  • Well it doesn't matter if he destroys it, he has the picture of it still, the only one which he could later donate

  • if that is a good bye art, i think you gotta delete this video too.

  • make an art piece of al the art pieces that you have destroyed! THE MASTERPIECE

  • I stopped the video before I could see you destroy it lol. So much hard work!

  • Instead of destroying it, why dont you sell it and donate the funds to charity.......

  • "a little bit different" ...everything you do is different

  • u know u could donate your art to help org. or not waste food. just a thaught.... seems like such a waste. Sell them and donate to charities. You are gifted no question. your art is motivating!! Why not help others with your message??

  • Don't destroy it, send it to meeeee!!!!

  • 2:51 :O

  • well he has a video of the picture lol!!!! wich is betetr a picture or a video of how he made it and of the picture!!!!

  • I really like this idea. I like that even without the physical thing, you've got a record of the art, through your videos. It's not about the physical art, it's about the whole creative experience. I love it!

  • It makes me sad, when you destroy your art...

  • i llove your art but omg why waste like that...thats what bothers me

  • wonder if youll ever regret destoying every single one ... even the ones that one could keep very well ^^

  • Ninja at the end :o

  • where do you get your inspiration from? did youfinish an art school?

  • x rays lol

  • For a true goodbye art,

you should also destroy the video clips....

  • lol

  • lol..yeah..but then there's our memories too...

  • WOOOOOOOOOOW :0

  • i love the picture so much!!

  • This guy is insane

  • You can still see the paint from the Bruce Lee piece on his wall. XD

  • I'm not sure what the message is in the destruction of the piece.. impermanence? don't take it too seriously? All I'm getting from it is bravado. Many people wish they could make something that nice just once in their lives - but you do it so easily that you just throw it away.

  • maybe for him, he doesn't get satisfaction after finishing a piece, but the creation process instead. No need to keep the piece when you have pictures and video when it's gonna just clutter up the place. Especially since he does so many :)

  • y do you destroy it wen you are done...sell it

  • NOOOOOOOOO What's the point if your just going to destroy it! i'm so mad at you >=[

  • i know me too!

  • Phil is a process artist. The art itself is not the final piece, but the process used in creating it. Phil specializes in using obscure techniques and mediums, which makes him so well known and unique.

  • why?! ='[ tear

  • Nah.. once it's on the internet, you'll never get completely rid of it.

  • YOU ROCK MAN

  • U're Awesome man! u got an amazing imagination, great work, keep it up!

  • amazing

  • if i wear u i will sell it,coz am gonna buy it

  • man give it to me i hella enjoi your art

  • thats awesome how you destroyed everything, it shows that you just create things for your own entertainment, not for money or fame. i personally could never destroy my own work, possibly a sign?

  • u should like sell the things to ppl

  • Thank you. You know what's crackin. Man what do you do for cash? Burn it. Shred it. How do you eat?

  • why does he destroy the picture in the end? ... Didnt he say he destroys everything except for the actual picture!!! -.- looked pretty cool

  • You go through all that trouble just to destroy everything except the video of the process.

    You lost me.

Says me who can't even throw away old useless newspapers and stuff :P

  • i dont like how to destroyed your final piece ):

  • Wait...I thought you said you destroyed everything BUT the photograph...

  • ¬¬' Eu ainda mato esse cara, rs!!! Ele destroi td!!!

  • that shreading of the pic was retarded sry to say bu y would someone do that

  • SO beautiful!

  • i woulld never have the nerve to shred something i made. o--o

  • A lot of artists who create physical pieces tend to just destroy them after a photograph of it. Its solely dependent on the artist, its there piece so they can do what they like with it.

  • I agree. I do a lot of art for fun and normally i tear it up/ destroy it or if one of my friends wants to keep it i let them have it. After its done once, I dont want to do it again, I want to go on to bigger and better things.. something diff.

  • Good-bye to the Police State!

    5 stars for Peace!

  • why goodbye!!!??? WHY!!!????

  • I like how you really take time to do art but when your done you destroy it ha ha at least you have the vids of the art...

  • thats so sad you destroying your work like that.

  • by destroying the piece you made it immortal, not to shabby ;)

  • that fool jus went KYah!

  • Kind of a ironic filming yourself 'destroying' the art and placing the video online, it will now exist and be seen by more people than the foam or the image ever would. You have given this work nigh on eternal life, you hypocrite.. it looked good though.

  • God! Its great and all but why on earth do you destroy your work?!?!?? It just doesn't seem right when your so talented..

  • it hurts me to see something so beautiful destroyed.

  • hey! i wanted that :(

  • Why don't you keep it or sell it ?

