This song is my dad to a T. He went looking to buy a truck and got pissed when he couldn't find a half ton with a manual transmission and crank down windows. And despite the fact that he has worked six days almost every week for the past fourty years he always has time for his wife, boys and grandkids. Great man.
This song is my grand daddy to a t. he's been gone 21 years and i remember him like i saw him yesterday. We are losing the true men that made this country what it is. we need more that dont think of themselves...ever
my sorry i can't type but I'll never forget about one time I got mad about my football team not winning my dad said nominder who wins are loses. I have to put on my work boots and go to work,on Monday. Thats is so True
every time i hear this song i cant help but cry it reminds me of my great uncle.I thank god everyday that my great uncle dave, who served in our nation's army during Vietnam, is still alive.I love you Uncle Dave and i cant wait to see you this summer
@romanlord2458 i have a great uncle like that to served in WW2 and this song describes him just right but he passed a summer ago at 95 workin all his life
My daddy never was the Cadillac kind, either. I left home right after high school and bought myself a new car.....and just as the song says.....daddy wouldn't ride in it.
My dad died in November also. I don't recall if it was a caddy that took him to the cemetery, but most likely it was.
Well explains my daddy & just my whole family I am a SHIRLEY & we are just simple men & women we know $ dont buy love & have been brought up that way & we aint no cadillac kind for sure
Just sitting here listening to these songs makes me miss my dad even more. He died in 2005 and it never gets easyer. He was a hard worker man and nothing matter more than us kids!
My Grandpa is in this video. He is one of the miners. If you stop the video at 3:05 you have the perfect shot of him. He has his jacket open and he is in a plaid shirt. I always thought it was cool that Danny Shirley wanted him in this video. I was in first grade.
I love how this bands, songs always seem to have a message behind them, it's not just a simple love song or something. Great band really do miss them.
My Granddaddy was a proud Kentucky coal miner and I remember my Daddy and Uncles laying him to rest in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery, April '88. His headstone read, "The Angels lifted a Simple Man's tired arms in work and now in rest."
I'm 34. My old man is 65. Still works every day, and has never owned a new vehicle in his whole 65 years, and never plans to! His take has always been, "If it gets me to work and home every day, that's all I need. Why do I need something new to do that?" Like I said, I'm 34, and I drive a 1993 GMC 1500 short bed 2WD with a 5 speed, and 239,000 miles on the odometer!! Could I buy a new one, probably........but it gets me to work and home everyday!
@Alleyoops1981 Ha... GM took $30 million as a loan which has been paid back including interest. On the other hand, the financial industry took a $700 billion bailout with no intention of paying it back. People are giving GM hell for a loan and the banks get a pass with tax money for who knows what reason. Blood would be running in the streets if Americans actually gave a damn anymore.
@ftheccjake Well you and I agree on everything but GM.I still prefer Ford, they didnt take any money at all. But everything you and i meet eye to eye on.
omg can somebody please tell me who sing this song im 24 but this song relates to me so well it keeps my heart singing this is real music . i heard this song first time today on the radio
I've seen a lot of Cadillacs, from the classics, to the new generation. I've known a few people that've owned Cadillacs, and I've driven one myself, and I do agree with what some people say about them. They're nice cars, but I can't afford one....yet! However, if I do get a Cadillac, I want one of the ones with the 300 horsepower engine, that way I can run circles around all the riceburners out there.
This song is great and reminds me of my dad and me cuz he hates cadillacs and fords and when he dies im going to play this and it brings me back to when i was a kid cuz we was poor and my dad told just what his dad told him it makes tears come to my eyes but it made who i am my dad did and just so you know my dad and me are firebird and trans am lovers
I always loved this song but had never seen the video. When those coal miners remove their helmets as the hearse drives by, it brings tears to my eyes.
reminds me of my grand father who taught me that learning to do something your self is the best thing in the world and new is not always better and the simpler your life is the better so you can enjoy life and thoes around you
Great song, great singer and great honky tonk song. Honky tonks are scarce now a days its where these kind of songs made me have a good time. A lot of cowboy hats on the dance floor and pretty women.

