  • @lestmbly

No, looking at the footage at 5:17 the roadie holds the damn thing up with John's bass in his other hand.

  • @Lordvonsilly OK lets look at the footage @5:17..True he is holding Entwhistles bass n his left hand but the object n his right that he seems to be flicking and waving about is not a guitar,U fool..It's probably Daltry's microphone. There is no way n the world by judging the footage, that a roadie could have gone down n the photographers pit n retrieved the guitar that quickly, especially since he seems to be coming out of the direction of the back stage. Face it, I have the guitar

  • @lestmbly

Nope wrong again, he comes from the front of the stage. Also that guitar was auctioned off last year anyways.

  • @Lordvonsilly It's a mirage dude....hahaha, your eyes are playin' tricks on ya', causing you to see things only in the way you want to see them..hahahaha....And now the guitar was auctioned off? Hahahaha by who, the roadie? Hahahaha, did Pete get a cut?

  • @lestmbly that is definitely the guitar. I know a freaken SG when I see one. Just give it up.

  • @cms6795 Oh man aren't you keen, alert and observant..Wow, that is a 65 SG Special that the roadie is waving and flickering about between is two fingers..Haha, Yeah you do know a "freakin' SG when you see one",don't you? Yeah you're good. You've just exposed me for liar that I'am...geez...Now I got to run-away and not comment on You/Tube ever again..So now all that's left for me to do is to "Just give it up"...Hahaha, yeah right...bye

  • @cms6795 that lestmbly guy is the goof who says he owns the guitar - the who's OFFICIAL WEBSITE says otherwise

  • Comment removed

  • "Ladies and gentlemen... The Who." he says it like they aren't the most epic band of all time.

  • Smash yer guitar Pete! Smash yer guitar!

  • That creeps me out: "Ladies and gentlemen: The Who"....

  • I love it when Pete comes hopping out of the shadows at 2:58...check it out...By the way who got the guitar? I do...

  • @lestmbly THIS GUY IS A LIAR - TOWSHEND SENT A ROADIE TO GET THE GUITAR BACK - HE SAID SO HIMSELF.

  • @lestmbly

Oh you're so cool. You lie for something that obviously isn't true. You're so cool.

  • @MadnessOfMarmots Yes I 'am cool aren't I, whether I'm lying or not. Only in this case I 'am not...I have the guitar...

  • @lestmbly

Let's see a video of you holding it, then. I'm sure nobody believes you.

  • @MadnessOfMarmots If I showed you a video of me holding it, why would that convince you that its the actual guitar? It won't, you'd still call me a liar..I'll tell you the story...I was 16 y/o at the time. My father was a stage hand carpenter at Woodstock. I was allowed to watch the entire concert from the photographer's pit which was 4ft below and front of the stage so my father could keep an eye on me..As Pete walked to the edge of the stage and raised the guitar high above his head @ 4:24..

  • @MadnessOfMarmots You know I'm not so sure the guy owns the guitar either, but your comment sounds really arrogant & presumptuous! Why does everybody think they can sit behind a computer screen & talk like they're a tough guy? You don't know for sure whether or not he has it & frankly if I was spoken to like this guy has been, I don't know that I'd post a pic or video either. I'd probably just say screw all of you I own one of the most famous guitars ever! Jealousy wont get ya anywhere!

  • @HonRevPTB

I'm not trying to be a tough guy it's just that I'm REALLY skeptical. And Yes, I would be extremely jealous. But with people like that you just can't tell if they are lying. I know this guy could be trying to tell the truth and then I would look extremely stupid, but there are probably a lot of people out there who say they own this guitar.

  • everyone fighting for the guitar

  • 4:37 so funny how literaly sounds and looks like the guitar its being murder

  • The riffs from 2:19 to 2:34 our just epic

  • The Who would have probally been the best part of woodstock

  • @pato0231 canned heat

  • @hamsterbass123 yeahhh true they were great

  • Watching the 67 Monterey Pop version, then this two years later really puts into perspective their stage presence. In 67 they seemed to be still dressed for the hippy movement. But by 69 they got that 70's hard rock look going on.

Anyway, enough about this. The Who kick ass.

  • Pure Energy.. Music today doesn't hold a Candle to this.

  • 3 morons disliked this.