  • the cake is a lie

  • wats the point of making something if u dont keep it? so now u get to go around saying "hey i made this really brilliant thing but i completly destroted it" so much for getn an exibit in a museum

  • It's to say my art isn't special, everyone can do something, just get off your ass and do it. When we idolize art and artists we're missing the point. The point is viewing things differently, the point is being creative, the point is communicating visually, the point isn't quite any of those things, but they're all fingers pointing in the right direction.

  • It hurt to watch that get shredded!

But at least it's one of a kind now :]

  • LOL!!! haha i just kicked it

  • it would go against everything that makes his art so great if he kept it or sold it. there are millions of people that can draw a picture, but it is the message and the process that puts the real message and power into a work of art. So, in the end no matter how many pieces he rips it into, the art isn't destroyed.

  • this kat Phil is effin brilliant.. if your comment is genuine, i honestly pity you.

Please.. PLEASE.. go back to whatever school &/or teachers that have attempted to educate you and let them know they've failed and should try again..

  • ahhh people would die to have that kinda talent and you just totally destroyed it!!!you're amazing though

  • dude i would pay money for that!

  • A. Stumble Upon is awesome. B. this kid is obviously guided by the hand of God physically and mentally.....i have never seen such creativity and could never even fathom it.

  • god doesn't exist

  • You don't exist!

  • Your face doesn't exist!

  • Nothing exists, not including everything!

  • i look at you people and the arguement you just had and came to the conclusion that you are one of the reasons society is declining.

  • Existence is relative, that's why i can eat imaginary cake.

    It's moist and delicious.

  • oh noes

  • Why doesn't he like sell them and then donate the money?

  • My ten year old sister wants to know "why do you destroy such wonderful pictures." lol

    lol

    I echo her sentiments.

  • To show you that it's the learning experience, and the creative moments that are the most important. The process of building and creating an artificial life.

    Not the actual piece itself.

That's just physical proof, which Phil is trying to prove has little importance when compared to the experience of creating and building a world, or at least a piece of it...

    ;]

  • I hurt every time I watch you destroy one of your pieces. :(. They're wonderful though.

  • you should sell your art

  • dude thts soo badass

  • You are a GENIOUS!!!!

  • dude

i was crying inside when you killed your art

    haha

  • lol what of someone finds that in their own x ray

  • HEY PHIL!

make a portrait of DITA VON TEESE!

i know it would ocme out awesome! :D

  • lol, how cud it turn out that well?!?!?!

  • Y would you kick the poor thing.lol

    Good work man.

  • thats a good shreder...

  • i would have paid like 120 bucks for it

  • u r an amazing artist

  • "oh no please dont do that!its so beautyfull!blablabla"lol! Just a pretensious....

  • Ah,

if you didn't want it anymore

    had it given away!

  • But the whole POINT is that he destroyed it! The ultimate embodiment of doing Art only for its own sake.

  • I knów !

but the t-shirt of Saddam, he gave them away too!

    so why not that!

  • ahhhhh

  • DOPEEE

  • DUDE you can see the Bruce Lee picture in the backround

  • Phil, maybe you've already been asked.. but what sort of film and lighting was used for the image to be captured through the sand box? and I'll guess that the type of light used, couldn't push through foamcore board, and the sand was jsut used for grain effect?

  • why do you throw it out? keep it

  • omg you are a real artist dude do you make your mony with this ? i will buy your stuff if u sell some

  • he usually destorys his goodbye art....hence the name goodbye art

  • Noooooooooooooooooo but dude u r AWESOME~~~~~

  • love the art and the videos!

i think it would be cool if one of these times after you destroyed a picture you took what was left of it and made another. (ex. the scraps from this, the burnt matches from the jimi hendrix piece, etc.)

maybe one month the theme for goodbye art could be recycle or reusing...

  • so that was an xray right? that is so cool. how did you ever think of that.

  • NOOOOOO! good god! Someone would have paid for that! Love your work but damn I can understand throwing away the foam and sand part but the picture too?!

  • actually let me rephrase what i just said... I know why ya threw it away.... it's not about making an income from what you do it's more about doing what you do because you enjoy it but damn...

  • oops i thumbs downed that on accident :0, srry i agree

  • oh my good i can belivet how you cold put away your work!!!

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • NOOOOOOOOO

  • why in the hell would you do that!!!!! it was so good

  • ahh i don't see how you could ever do this. i would go crazy.

you are an amazing artist and you are much better then a lot of what i've seen.

  • Wow. That is amazing. How do you feel when you do that to yo--- NOOOOO ....

I just got to the part where you shredded the picture. WHY? It didn't have to be this way...

    :-)

    Whew. emotional.

    ~Trav

  • you know you could have selled that for alot oif money my your kinda crazy

  • isnt there some resemblence towards cutting a person's photo?

  • i'm with bigobriener; so much for sustainability in the arts... all i see is waste.

anyone ever heard of vik muniz? if you like this guy then you would like him better.