@tslayer87 u dont really need friends they usually end up screwing u over over money or them fucking sumone close to u, or something else, all u need is a good foundation for a man ,woman and child if its desired
@TonyCampbbell a nock off they think they can call country but if your a true contry fan youll agree the 80's and 90's was when the best country music was made they need to bring it back
@ford225 new country suck witha few gems mixed in the 2000,s the nineties kicked ass, the shit frm the 60,ss and 70, bored me to tears, 90,s country always
This is my favorite song about a father, although Reba MacEntire has a good one, too. I wasn't close to my father, but this song brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.
This song reminds me of my father who was a boiler maker and passed away in 2006. As they drove him away in that big caddilac with a tear in my eye I had to laugh. Cus daddy never was the caddilac kind.
I always planned to have "A simple man. Simply laid to rest" engraved on my own stone because of this song. Here's to the simple men and those of us out there that still understand what it means.
this song has very special meaning to me.........my father was a hard worker and passed away in November and he neveer was a cadillac man................great song Confrderate Railroad
My uncle had this song played at his funeral. I didn't understand why at first. But as i grew older i understood. He didn't need money to be happy. all he needed was the love of his family and some money to pay the bills. That's all he asked for. When we buried him. He " went out with a his boots on, and a grin on his face."
Well there is nothing wrong with a sober man in a cadillac, its better then a drunk driver in a ford pinto, I dont like the alcohol in this video, There is not anything wrong with being rich , Its Loveing money that makes it wrong, Better is a generaus rich man then a greedy poor one.....Free heart rich man is better then a greedy poor man...but who do you give to when your rich other rich people? how does a rich man know how to give to the poor? where does he learn this at?
AWESOME SONG ,THIS IS THE KINDA SONG THEY NEED TO BE PUTTING OUT ON "COUNTRY MUSIC RADIO" THIS IS REAL COUNTRY MUSIC ! THANKS DANNY SHIRLEY AND CONFEDERATE RAILROAD FOR YOUR AWESOME SONG!!!!
Amazing song about the past, many of us grew up with these qualities. It's a shame how young people today (ok, I'm 29) don't have these values anymore.
@sihschris Partner, I understand. I'm 18 and wish it was like it used to be. Coming from a farm in the south this was the only music we had to listen to and when I heard the other "music" people listened to, it really worried me about our upcoming generation. We've got people running around listening to songs about screwing everyone and shooting people... and that's ok? God bless what's left of America.
@acres90 My Grandfather passed away the same year. This song reminded me a lot about him he was real simple and didn't like to spend his money on materialistic things. Lets just say he never owned a Cadillac.
You know what guys, My dad passed away when i was in the 4th grade. that was back in 2004. I remember he loved this song.... and this band... he told me "love was one thing money couldn't buy" refering to my mom, who passed 13 months before he did. This song makes me cry so hard. I miss my father so much. I miss my mother too.
@CodytheMan08 Ain't that the truth, brother. The simple respect of the miners for one of their own despite the fact that they can't afford to take the day off. Life goes on, but they honor the fallen.
I come from a family of coal miners and every time I hear this song or see this video, I burst into tears. Very well written along with Danny Shirleys outstanding voice makes it a great song. I wish we could hear them more.
this type of country is true and pure. no one shows this kind of respect now a days. taking off your hat as a funeral party pass, right on! i love this period of country music!! country music speak the truth about life. i don't see how people say it's stupid.
my daddy passed away 3/11/11 and he used to listen to this song said it reminded him of his daddy who passed in 84...but now it reminds me of him...i love and miss you so much daddy!!
Dad I love you so much and it will be so hard with out you at least you don't have no more pain I love you beyond words you were the BEST 10/22/38 4/7/2011
they hit it right on the head my dad was my best friend i miss him so much but i know he wouldnt have wanted me 2 but music like this brings the tears rip dad 9 30 06
Hey does anyone know if that was Danny Shirley playing the part of the father in this video? The father looks a lot like Danny Shirley, just without the facial hair and longer hair lol.
@SaintlyTiger88 i cant remember if it was danny or not i remember that in the tv version it said who it was and it was a shirley just not sure if it was danny
Yeah this song make me cry because my Daddy pass way December 1 2009 he was a hard working man care about his family now im a father to 3 month son when i here this song of daddy im now because im father im going do same thing my daddy do when we growing up going for my son
hy man i agree that is a cool song like some say your gay some say your straight but this song is from birth all the way to the gates fill for you man ..................
i just lost my grandfather 1-19-11 and i have know of this song for years. i finally listened to it with a new outlook i would guess and this song was almost like a life story for my grandpap. i love him with all my heart and he never owned a cadillac and never would own one. i just hope on sat 1-21-11 he has a nice ride cause grandaddy never was the cadillac kind
This is an awesome song i really love it i cant stop listenin to it. Reminds me of my granddad and my dad too. We really need to learn how to love like that again and maybe things wont be so bad for us!!
My dad grew up pickin cvotton and sharecroppin. When he got his first caddy I was just learning todrive! I never forget him tossing me the keys and sayin...here girl, if you can drive this , you can drive anything! I was scared to death but he was right....now I can drive anything! Thanks Dad! I love you!

this type of country is true and pure. no one shows this kind of respect now a days. taking off your hat as a funeral party pass, right on! i love this period of country music!! country music speak the truth about life. i don't see how people say it's stupid.

Hey does anyone know if that was Danny Shirley playing the part of the father in this video? The father looks a lot like Danny Shirley, just without the facial hair and longer hair lol.
