I’m not the most socially aware individual. I don’t pay a lot of attention to “Feminist” issues. In my opinion, those of you who don’t like the music, song, video or message have consistently failed provide a compelling argument for that view. Just a suggestion :)
@wheresthemusic1 Did you really just refer to the African American community as "blacks"? As for your critique of the lead singer, dancers, choreography and video concept...I hadn't realized that we had been graced by the presence of someone who had been professionally trained in dance, voice AND film production/directing!
Women are not groped like that in the work place, its bullcrap. Men are serious about their careers and acting like that would get you arrested or fired.
But did anyone notice as an artist she sucks, the dancers suck, the dance moves suck, her lip sync is horrible. The concept is bullshit, its like blacks saying the white man holds them down bullshit too
@wheresthemusic1 here's the deal, oh angry individual.... since you brought up the parallel... take a look at where the African American community is as a whole in this country, even with a black man as commander in chief. Now almost 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation, the African-American community still struggles to recover from the repercussions of slavery, trying to achieve equal economical standing.
@wheresthemusic1 Well guess what pal... sexism is older than slavery. Sexism has existed since the beginning of mankind. You've just become to accustomed to accepting it as part of life, you don't notice that it happens everywhere, all the time.
Your anger is very revealing. Maybe you can take a look at this story from an alternate perspective. The best of your XY is yet to be accessed.
@wheresthemusic1 Seriously?! I almost don't feel like replying, because this is going to be like arguing with a bumper sticker; it's hard to have an intelligent conversation with someone whose abrupt, opinionated ejaculations are not based in reality. You are perfectly entitled to judge the music, dance, production- whatever. However, sexism exists, racism exists, oppression exists. It is manifested daily in the world. It happens in your world, no doubt, even if you are innocent or blind to it.

@MrANTIFEMINIST: if you take the time to listen to the message it's not about women complaining about being seen as sexy, it's the fact that a women can't be sexy without having to worry about a guy grabbing her or say some rude remark. And it's not that men are hating women now, but the men who do are only insecure because they are finally realizing that society no longer being considers them superior and afraid of seeing what a women is truly capable of doing.
@MrANTIFEMINIST- i think your mistaken that all men are starting to hate women. I think that the men who hate women are men who are insecure and unwilling to accept that women are men's equal. And as a woman, that is the most unsexy type of men.
I think Danielle looked beautiful, strong, and sexy- but above all i think her message was what stood out the most and that is what we should be focusing on.
so what if she's sexy?? that's not the point here. the point is her protest against the unnecessary objectification and dehumanization of women that we see in the media everyday. in no way is danielle's sex appeal in contradiction of that message. so she's hot! get over it. she's also an incredibly talented, eloquent, and empowered woman who's taking the industry by storm.
I bet you think the girls with duct tape over their mouths are sexy too?! Danielle isn't "sexy" in this video. Can't you see her flat boobs dude? They look nothing like "sexy" breasts. Sure she's beautiful, but "sexy?" Dude, can't you see you pissed off she is, especially when she let's out that last sledgehammer...bbbiiitttchchchch? What you mean is...'more and more men hate women because they are themselves...' I know it's scary, hang on buddy.
@MrANTIFEMINIST Hey dude - the song isn't railing against being sexy. The song is about the dehumanization and gratuitous sexualization of of women to sell unrelated crap. Check out the Killing Us Softly videos. It might help your perspective. But then again... from your username... maybe you're past any help? Hopefully I'm wrong. My friend Danielle is Killing in this video. The band is awesome... I have worked with her for years and have seen hints of this but not the full blown D-Lo. Whew... Man I love it.. Oh yea..
hey all- don't forget to listen to the song, again and again amidst all this hubbub....so we can sing our way out of the 'ground zero of the feminist revolution' that doggiebreath finds himself meandering aimlessly through. Also- the opposite of patriarchy is not matriarchy but sorority...it's just that until we digest what the patriarchy has created, understand even some of its layers, we will not ever be real soldiers of peace. Listen to the song.