  • thank you my friend, a nice fellow sencible species of human.. i love you

  • oh my god, did you see this blokes art videos, like oll of them? they are all bloody amazing, and done in such artistic ways....THEN THE CUNT DISTROYS THEM.. Id eat my familys legs in front of a news crew just to get my hands on his work. Some please e-mail him to stop distroying everthing, he could make bomb (fortune) with this stuff.

  • maybe he's just doing this for fun

  • fun yes...still a waste my friend

  • everbody, meet bigobriener; yet another weird and whacky youtuber...

  • and proud of it :)

  • not everyone does art for money you idiot

  • ''not everyone does blah blah blah....'' SHUT UP. all im saying is if you can make a living from what ya love doing, why not do it!!!

cop on to life ya dope

  • u rock, would u sold the shred' pieces?

  • Now you should destroy this video and all copies, everybody who's ever watched it and ultimatly commit suicide. Goodbye Art!

  • I would love if you sold the original xrays.

  • wow that was an amazing piece of art and to so u destroy it is to me complete stupidity..

Why do such a thing to a graet piece of art like that? Think about it what would happen to da vinci if he destroyed his work what would happen to all the great artist if they did that?

  • It's alright because its not forgotten. This video is almost greater art than the finished product, because not only do we see the final piece, but we also see him creating it.

  • man...that literally hurt my heart to see that destroyed =(

  • why destoy all the art

i draw and find it so diificlut to destroy something i invested so much time in

    but it amazing anyway

  • If it's on video, it ain't been destroyed . . . The video's the "art."

  • Why destroy something so beautiful?

  • do u like to destroy ur amazing work

  • does it hurt whenever you destroy a piece of art like that

  • cool

  • WOW!!

    that picture was amazing!!

    That was awsome.

  • Goddamn that picture was awesome.

  • Wow... ._. I want it. Lol! Gud Project!

  • "heh, i just kicked it"

  • wow, that last part was pretty painful to watch

    haha

you must have nerves of steel!

  • awsome work

  • r u a buddhist?

talk about living in the moment...

  • Did you use an x-ray to take the picture?

  • who is this a picture of?

  • will you marry me!?!?!?!?!

  • it is insanely sad that he threw something like that away. i would've payed a lot for it...

  • I know, I know its goodbye art but i think that i would be a dumpster diver for any of your art. I want that fome peace in my house its a work of art in its own right. I would think that some artists would stop at the fome part but not you. You went one step further and made something more creative and more valuable because of it.(not that the thing that you first made is not valuable). If i ever get really rich you will to :) wonderful suff man. keep it up!

  • Why do you get rid of your art? It is so beautiful! I know you are calling it "Goodbye Art" so that is part of it but maybe you should rethink that. I know art and you have talent.

  • Hey the "goodbye" part is pretty cool but you cheated! lol Well you kept the photo, which essentially is a piece of the art in some sense right :)

  • i LOVE this one. =]]

  • MAKE ART OUT OF IT xD

    that wud b awesome

  • Why did you destroy it, please tell me you recycled it?!?! Why

  • wow i love almost everything you do. its a shame that its all good bye

  • Best artist EVAR!

    DO WANT!

  • I hate good byes

    \

  • but why?, whats ure idear with this whole goodbye art ... i don't understand the reason.

but this is bloody awsome, such a beautiful picture.... just amazing..

  • Are you going to delete all copies of this video with this image on it?

  • WHY did you do that? why did you get rid of it??? your crazy. that was amazing.

  • why do u do this

  • great things are the things that existed not existing

  • Y did u destroy it, it was beautiful

  • So young, and so talented.

  • Next time, you should probably unplug the shredder before you start sticking your fingers in it...

  • Perhaps it is a way to rebel against our indoctrination into the religion of capitalism. Or perhaps it is a way to cope with people telling him how great he is. I think it is a great idea because he can explore and hopefully better enjoy the creative process without as much concern for criticism.

  • People in general have trouble letting go of things, especially things they made themselves, so it's just an excercise to help you learn to get rid of things. It's part of the buddhist belief, helps to remedy OCD and it just makes you feel better :D

  • you are absolutly amazing!

  • i just can't understand... where is the sense in it. art... it's a big part of my life, and i feel bad when i destroy one of my works

but, still, i don't see any sesne in destroying it

    ?

btw your art is great... rly, it's fascinating

  • do you ever regret destroying some of the things you do? i mean, yeah i know its "Goodbye Art" but, you know, has there ever been one you really didn't want to get rid of or have the heart to get rid of?

  • Will you all just be quiet? It's his own style of art. He can destroy it if he wants to.

But i do admit, it had to have been tough to throw it all away

  • Hey Phil,

My son and I love your art! I wish you didn't feel the need to destroy it though. S