  • How much would that mangled vintage Gibson that he threw out into the crowd be worth now? I bet it could've been repaired maybe.

  • @Jbeliski

i read in Pete's biography that he actually got the guitar back from one of the security dudes.

  • awesomeeee! god I love the who!

  • @sethillation i hope your joking

  • I WER BORN 2 F. YOUNG.....AWESOME ENERGY.

  • Ladies and gentleman...The Who!!!!

  • best Live Band Ever

  • @whoman561 No need to insert the word "Live".

  • hhaha the low part is funny

  • Pete's wind-milling and playing lead at the same time, amazing ; )..did they dub the 'live at leed's' version over this?..too lazy to investigate ; }

  • @celloprofundo

The LAL version nothing like this so, I guess not.

  • that's the best version of summertime blues I've ever heard

  • @Gilk53 i envy you

  • once again i'd like to travel in a time machine and watch them perform.

    wbrianj1

  • @Bluebrackets

    Ha same here

  • Sweet! One of the greatest in rock history....

  • ohn is the best bassest ever my goal as a muisitian is to be able the play the real me on bass

  • classic

  • I LOVE THIS BAND. BUT LETS BE REALLY REALLY HONEST. THEY SUCK SINCE KEITH MOON AND JOHN EINTWISTLE HAVE DIED. THEY WERE STILL A GREAT BAND WITH JOHN ON BASS. HE COVERED UP ZACKS RATHER BORING DRUMMING. BUT SINCE JOHN HAS DIED THEY HAVE LOST A HUGE AMOUNT OF POWER. AFTER THE SUPER BOWL WERE ZACK WAS PULLING KEITH MOON POSES WHILE PLAYING HIS BORING DRUMMING . I DON'T THINK I CAN WATCH THEM ANYMORE. PETE COULD OF FOUND A MORE POWERFUL DRUMMER THAN ZACK. THEIRS SO MANY DRUMMERS HE COULD OF USED.

  • @wap9 I might be inclined to disagree with you, but since you've typed your comments in all caps, you clearly must know what you're talking about.

  • @mysterysurf Very True. This guy knows what he's talking about. HeHeHe

  • @wap9 What an obnoxious post. I'll skip over criticizing your use of all caps since someone already got that. Zak (see how his name is spelled?) is not a Keith Moon impersonator. However, Keith Moon was involved in Zak's drum instruction in the mid to late 70s. Zak has his own style and uses things like accents very differently than Moon did. As a drummer, I've learned how to play more like Moon by watching Zak than just simply listening to Moon.

  • @wap9 The very best drummer that filled in for Keith Moon, was Simon Phillips

  • THAT is EXACTLY how to play that Rock and Roll!

Anyone else is just kidding themselves, in my opinion!!

  • Are they GREAT or what ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • I love John's Growl voice.

  • What can anyone say bad about The Who? John and Keith died too early. Wasn't their fault. That's about it. R.I.P. Moon the Loon and Thunderfingers

  • @Bizqit16 actually it was there fault they overdosed but they were and are the greatest band ever

  • @x0001234567 I didn't know John overdosed. I heard he dies with a hooker of a heartattack. And Keith dies from a prescription overdose for his A.D.D. Maybe I'm totally wrong

  • @Bizqit16 ya he died of a heartattack caused by cocaine.

  • @Bizqit16 Moony Died from overdose of pills that were supposed to stop him drinking

    Your right about John Though

  • i think every band that is named is great in it's own way.

  • The Beatles are the Beatles. The Stones, well... they are the Stones. Love them.

    The WHO? THE WHO!

  • Dear Powers that be,

Remaster and release 'THE WHO LIVE AT WOODSTOCK' at utmost haste, because it most certainly kicks ass.

    Love Steve

  • Just watch this...PURE RAW, AGRESSIVE, ENERGY!!!

And there's IDIOTS that think the Stones and, or Beatles were able to match, even surpass, this!???! ... Whether with songwriting (and DEFINITELY Live performance) ....

    it ALL = NOT!!!!!!

  • @negtype13 well, i hope your not implying that the beatles and the stones arent great bands. The Who are by far the greatest live band around, then rory gallagher. Anyway you could argue that the beatles were better songwriters than pete, even though he's great. The beatles were much more technically profficiant though, by far. Like, listen to all the time changes in happiness is a warm gun.