@DB con't: There's really no way a woman can "be" in this world without people - including some women, and including some feminists - making it about them. This further dehumanizes women and guarantees that we cannot empower ourselves.
@dogbreath531 seriously dude. what is up with you? men have suffered nothing from feminism. if you really believe they have, i'm sure you also believe the white man has suffered from affirmative action, and that heterosexual marriages will suffer from the legalization of gay marriage - all of which is nonsense.
fairness is fairness. it really is that simple. i think i'm done engaging you now. there's nothing that will change your perspective when you're this closed off and threatened.
@DB continued: However, you need to realize that in many ways, women can't win: if a woman dresses "sexy", she is assumed to be playing into stereotypes and the desires of men. If a woman dresses modestly, the same - she's a "passive" religious woman or she's "dressing that way because her husband makes her."
@ DogBreath continued: If you happen to enjoy the image, fine. I believe it is the responsibility of feminists (especially those of us who do things like adorn ourselves with especially feminine attire, makeup, etc) to understand that we will naturally draw the eyes of men and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's human.
@ DogBreath continued: For some women, the way they dress is absolutely about the reactions their attire will get from men. But the point is that you - like many men - seem to not be able to take yourself out of the equation. It is possible for women to enjoy their bodies and dressing them to feel confident - FOR THEMSELVES.
@ DogBreath: First, sorry 'bout your halitosis, dude.
DogBreath, a lot of people have responded to you on here. Frankly, I'm not sure why so much time has been spent on this when it's really quite simple:
A woman can choose to show or not show her body in any way she wishes. I, for example, am a Muslim woman who covers her body and hair. Danielle, in the above video, dresses more provocatively - but still modestly by music video standards.
I happen to be privy to the 'story' behind the song. Danielle sings for parties to pay for the freedom to write her own music and to gain the resources to move Indie forward. she was booked for an orthodox jewish wedding where she was put in a cold, sterile holding tank for many hours until religious laws allowed her to take stage and sing. She wrapped herself in tablecloths to stay warm, so she was hidden when the male band members came in on break and said, "where's the bitch?"
Sometimes we have to imagine role reversal to digest the full implications of social patterns. In this video, danielle does so with humor, wit, and a bit of unapologetic joy and satisfaction that comes from empowered response and reaction. Maybe tho, you should learn more abut danielle's herstory, her actions working on behalf of others before you make your own assumptions....more in next post
@dogbreath531 Are you kidding? Do you KNOW Danielle? Let me assure you that this woman does not "pretend" about anything! She is a powerful and sexy woman who goes into meetings wearing sweats and a scrunchy in her undone hair. If she was about using her sex appeal to get ahead...trust me she could do it...but chooses not to. Maybe if you could see past her outfit...and how much you "enjoy it"...you'd see the bigger message here!
@dogbreath531 this song and video is about the gratuitous objectification and sexualization of women in media. how is danielle being gratuitous in this video? pink's video is satire. you do know what that means right? to make fun of something to prove a point...?
@lvrnpssng Don't you think it's like perpetrating violence just to show how bad violence is?
I don't mind Danielle being sexy etc (in fact I enjoy it) but she pretends to be something she's not. Why can't she just be upfront and refuse to pander to objectification? She seems hypocritical.
Personally I support the objectification of women as I see it as a form of resistance to feminism.
@dogbreath531 i don't think you're understanding the point behind the song, the message, or really the general idea behind feminism. danielle isn't protesting being sexy. by all means, there're a myriad ways in which a woman's own sexualization of the self can be used to make profound and powerful statements.
this song is about (for example) using a pair of tits to sell fishing wire, or plant fertilizer, hair gel, or anything else completely non-related to the woman and her body part(s).
@dogbreath531 there's a bigger message here that's not coming through to you. a video link that might help you gain more perspective is jean killborne's "killing us softly" lecture. i believe you can find it in the related videos here to the right. i do hope you check it out.
