The Romans were used to the people of Scotland's battle tactics, the Scots knew their land very very well, and the Romans failed miserably to conquer Scotland, the Romans called the Scots as "Picts" - because of their blue tattoos in battle and they called the land of Scotland as "Caledonia" and Ireland as "Hibernia".

@3tangle3 now just called "Ireland" -from the Irish "Eire", not Scotland. All a bit confusing, but then history is. I suppose the present is as well...maybe even more confusing than the future.
@3tangle3 It's the other way around, there is no evidence that any major number of people came from Ulster to Scotland/Caledonia beyond Columba and a few of his missionaries after he was exiled from Ireland, so he came to Scotland at the Isle of Iona, and set up his Christian monastery to preach to the early Scots.
That's why all the evidence points to Dál Riata having always been part of Scotland/Caledonia and migration went 'to' Antrim not 'from', even the capital, Dunadd, was in Scotland,
@segano1 Scotti were originally from Ireland (the Romans couldn't really make their mind up over whether they'd call Ireland Hibernia or Scotia - they called Scotland Caledonia). Later the Scotti (or "Scots" in English) settled in what's now western Scotland & according to legend they took over/united with the Picts (the original inhabitants of northern Scotland) to found the Kingdom of Alba - which seems to have adopted the name Scotland as far as English-speakers are concerned, while Ireland's
@robsargent4 Wrong! The Scots are by far and wide outright majority the Caledonian Pictish as attested in 'OGAP4' code found and recorded all over Scotland over a period of 12 years (1996~2008).
'Scotti' is a word derived from 'Scythia' and has a Greek variation that was used on the people of Scotland only called 'Skoto' which meant 'Darkland', the ancient Greeks spoke of a (early Scot) Pictish Orcadian navy they feared.
@robsargent4 Also, Scotland's real name 'ALBA' is Pictish and is still used today in Scots-Gáidhlig, the name ALBA is the name of the old Pictish kingdom, even Irish records record in the Irish chronicles part called 'Annals of the four masters'.
Ireland's real name was 'Ierne' before 'Hibernia', the name 'Ireland' was imposed by pope Leo X in the 16th century.
There's no evidence that Irish people settled in Scotland before the Great Famine of Ireland that took place nearly a 1000 yrs later.
@robsargent4 So no, you're wrong, most Irish or Plastic Paddies have the same views that you do that are re-iterated over and over and I've heard it all before but they're fooled by Papist lies and Irish revisionism from the 1800s, particularly the Irish Gaelic revival period where Irish culture was invented in the 19th century based on Scottish culture, as the Irish lost their true culture after Pope Adrian IV sold Ireland to Henry II of England, the Gaelic revival took place from 1890~1921.
Fine song from Matt. Like many others, I really only heard The Two Heided Man album. But then thats the wonder of YouTube. In amongst the rubbish is some real gems like this.

A great song
......the line "with a kilt and a big claymore" is historically inaccurate however. Kilts were not worn by highlanders until the late 16th century and claymores were not invented until around 1500.

England and Wales were the only lands nearby that were conquered by the Romans and named as
"Britannia" - an extended province of Rome.
Scotland has never truly been conquered.

@3tangle3 'Scotti' isn't Irish and isn't a tribe either,
Scotland is a completely different nation from Ireland.

Don't believe what you read on Wicky..
Claymore; claidheamh cùil, a back-sword with three blood grooves running down the Blade like the Basket Sword.
Claidheamh leathann, a broadsword; Claidheamh dà-làimh, a two-handed sword, properly Claidheamh mór.
AKA Claymore has been around since Willam the Lion's era and the name has moved along with time but basicly it means a Scottish Sword.
Anyway enjoy Matts haverin..