  • i don't like sound on this version. it sounds muffled. the original sound on the 1st vhs version is better. or watch it on vh1 classic

  • oh shit. the start is just so fucking awesome.

And then it just continues like in that way.

  • roger daltrey is the sexiest man ive ever seen.

this band is sexy and their music is fantastic i wish i was alive when this took place, i would have went

  • How come on the pinball wizard vid of woodstock it looks like he ends the show exactly how this video ends. It makes no sense.

  • THE most dangerous band EVER... makes guns and roses look like a day out at a catholic church fete.

  • Does anyone know where Pete's sg is right now?

    I'm so curious!

  • @Elm3224 he sold it at an aution awhile back.

  • This is the Gig that Rog found his voice and dont forget Great acts besides Jimi ..canned Heat , Richie Havens, C.S.N, Joe Cocker,, Sly Stone, Santana, Jefferson Airplane , Son many more ... Woodstock 69 was the Most Amazing festival ever created

  • Its a shame that if you ask someone about woodstock they say Jimi hendrix...

There was so many more memorable performances than just Jimi..

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic! so many great and taltented musicians preformed here and the who was greatt!

  • john and roegrs voices seem to blend so well on this song

  • The Who greatest live band.

  • @MrTrajan69 got to disagree Led Zeppelin

  • @xxrastamarleyxx The Who are known for their live performances not Led Zep. Led Zep will take the best songs from the best tours from the best shows from the best years and then remix them and overdubbed them and it takes Page two to three yrs to make a live album. The Who, well just listen to a live album recorded at ONE show! Kick ass

  • @MrTrajan69 Thats were your wrong, Just because they didnt play at huge concerts doesnt mean their a studio band. Obviously you have never seen a live Zep concert because when Page whips out the wah pedal and violin thing it blows away Townsands windmeel any day plus they are all around better musitians Live and in Studio.

  • @xxrastamarleyxx Daltrey acts like a man on stage and moves around. Your right about Plant, nobody can stand in one place longer than Plant. Nobody can twirl their hair better than Plant with their index finger. Nobody can snap their fingers with their palms in the air better than Plant. Nobody can scream Ooooh baaby while humping the mic stand stomping their feet like a little girl better than Plant and nobody wears little girls shirts better than Plant.

  • @xxrastamarleyxx I notice you didn't comment on Page taking 15 yrs of poor live recordings from the best shows and mixing them and over dubbing them and then releasing them after 3 yrs of cleaning them up, lol. The Who will release live albums from 1 show from 1 tour from 1 yr etc.

  • @xxrastamarleyxx I use to love Zep,until I found out how many songs they ripped off.The number is staggering..Even "Stairway To Heaven" was a rip off...

  • @lysyrg25 that doesnt take away jimmy page's tone, or their dynamics, or john bonham's rolling drums, or any of their other great sounds

  • @lysyrg25 Did you just get off the bus? .have you ever heard of the saying 'standing on the shoulders of giants' ? music is an evolution, do you think the blues just popped into muddy waters' head one day?..doesn't matter if they 'stole' it or not, who doesn't, it's what they did with it...zep did a lot for the old blues guys by turning people onto the blues..btw, the who kicked this songs ASS!

  • @celloprofundo It's alright calm down..I never compared the who to zep.The sad fact about zep is that they stole songs and credited to themselves. They were sued numerous time and settled out of court, for plagerism. They even had to change the credits on albums to add the person they stole from. And other songs they stole they never changed their credits from the 1s they stole. It's just just sad all around

  • @lysyrg25 old news..and a common practice..especially during the great blues explosion of the 60's and early seventies..the stones did a bunch of it..never implied you were comparing anything...but I will turn you on to Hot Tuna and Savoy Brown.

  • @lysyrg25 Actually, they stole songs and were sued. they waited 'till they made millions and then paying off the debt they owed was no big deal. it was on purpose.

  • @lzochiodo10 well still, the who are a better band over all, more enthusiasm, more creativity. just an amazing band, but i cant say that led zeppelin live at madison sq garden wasnt the sickest concert ive seen

  • @lysyrg25 Calm down, it was a common thing in blues/rock to do back then, don't your panties in a bunch. The tunes are good, which is all that should matter.