@lvrnpssng Thanks for that. I have watched it. Two things occur to me: 1) We are trapped in stereotypes; 2) stereotypes are used as a form of control. The problem is that we are unable to release ourselves from 'control' because we mostly exist within the stereotypes which trapped trap us.
This, I think, is why Danielle uses stereotypical persona in her video. Simply: she (or we) can't go beyond them - who would we be if we did? Certainly not who we are.
@lvrnpssng The problem for Danielle is that she has to use imagery she disagrees with as part of her protest. For me this 'objectification' furthers the campaign against feminism.
It is important for women, particularly young women, to be surrounded by this imagery (Danielle is helping with this!) so as to provide role models alternative to feminism.
This also enables a anti-feminist terminology for men: in everyday situations men refer to women as hotties, babes, bitches, hoes, hornbags etc.
@dogbreath531 you feel this video furthers the fight against feminism even when it's presented in satire with the tables being turned at the end? i really disagree. turning the tables really brings to light how messed up this situation is. i think it's so well done - aggressive, but with a tongue-in-cheek vibe. that little eyebrow raise/ smirk danielle gives at the end brings it all together too.
@dogbreath531 im totally confused here. how can you look at this and see anything but a feminist? you're saying her message is undermined by the fact that she's attractive? what would it take, then, for you to take a woman seriously?
also, i fail to see how this video enables men to use derogatory words towards women. she clearly states "who YOU calling bitch?" idk what message that sends to you, but to me its pretty damn clear.
@stephaniechamp Wouldn't take Danielle seriously, thats for sure.
The popularity of terms like 'bitch' and 'ho' (as descriptors for women) is a triumph for those who oppose feminism, the prevalence of those terms in popular culture helps to contain and negate feminism.
Sometimes seem to me that male teenagers use those terms more often than 'woman' or 'girl' and I support that.
Let Playboy offer Danielle a $million, she'd probably jump at the chance.
@dogbreath531 Wow. You get off on this, don’t you? You seem to really enjoy pushing buttons just to get a rise out of people. You must not have any strong, positive female role models in your life. If you did, you would surely be able to recognize and appreciate those qualities in Danielle. Oh and sorry to kill your hard on, but Danielle would never do Playboy in a million years...but maybe Black Queen magazine :p
@dogbreath531 also, i meant to address something you said earlier but got sidetracked - you said you support the objectification of women as you feel it furthers feminism. this makes me think you don't really understand the meaning of the word. objectification is the opposite of personification. objectification is the dehumanization of a human being. this is something you support? really?
@dogbreath531 you support male teens using 'bitch' and 'ho' more often than 'woman' or 'girl'? Is that correct? Would you then also support young women using, for example, 'dog' and 'dick' to address their male peers?
@lvrnpssng There is a imbalance - feminism has gone too far - so guys have to respond and so I see terms like 'bitch' 'ho' etc as being defensive. If young guys use them, this shows they are not defeated.
I can see the parallel between dehumanisation and objectification - its a good point. But are the 'role models' offered by Playboy and Hustler etc really dehumanised? Or do women (some women at least) find expression in them?
If it is dehumanising, then I am wrong, because that seems cruel.
To those who gave the "thumbs down" votes. Keep them coming...at least we know you're out there watching...and YOU are the reason that we are so passionate about our beliefs and our message. This music video is for...and because of...You! Maybe someday, you will have heard our words so many times...that you'll actually take notice and REALLY hear the message.
The two of you inspire me to no end. The more women we reach and empower...the more positive change we can bring into this world. This video is one giant step in the right direction!
I am a man, a feminist, an environmentalist, a student, and an artist, and I gotta say one thing: I LOVE this video! It is absolutely epic. When I watch it, I experience a whole range of emotions: anger, dismay, and disgust at the start, when the examples of patriarchy and misogyny are displayed, and then hope, triumph, and righteous joy when the women BUST IN, TAKE the stage, and give the men a dose of their own medicine. The song is amazing, too, both lyrically and musically. Thank you DLPM!
