Man what a kick ass funk band! Get Off was their big hit back in 1978, reaching no.9 on Billboard Pop Chart. This song made it to no.19. Either way that lead singer was a hot number!!!!
I always considered this song was sort of the red-headed stepchild compared to the force of nature that was "Get Off". In truth, this is a solid song that can be covered in many different genres. I kind of wish that Ish sang the bridge too instead of just the girls-they sort of overwhelm the tune.
Well, I wouldn't carry Prince's jockstrap anyway. And I agree with you. He is more talented. In any event, I've written way more than two hits. Just with other groups. I DO think that Price saw us on Midnight Special where I have my little yellow shorts on and then copied me by wearing his underwear on the cover of his first album which came out about a year after this song came out. So somehow, the whole "Jockstrap" thing is somewhat connected. Peace.
I was impressed to find that you played with ABBA on the VOULEZ-VOUZ album. That album, Xanadu and Led Zepplin's IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR made it a lot easier for me to be stationed at Lakenheath Air Force base far away from my family in California. They reminded me that great music was everywhere.
P.S. There is room for all great artists. I try to shy away from comparisons and respect you for suffering all (or some) of our comments. Take care.
@ishledesmay actually I think that was his second album. If I WAS ranking your hits I would rank Get Off 3, Hot Number 2 and Party Boys 1...a very under rated song but I STILL dig it!!
They sound nothing like Prince. It's ridiculous to assume that Prince "took their style". They are two hit wonders and in terms of talent they can't carry Prince's jock strap. They are good but lets not get carried away.
Agreed, one could easily imagine Prince doing a similar version of this song (w/ drum machine for his signature purple rock), but he also took equal size bites o' so many other pop-funk bands (i.e. The OHIO Players).
Thanks for posting this video. Our band used to play this back in the day. I had never seen the group except on the album cover. This is my FIRST time seeing this video.
Ahhhh, the talk box. Those were the days. We used it to play this song and Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like I Do". :o)
They were for real and they were fun! I was senior in high school and had 2 albums. Check out "Get off". I saw Foxy , Sis Sledge, and the Jacksons at a show in Ft Worth 1979. It was cool... brings back memories
I remember seeing this on TV when I was in high school. Disco was okay and anyone who tells you they didn't enjoy going to a disco for fun was lying. These guys were okay, but they weren't no Cheap Trick either.
I just bought this old favorite of mine for my iPhone. Those two female "backup" singers stole the show. Those goofy guitar players need to get to the background. I should have realized that is why Foxy never lasted. They never gave front row credit to the real voices to the success of their band. Great music, bad band management. Must have been an ethnic thing.
they one of those KC from KC and the Sunshine band groups. I believe, so blame him. I liked them but they presented themselves as a rock band with the guitars and drummer. They should of gotten rid of the guitars and just sang.
This was & this is guilty plesure and I have on my laptop, desktop computers. I have play this atleast once a day on my ipod when I skateboard around the streets of NYC. Thank yo very much for this.
Golly, I still have my vinyl 12" single of the LONG version of this song, brings back such good times! thanks for posting this, I remember watching this clip on Merv Griffin when it first broadcast!
Hey!! These are my good friends Ish (vocals & guitar) and Joe Galdo (now with Island Records on South Beach)These guys are sweethearts and great to hang out with, peace & love in South Beach!!
Hey!!, these are my buddies from Miami,Ish on vocals & guitar(he has short hair now) and Joe Galdo( now working for Island Records at South Beach Studios) on Drums, great guys, always had a good time with Ish on South Beach!
omg I always thought they were ALL somewhat black LOL. TOTALLY shocked here. Anyways, song seriously rocks! What a hot jam. Ahead of its time for sure. Such a great sound and cant believe this was once mainstream in the US lol. So sad how sh*tty music has become :(...
According to Wikipedia, they're listed as a "Latin dance/disco band." So technically they ARE "somewhat black." But not as black as I thought they were when I was a kid in the 70s, that's for sure... :)

Prince's first album wasn't until 1977/1978. Foxy put out their 1st on 1976. They were doing local scenes in Miami before that. So Foxy was first.