  • @TOaWhalio Not when it comes to jimmy page claiming he wrote the songs. So get your head outta ur ass

  • @lysyrg25 You clearly care an awful lot about who wrote what songs 40 years ago, let me grab you a tissue for those tears.

  • @TOaWhalio not really , just responding to your attacks. But,it is nice to know that you do have plenty of tissues to pass around. You must be well stocked.

  • @celloprofundo I asked Richie Blackmore where he got some of his riffs from and he said " Stole as much as I could ... " and got the idea to use keyboards from Vanilla Fudge, who praised him (and Deep Purple) for their originality! He was astounded they didn't realise. He did go on to say you eventually form your own style and copying only goes so far ... but yeah ... it's what they do with it.

  • @Kevinulla interesting..keith richards said the same thing..called it 'nicking' ; )..you absorb all this stuff, it foments in your sub-conscious. you kill all your inhibitions and it comes out flavored with your tastes..like plants animals evolving over time songs are hybrids..all I know is I can't write one ; }

  • @celloprofundo Haha ... me either ... I "nick" everything!

  • @Kevinulla .well, at least your honest ; )..it's harder to forgive when someone denies they're lying ; ) ..", I too, wrote stairway to heaven, I was busking in a london subway when jimmy page walked by and said, "nice tune there, matey, I like that chord progression"..next thing I know I'm hearing it on the radio, not a nickel in royalties..I SWEAR !" ; )

  • @celloprofundo Too funny dude! :)

  • @xxrastamarleyxx they cant touch them as songwriters.. and thats what counts.

  • @xxrastamarleyxx The Who are known for their live performances not Led Zep. Zep is a great studio band. The Who will record a live album and just release it. Zep will take the best song from the best tour from the best yrs and remix and remaster and overdubbed each song and it takes Page 2 to 3 yrs to do it. The Who will record 1 show and release it. Cheers

  • @MrTrajan69 And God created the bootleg to the live edit HTWWW like it's just a mixture of both performance concerts cited with some editing in sound quality because the boot was not optimal, you just have to check youtube is your friend, your comment it's just fucking stupid about Page...You can also ask you the same question about the many live videos of The Who put on sale on the market;)

  • @MrTrajan69 - The greatest band, period.

  • @MrTrajan69 ---dont sell them short---greatest band period!

  • diff. time slots but ya idk if better than hendrix but maybe , if not more fluental out there and more crisp

  • Tell me your not trying to put eddie in the same catagory as Hendrix, Page, Townsand, Alvan Lee of ten years after. Eddie had enormouse technical devices to make him seem special but no guitarist and I do mean NO Guitarist in rock history is like Jimi Hendrix.

  • EnorMOUSE techncal devices? Lemme tell you something; Eddies guitar style defined the eletric guitar in the '70's. He is herald by many to be one of the best guitarists in the 20th century, and was resposible for the guitar virtuoso movement in the late 70's to the 80's.

I'm pretty sure Eddie's accomplihments have earned him a spot with Hendrix, Clapton, Page, and Beck.

  • Um Excuse me But it was not the 70's bud. It was the 80's ok. And No he can't hold a candle to the legends. All he is is a clone.

  • @Ruraljohn Actually Van Halen's debut album was in the late 70's.

    USE THE GOOGLE!

And what do you mean he's a clone? There was no one, and I mean no one like Eddie before he came onto the hard rock scene. And after that, alot of heavy metal (not all but alot) guitarists copied Eddie's tapping technique.

Sure, Steve Hackett of Genesis was one of the first tappers, but Eddie pretty much made it his own technique.

BTW where do you get your claims as Eddie being a "clone" or not that great?

  • Eddie got the idea to tap from watching Jimmy play the "Heartbreaker" solo. Except Jimmy had Tone, where eddie's guitar sounded like shit. Way to much distortion, in my opinon. Eddie may have been influential but, everyone he inspired also had shit tone and wanky playing. Jeff Beck could kick Eddies ass on the guitar. Jeff is the greatest in my opinion, he can make people wonder what instrument he is playing. And he is mostly playing with his fingers.

  • I'm not into Van Halen but my brother insisted I watch himwhen I was extolling the virtues of Townshend, Hendrix, Page etc., and I have to say that anyone who dismisses him is an idiot, he's up there.

  • yeah, because he was so terrible. townshend is way better, hendrix just gets credit because he died so young.