Strong strong message! Yes! "Who you callin b****?" It is SO important for people, especially women, to say NO to the wrong roles and outfits and for all of us to talk back to authority (a lot of Hollywood) when it is wrong! You go DLPM!
I can't understand why Danielle isn't known worldwide. This is seriously groundbreaking stuff. The two idiots who gave this video "thumbs down" are obviously threatened by the message here, of which they're very likely guilty of.
Keep it coming Danielle. The universe needs women like you. You're an outstanding role model and an extraordinary artist.
THAT IS SO STRONG!!! After watching a few times to get all the subtleties of this engaging and provocative video I just listened to the song. WOW!!! Great song. Great Band. You guys ROCK and I can't wait to see you live.
OK Danielle hope they realize it's their own tune you playing so that we will be treated more like humans. Wow! the world should see and hear this over and over again.
Alicia and Danilelle! I love this video and of course the music!!!!!!!! This is real artistry and master production and song actually has a real message. Keep Rockin
Do I love the video? I'm not really fond of videos in general, but the joy of this one is that it mirrors the message in the song; it's not just a bunch of flash art passing by on the screen.
But for you folks who think this is hot---DAMN, ya oughta see her LIVE!! The energy can't be beat!
Great song, great video, great riffs, transistions, and of course awesome vocals from Danielle! And I love how your songs always have a purpose or meaning. So you got one thumbs down, screw em! Late the hater hate, and waste his negative energy on himself!
This Rocks! It is about time we stop subjecting ourselves to this insidious behavior! kudos to you for bringing this sensitive subject to our attention! Matriarch
this video rocks, and doesnt stop - you sound and look better than ever - it's so well done that this is going to sky rocket you to wherever you want it to.....great job
this video rocks, and doesnt stop - you sound and look better than ever - it's so well done that this is going to sky rocket you to wherever you want it to.....great job
Dani & Alicia...Awesome Job! I am so proud of you...Keep going strong!! That's the only way... nobodys going to give you anything, we have to create our own dynasty and you're doing it.
Great job all the way around. I love the message, the vocals, the groove. This is gonna be fun to play live. Way to stalk the stage and command respect Danielle. Good luck with this project. It looks like everyone had a good time.
Ferocious, fearless, defiant, funny and funky. The only thing missing from this video is the money shot of Danielle writhing on a chair while a bucket of water drenches her from above. I just can never get enough of a shot like that. Is that bad?
So happy for you, Danielle! Your hard work and your passion for sharing the truth about women in our business is awe inspiring. Love you! Stay strong and thanks for doing this incredible job of spreading the "word" and the new reality.
ok- I am officially OBSESSED with this song. It's kind of like when I was a kid and wanted to sing "Girls just wanna have fun" again and again. My favorite line is- "we'll play along for a bit, wondering when we'll be treated more like human, less like ass, more like equal, less your bitch!" I downloaded this singer off of cdbaby last night and I feel like when I 'discovered' Tori Amos...only my husband likes this singer's voice much better! When are you guys touring? Can I be a groupie?
This song is my gushiest, wettest, milkiest dream. It makes me so happy to imagine women everywhere singing this song while they answer phones, eat ricecakes and shave their underarms, legs and pubic area. I can't get enough of it, and I especially can't stop watching the lead singer...where did she come from? Heaven?

Maybe if you could see past her outfit...and how much you "enjoy it"...you'd see the bigger message here!

@ipaiwoman Danielle wants it both ways: complaing about objectification and at the same time objectifying herself - just like Pink in Stupid Girls.
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 this song and video is about the gratuitous objectification and sexualization of women in media. how is danielle being gratuitous in this video? pink's video is satire. you do know what that means right? to make fun of something to prove a point...?
lvrnpssng 1 year ago
@lvrnpssng Don't you think it's like perpetrating violence just to show how bad violence is?
I don't mind Danielle being sexy etc (in fact I enjoy it) but she pretends to be something she's not. Why can't she just be upfront and refuse to pander to objectification? She seems hypocritical.
