Hey, I'm in a band called Blue Shift, and we are greatly inspired by Pink Floyd and one day hope to achieve even a fraction of the success they had, and restore meaning back into music. If you could give our song 'Being/Salvation' a listen, a thumbs up and give us some feedback it'd be absolutely fantastic :) Thank you! youtube.com/watch?v=bfF72INA5nw
Back in highschool, my process of becoming a Floyd fan began. I'd been listening to The Wall and Dark Side, but Live At Pompei sealed the deal for me. That's when I really became hooked. It's always been one of the most fascinating things in music I've ever seen and heard. I just wish they'd release a soundtrack to this video.
i was wondering if syd barrett had any part in this song? he is the lead singer in most of the tracks, and i do know his overdose was in the process of the album, jugband blues is one of my favorite all-time floyd songs
@eugieteugiet IF YOU WANT THERE IS A VERSION OF SET THE CONTROLS WITH BARRETT.IT'S FROM DENMARK.COPENHAGEN.YEAR 1967.QUALITY IS EXTREMELY BAD,BUT IT'S PEARL.WE HAVEN'T MANY VERSIONS OF THIS SONG WITH BARRETT.I SUPPOSE IT IS ONLY LIVE VERSION WITH BARRETT.

I'm here to tell you these People are wrong- I found it. Using Google Earth -
I found God's Watermarks of the REAL Garden of Eden. Look at my Channel and see the short Video I made of it. I didn't point all of it out either- there are many things still hid for you to find. Come see !
@DanW900 Saw him do "The Wall" in Manchester,England.in May .Hes was awesome,he really was.Am not bragging ,but ive seen alot of bands over years.Everything from.Morrisey to Faith No More and while all, well mostly, great ,none come close to that as an experience, musically or visually....Nice to talk to you,Take care
HA! Love this band, loved David Gilmore. He helped the band become something other than organized chaos when Syd Barrett was falling apart. And in those days he was hot...
Classic drug music. The reality is a lot of people got into Pink Floyd and lot of different/experimental music in general because they experimented with Psychedelics and Weed. Music does sound better in an altered state, it opens you up. But Floyd sound great sober as well.
There really is something special about Pink Floyd, even from the early days of 'Emily' and' Arnold Layne' there are other bands that i adore but none can equal the Floyd.
@keefyd5 dude...there were lots of experimental and even more groundbreaking bands by 1968...not even mentioning the german scene....just that the floyd were and are more commercial, thats about it, they were awesome though
i've never taken drugs. which i'm proud of. but i'd love to hear some experiences of people on drugs, and listening to this song. Any good stories anyone?
@ArtOfRuin75 the best experience is when you talk to your inner self, to your spirit (which is connected to the whole universe). I've dreamed the phone number of an ex for which I had bad karma, so the next day I've called her and told her I'm sorry and my life became much better.

The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.
Listen beginning @ 5:23 - Hmm..... This was done way before the group Boston recorded Longtime/Foreplay, Could Boston have maybe gotten a few ideas from this Floyd tune?
and 40 years later, I still know the lyrics ! it's a bit strange, we were young and beautiful, we were full of hopes... what's happened to us ? life and now death... Syd and Rick are already gone... F... shit !
Duudeee, las letras basadas en el libro de I Ching son de la canción Chapter 24 del disco The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (canción que fue compuesta por Syd). La letra de Set the Controls... es de Roger.
Had two Pink Floyd posters, one was from this recording the other was the dark side cover...they were in my room in every house i was living in for nearly 20 years! from primary school to my student years, from Greece to England!
The lyrics are partly borrowed from some Chinese poems apparently.
I love this song, the droning guitars, the chanting vocals and the hypnotising timpani create a really well balanced piece of experimental music. It's partially sad that they didn't pull this kind of experimentation through in their later work. Of course I love their later work and it is by no means standard, especially at the time, but it feels as though the band never fully evolved.

with two simple lines of instruments and amazing vocals reciting the meaningful lyrics...Just imagine how creative these guys were...I wish we have them forever...Coz i dont expect ppl to come up with such good music anymore...Pink floyd til I die...
I appreciate the shit they didn't even when they weren't on drugs too (dark side, meddle, the wall). It wasn't as self-indulgent, and songwriting and song structure became much more important - greatly written, timeless songs.
I love this song so much. The eery bassline is perfect. They are so ahead of their time. I know they didn't do a lot of drugs and whatnot, but their music is very enjoyable while on mushrooms :p
@paganpusher I wasn't ranting, I was commenting on how some of the particularly pretentious posts that glorified drug use were making me cringe. the fact that you are walking around claiming you know what the band would say indicates to me that you truly are an arrogant c*nt! anyway, i'll just be quiet now.
Like the poetry written in the Li Dynasty, where some of the lyrics are borrowed from. this simple but extremely effective piece of music is timeless - Yea. Prog Rock
I've always enjoyed bands who test the limits of their minds. This band was on drugs during the entire process of this song.. and all songs during this era. I'd love to know what you take for a headache every fucking day at work or how much sugar you dump into your coffee in the morning? What do you define as a drug?
Clearly a lot of (U.S) west coast (Airplane etc) in there, other (early) tracks hint at the Who perhaps. Love this stuff, though in general I prefer later Floyd, having said that the Dark Side of the Moon era version of 'Careful with that Axe Eugene' (here on YouTube) is bloody great.. I do wonder though how music history may have differed if Syd had stuck around..
I've enjoyed this music with and without drugs. The experienced that walk among us can still get that jittery feeling when we hear this, without the influence of any mind altering substance.
They called them the band of the future, and they are, we are talkin about the 60s and 70s and today they still reign over the world with Dark Side and other amazin records, that's why it's called Progressive Rock!
and so, I discovered another side of my favourite bad
