  • Thanks for producing this -- fascinating video. I'd like to share this with some of my colleagues, both in and outside of Sudan, who are deaf. Any way to have subtitles in Arabic/English?

  • So this mean you would have to learn a different sign language depending on where you are? A friend of mine was wondering about this and I theorised that it Sudan had isolated sign languages that depended on the region or state you are in.

  • WOW! 150 different dialects of sign language in three Sudanese states?!??!!?!?

  • This is great that you are working together with the Deaf Associations and that this is what they are asking for and doing themselves. I'm wondering if any deaf women are involved in this project? How can you get them involved?

  • @pafmartwo Thank you for your interest and excellent comment.

Indeed, deaf women were and are involved in this project. The Sudanese National Union of the Deaf (SNUD) has a Women’s Department and the two women we met, while making the film, were open and outspoken. Based on their accounts, women participated in the consultation process and the production of the manual.