Personally I support the objectification of women as I see it as a form of resistance to feminism.
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 i don't think you're understanding the point behind the song, the message, or really the general idea behind feminism. danielle isn't protesting being sexy. by all means, there're a myriad ways in which a woman's own sexualization of the self can be used to make profound and powerful statements.
this song is about (for example) using a pair of tits to sell fishing wire, or plant fertilizer, hair gel, or anything else completely non-related to the woman and her body part(s).
lvrnpssng 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 there's a bigger message here that's not coming through to you. a video link that might help you gain more perspective is jean killborne's "killing us softly" lecture. i believe you can find it in the related videos here to the right. i do hope you check it out.
lvrnpssng 1 year ago
@lvrnpssng Thanks for that. I have watched it. Two things occur to me: 1) We are trapped in stereotypes; 2) stereotypes are used as a form of control. The problem is that we are unable to release ourselves from 'control' because we mostly exist within the stereotypes which trapped trap us.
This, I think, is why Danielle uses stereotypical persona in her video. Simply: she (or we) can't go beyond them - who would we be if we did? Certainly not who we are.
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@lvrnpssng The problem for Danielle is that she has to use imagery she disagrees with as part of her protest. For me this 'objectification' furthers the campaign against feminism.
It is important for women, particularly young women, to be surrounded by this imagery (Danielle is helping with this!) so as to provide role models alternative to feminism.
This also enables a anti-feminist terminology for men: in everyday situations men refer to women as hotties, babes, bitches, hoes, hornbags etc.
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 you feel this video furthers the fight against feminism even when it's presented in satire with the tables being turned at the end? i really disagree. turning the tables really brings to light how messed up this situation is. i think it's so well done - aggressive, but with a tongue-in-cheek vibe. that little eyebrow raise/ smirk danielle gives at the end brings it all together too.
lvrnpssng 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 im totally confused here. how can you look at this and see anything but a feminist? you're saying her message is undermined by the fact that she's attractive? what would it take, then, for you to take a woman seriously?
also, i fail to see how this video enables men to use derogatory words towards women. she clearly states "who YOU calling bitch?" idk what message that sends to you, but to me its pretty damn clear.
stephaniechamp 1 year ago
@stephaniechamp Wouldn't take Danielle seriously, thats for sure.
The popularity of terms like 'bitch' and 'ho' (as descriptors for women) is a triumph for those who oppose feminism, the prevalence of those terms in popular culture helps to contain and negate feminism.
Sometimes seem to me that male teenagers use those terms more often than 'woman' or 'girl' and I support that.
Let Playboy offer Danielle a $million, she'd probably jump at the chance.
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 Wow. You get off on this, don’t you? You seem to really enjoy pushing buttons just to get a rise out of people. You must not have any strong, positive female role models in your life. If you did, you would surely be able to recognize and appreciate those qualities in Danielle. Oh and sorry to kill your hard on, but Danielle would never do Playboy in a million years...but maybe Black Queen magazine :p
stephaniechamp 1 year ago
@stephaniechamp Not trying to push buttons - just explaining my position.
What's/where's Black Queen magazine?
dogbreath531 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 also, i meant to address something you said earlier but got sidetracked - you said you support the objectification of women as you feel it furthers feminism. this makes me think you don't really understand the meaning of the word. objectification is the opposite of personification. objectification is the dehumanization of a human being. this is something you support? really?
lvrnpssng 1 year ago
@dogbreath531 you support male teens using 'bitch' and 'ho' more often than 'woman' or 'girl'? Is that correct? Would you then also support young women using, for example, 'dog' and 'dick' to address their male peers?
lvrnpssng 1 year ago

Ferocious, fearless, defiant, funny and funky. The only thing missing from this video is the money shot of Danielle writhing on a chair while a bucket of water drenches her from above. I just can never get enough of a shot like that. Is that bad?

ok- I am officially OBSESSED with this song.

Heaven?
