  • wow. all i can say is wow!

    you are absolutely amazing.

  • wow being a trumpet player myself seeing something like this transposed on the spot is very impressive.

  • Ack...not having a Bb trumpet makes this horrendously difficult to play. I just found the fingerings with a Bb to be much more natural. Good on you for taking the challenge. Considering, you did a great job.

  • Chris, you are exceptionally talented! But why would you post this Haydn performance on YouTube playing on a "C" trumpet? The trills are clumsy, at best, and the intonation problems with the 3rd space open "c's" and open "e's" are too noticeable to experienced musicians. My recommendation to you would be to record the Haydn on your Schilke E-flat and replace this organ rendition with something you will be proud of and give you an opportunity to share with the public your true God given gifts.

  • @pulcinella55 Did you even read the info? It was last minute and all he had was his C. My recommendation to you would be to read before you comment.

  • I like your articulation. A lot like Maurice Andre.

  • Ok, Whats up with organ?

  • hahaha ah yes....the trills were interesting :)

Pretty amazing that you could play that confidently and sound that great when transposing at the last second!

Intonation was close to perfect as well.

  • Thanks for posting that video. you have the most beautiful and controlled tone. i am a trumpet player in only my third year and i hope i make it as far as you did. Thank you! you are a real trumpet master.

  • Nice! I noticed that you tongued some licks where I usually hear it slurred (such as in the main melody -- beats 3&4 of the 3rd bar). Is it written that way in your music, or was that a personal choice? Thanks! Sounds great.

  • Great sound on that c trumpet, pity about the organist was he transposing as well or did the organ have a few wrong notes built into it .

  • oooo is amazing,i learning to play the trompet in my little nation el salvador. very good

  • Whether or not you prepared this transposition or was reading the music, I don't care. You still played it very very well. Beautiful tone!

  • oh missunderstood a precious comment. I do see the music.

  • thanks for watching oilikepsi, but please don't make erroneous claims

  • I was also at that service and know damn well he prepared this piece...AND he requested to play this well before the service. I don't understand why he claims that it was "last minute" or "memorized" when both are untrue. Maybe too much pride?

  • I like how you said you were at the service...then you cuss... then you just hate.

this is why people hate fake christians. do something decent..

    nice transposing

  • @oilikepepsi What's so hard about memorizing it? I had to memorize all three movements for an audition once. After playing it a few thousand times, it's not exactly "impossible".

  • Memory? He prepared the piece on C-Trumpet and is clearly reading the music in front of him. If it were memorized... he wouldn't need the music. Why he chose to play it on C is beyond me. I attest though...always more fun transposing anything.

  • I think my jaw just fell on the floor... I play the trumpet. And some say that I play well... (I think their opinion is a little bias but w/e. ANYHOW the fact that u transposed all of that on the spot, plus not using the horn that u would have preferred... the least i can say is I'm impressed.

  • he is playing a C trumpet but the concerto was originally written for the Eb trumpet.

  • This is brilliant! You transposed the whole thing on the spot, and played it that perfectly? You're my hero dude.

  • NIGGA PLEAZ!!!!

  • i'm bout to slap dat D out yo mouf NUCKA!

  • Wow. Transposing by memory. That's amazing.

And even with the awkward intervals (seeing as its a C trumpet) he played it almost flawlessly...

  • Great tone! What c trumpet and mouthpiece do you use? I play on a c Bach Strad. and a 3c mouthpiece.

  • Dude...that was really well done!

  • You're too modest. I wouldn't expect anything less of a Juilliard grad...

    Great Job!

  • "All I had was my C trumpet. While it was a scary experience to play by memory and transposing, I have to admit, it sort-of worked on C trumpet better than I thought it would... besides the trills of course." What are you talking about? Great job! And, would I expect anything less from a Julliard trumpeter? Absolutely not! Nicely done!!!

  • what year are you at Julliard?

  • Awesome!!!!

  • nice transposing!

never heard an organ play with this song

  • even with all the problems you play very well.

    congratulations

  • wow we played together in staten island bands throughout our childhood...i remember you when you were in the 5th grade...always knew you would be amazing...anyway congrats on all your success..

-Catherine (won't post my last name but think along the lines of dated chris a. for a few years...)

  • the acoustics in churches kick ass

  • More power to you man

  • you fucking nailed it, buddy.

  • Good tonality indeed! Guess would be better if played by e flat horn.

  • Very good. Great tone and excellent playing. little fubbles on the 1 to 2,3 trills but who cares.... theyre hella hard and for what you had to do to play its understandable. 3:42... we all make mistakes. Still great performance though.

  • Even though last minute, such smooth tone and playing. :) Heavenly instrument...I love trumpet!

  • Great tone, good interpretation, and GREAT job transposing! But the one thing that got me is the trills (not the ones where you trill from 1 to 2-3 =)). Your 1 to open trills just felt stale to me. Other than that, fantastic performance, especially considering the circumstances!

  • Loosen up dude. You're good. Keep working on the technique and the Sergio stuff.

  • killer tone and well performed considering you were transposing!!! no real mistakes :)

  • u did fine(for a last minute request). shouldnt really worry about the trills :) your lower tones are amazing and your high notes are clean. What a talent.

  • Never heard Haydn on trumpet and organ, but I like it and I'm going to try it at my next church performance!

  • Well done, good tone

  • I played the Nerude on C once. Awkward thing to do. Very nicely done!

  • hey. amazing tone. im playing this peice and i have a problem with keeping the double tonguing smooth in the upper range of the peoce. got any tricks.

  • I used to play trombone which is a concert pitch instrument. From what I understand, if you were using a Bb trumpet, to get the music to sound in Eb, it would be written in F (a whole step above Eb). Very nice.

  • that was a trumpet on conert pitch, I can tell.

  • actually the most common trombone is a non-transposing Bb instrument... unless your playing in south america where C bones are standard...

  • Great job. The fingerings looked pretty awkward but you pulled it off nicely.

  • it is a yamaha xeno c tpt, but i would normally play this on a gold plated shilke Eb. thanks for your interest

  • You're very lucky to go to Juilliard. I'd love to enter and study viola, but I haven't got the money. :(

It cost $40k a year, correct?

  • What brandt of trumpet is that? you have a great tone on it

  • WOW!!! Playing by memory and transposing?! Amazing. 5 stars :D

  • LOL!! A last minute request, transposing to C trumpet on the spot, and you're worried about the trills?!?!? Great job!

I probably would have wussed out.

  • The Haydn. Last minute on a C trumpet...Outstanding.

  • I really love your tone
