how hard was it to install this? my dad has a 73 g20 that originally came with a 400 but he replaced it with a 350, he had to cut the grill out to get the new motor in, is that what you had to do also? i love the van its bad ass
@AdamW582 Very well, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. The shifter isn't as far back as you would think, and it's nothing a custom shifter can't take care of. It was harder making the hydraulic clutch setup work.
Very impressive! Do you have lockers or are the diffs open? I would have chosen a longer wheelbase van to be able to drop in a gear splitter but otherwise, you chose the perfect combo as far as engines/transmissions are concerned.
@AlabamaCrackerHonkey Rear locker, open front. Don't know why you would need a gear splitter with a cummins though, unless you rock crawl? but then the longer wheel base would cripple more than the gear splitter would help, so I guess I'm confused. I don't rock crawl, it's not a very good vehicle for that.
@briansmobile1 My wife keeps bugging me to contour the rear a little too, I thought it looked ok being straight, but she usually gets what she wants, I'll put it on my list.
@therealpope79 I'm in Spokane. The van is tore apart again, it's getting a nv4500/np241 w/ s.y.e. The intermediate shaft was making a bothersome noise at low speed cruise that I couldn't remedy. I tow all over the place and I don't want to have to worry about the little intermediate shaft flying apart. Plus it makes my rear driveline 10" longer and decreases the angle on the CV.
@gb66gb Small world. I was born in Spokane, raised in Moses Lake. Most of my family lives in Spokane. The new shaft had outta help out quit a bit. Aside from their little quirks the NV4500s are a great trans! Nice build once again!
Stock conversion chassis. Flipped rear, ford high boy front, custom x member for the motor, but still the stock van "frame" (they are actually unibody)
@CumminsISB24V Stock conversion chassis. Flipped rear, ford high boy front, custom x member for the motor, but still the stock van "frame" (they are actually unibody)
Actually unibody with rails welded as reinforcements, just like the vw bus or the dodge van -which by the way, all his lifespan was unibody. That set up lasted until 1996, when the Chevy Express Van featured truly body on frame construction.
Lol, half the moter is sitting inside the cab! Pretty damn awsome setup though dude. I'm jealous. I'll bet it get's loud in there haha.

@thedamnredneck It wasn't easy. You don't take the engine out the front, you take it out the bottom.

There are three things cool about this, 1)it's a VAN 2) it's a 4x4 VAN and 3)it's a 4x4 VAN with a CUMMINS!
