where wud b a good place to install the turbo.. i kno the space on the rx8 is very limited, and on your other vid you had it right nex to the exhaust manifold and on other videos they have it where the stock battery is located... im lost lol
to all the nay sayers the mpg on turbo isnt bad mpg on any car is bad if your goin 85mph every where you go try it for yourself, also forced induction is exactly what it is forced induction neither one is safe at crazy boost levels, unless built for it. last but not least i cant wait to turbo my 05 RX-8^_^
Trannical a friend of mine just bought an RX-8 I told him he should boost it. I suggested a 13b fd swap but he said its pricey. How is that possible I figured all rotaries were the same? Anywho I have no knowledge of the rotoary obviously u do. Also will the FD Turbo Manifolds work on the 8 motor? thx and Very nice car.
No, they are not the same. They are only the same in the basic design, but in terms of how they are fitted into a chassis and HOW they are managed and make power, they are different.
And no, and FD manifold will not fit nor work. The REW uses peripheral exit exhaust ports, the MSP uses side exit exhaust ports.
@Buchloe84 are you insane?? do you know the weight difference between an rb26 and a rotary in a rex8? the front end will be too heavy, handling will suffer and itll be crap. fast in a straight line but like a muscle cars around corners.... its all about getting a 3 rotor racing engine in one of these. with turbo.
This is so gay. You really think a car can get 5mpg on the road? I have a boosted car and it gets 41 MPG, more than stock. What matters is your air fuel ratios while driving down the road, cruising. When you are racing, your fuel economy is shit no matter what, so there is really no concern there. Fuck the 5mpg, that's not gonna happen when your cruising.
@KPKonliner Are you one of those people who think superchargers produce a softer boost that is less harmful to an engine? Pumping air into an engine is pumping air. The engine doesn't give two craps about it coming from a SC vs TC.
@KPKonliner BMW, Rolls-Royce, VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, Mini, Renault, Bentley, Fiat, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, New Mclaren and others use turbocharger. New E-class is not available with supercharger, bad example. If properly designed and installed, turbo is no more risky than a supercharger. Some people prefer supercharger for simplicity and linear power, but power potential is less than that of a turbo.
i thought turbos are not ideal for the renesis because of the back pressure caused by a turbine forcing 'crosstalk' between the rotors though the shared side center exhaust port.
I'd rather S/C only a Renesis, otherwise regular peri port rotaries are made for boost. Turbos are by far more efficient, S/C has parasitic losses thoughout the entire powerband.
I want to SC my rx8r3 but damn Petit wants 7k thats insane. I'll just keep it the way it is and maybe trade it in for the 2012 rx9 hopefully they will solve the HP/TQ problem the renesis has.
if you want to boost more than 15 psi you need to do the porting on the housing once you do that trust me you will see a big different on your whp i own one 04 and is my everyday car and is been great.
@quillero20 Most people who run 16 psi run it with stock engines. Intake porting is useless. They're already oversized. Exhaust porting is where you want it, but the coolant jackets are very close. So you're limited in what you can do.
well i don't know much bout this cars i'm just talking about mine but then what you have to do to the car so you can boost 15+ pounds that's what i'm boosting and suposely they just port the engine unless they did something else and charge me more than waht it is ??
Have where that make let exactly and cost what it you of price? in the Germany knows itself no therewith from. At least I know no and I would like unconditionally in mean incorporate.
I am running a GReddy turbo kit with 650cc secondary's, GReddy elec boost controller, decatted exhaust. I have ordered my GARRETT GR3071R through MM some months ago ... should have it soon. Have the Interceptor X, yukon coils, exedy clutch and AEM cold air intake waiting at home ... nice video ... can't wait to have mine fitted :-)
I'm not sure. I'd imagine that they're hard to work on because they're rare; thus, parts are harder to find. I do know that they get relatively poor gas mileage. They are powerful, however; the RX8's rotary engine gets ~220 hp from a 1.3 or a 1.6 liter engine, I can't remember which.
indeed, but ive seen some crazy power from unxepected engines like turbo volvo 4 bangers making 1K+ hp. i never see even tri turbo 3 rotor's making close to that sadly
You probably won't see a 2 rotor nor a 3 rotor hit 1'000 horses ever. The rotories adavantage on pistons is its light weight and can take more of pounding on the road that why there so successful at Lemans. Most of the these cars that hit 1000 horses( which is somewhat rare for the average street racer) have such a hard time with handling and torque. Rotories are very complicated to work on and can be expensive to fix if it breaks but there more durible. 1000 horses =4 rotor!
i'm sure a 5 rotor is possible but just what car would you put it in. people who don't have mazda will tend to stay away from a rotory even on a swap because of the complications with tuning and building the motor. There are a few people in the process of putting a 4 rotor in a (rx8 very few, you can almost buy a new gtr with the money you might spend doing a 4 rotor 40k plus) Just about all of them are using a Kiwi setup just to get that to fit in an rx8. I can't imagine a setup 4 a 5 rotor!!!
rotarys have np reving up to nine, hell you can take that thing to the max. But the only problem is youur hurt your tranny. the engine can take it np but the tranny.....is another story.
lol don't get me wrong bud, that is one beautiful car, I actually had to look for this vid because I saw another and thought wow that thing is pretty, I dont even particularly like r8's, I love rotaries, but I just find it funny how they can have SO much BHP, and NO torque whatsoever, it must feel funny, I'm used to riding in diesels, and they have a TON of tourque, but NO BHP.
240ftlbs is nothing to sneeze at in that car... tq is mainly used for initial launching, not so much important once the car is rolling -> 304whp is more then an ls1 camaro/trans am will put down.
once you get the boost controller set up properly, let me know if u gain your expected 30rwhp. sick fucking car though and i'm so interested in doing up the renisis engine so if your get the extra 30 out i'll be super impressed
It took one guy a day to do under 2 jack stands. That's for the turbo install, upgrading the fuel injectors, a bit of impromptu custom fabrication (I decided to do the air pump delete among other things). The time for my install was lengthened because I was missing hardware and had to run to the store several times (that day and the next). The upgraded turbo is $1600, the fuel injectors (650cc) are $60 for a pair. The Int-X needed to be retuned almost from scratch.
Wow at last i see the upgraded turbo i been looking foward to this. Where in florida was your dyno? i live in miami. I need to install my turbo kit but its so much money lol.. soon though..
This car will definitely make mid to high 300whp on pump gas. it's just a matter of getting all the tuning squared away.
