If the problem is that the story of the truth about who we are is false, then the solution to the problem of the falsity of the truth is to find the falsity of the falsity since it is impossible to find the truth of the truth as any representation of the truth is a falsity.
@zthetha That's perfectly opposed to John's message, which is not to seek out any representation of the truth, but the source of truth itself. Seeking truth by hunting down "the falsity of the falsity" is like trying to find light in a dark cave by looking for the darkness of the dark.
Ramana Maharshi speaks of the mind returning to its source, namely, the self. There, the activity of the mind, which is thought, ceases, and the self shines. The method Ramana Maharshi keeps pointing to is self-enquiry, in the form of the question "who am I", which in effect stops the thought process. This much I have understood from reading the sayings of the Maharshi. Om Shanti.
What annoys me about John Sherman is that he is always burning spiritual straw men - Setting up imaginary claims branding them spiritual, or Buddhist or Advaitist then then pissing on them with a self righteous superior insight. For instance he sais. The idea of grabbing ego by the throat is a sin, is heracy to Advaitist or Buddhist or advanced spiritual teachings etc. this is total rubbish.
John simply points to being present or in his words "existence". The mind is in the past or future which is an illusion, and it keeps you from being present. "Look at you". That brings presence and stops the mind.
"I am" the first person singular "to be"
"To be or not to be..... that is the question" as per Shakespere.
Yes, what if that's true? Does it matter? What he's talking about is something you can simply check for yourself. You can just try it and see if it's true that if you keep looking at yourself, you will eventually be satisfied. So don't give him any money and find out if what he's saying is true. Quite simple really. I never paid him a single penny, but he's changed my life. Still, don't take my word for it either. The only safe thing to do is to check it out for yourself.
You could not be more correct. People who share absolute truth and love change the lives of everyone around them. John had a hell of a life to get where he is, and I'm thankful that at 26 years old I've found inner peace and true fundamental understanding of what really matters. The most important things in life cannot be counted or purchased. Einstein says, all that can be counted does not count, we cannot count that which counts, (Not word for word but mostly)
your missing something here. yes we are not our stories if we are cowards afraid to signify this outpost of awareness called "i". the intent of your guru was to enlighten you to your own insignificance made significant by you, the "i" because the "i's" are puzzel pieces of creation and do have color significant to creation. discounting the i in itself is another dualistic manifestation of the i and so no more or less closer to enlightenment and not resembling something like humility or wisdom.
there is this view. but there are other spiritual teachers who think to work on yourself is a holy thing, work on becoming less nuerotic, work on improving self esteem etc. I am not sure how to mix these 2 views together!
They seem to be kind of opposite.
i.e. totally not worry about your "story" leave it as it is. Or work to improve it, psychotherapy, etc. Should we not work to improve out neurosis then?
If you are working on the symptoms then you are not addressing cause. So changing neuroses, personality defects, etc are symptoms. It would be like going up to a screen in a movie theater and trying to make changes in the movie there instead of going to the projection room to make the correction. When you go to the the experience of BEING then the entire story becomes irrelevant and nothing needs fixing.
hey, does enlightenment really exist, like that which is claimed by the Buddha? Does Jonhn Sherman's self-inquiry lead to awakening. I think that besides his awakening, one canm also work on physical stuff like dancing, making money, and developing healing powers more easily.
We can only work on it by not working so hard to try and fix it. Just understand things will always happen, and let go. If you have truth and love and share that, then your brain won't fight itself from what we've been told to do, and understand that all we can do and really care about is love one another and uphold truth. Nothing else matters, if we all loved each other, and never lied or stole from others (stealing is a from of deceit; lie) then there would not be one problem in the world.
This has got to be the most hopeless, go nowhere philosophy of nothing that i have ever heard. What a waste of time. Completely self-focused, self-absorbed and selfish. Wake up... Truth is HARD
When Ramana walked around the holy hill Arunachala He often did not even look at the things around Him, the beautiful trees, birds, etc. What is it like to see the beauty Inside and that be enough?
The holy hill Arunachala, the beautiful trees, the birds, etc, all appeared and disappeared within him as they do within you. Merely lose the conviction that you are this life alone, replace it with nothing, and all will be clear.
Only try with your whole heart to see what you are, and all belief about what you are will be finished.
I read the video discription and already knew that this was going to be in agreeance with M Y views, how presumptuous of me? We'll See. I'll continue writing this comment and see how veracious my... urrr expectations turn out to br.
Thank you so much John, me, or little me, whas looking, trying, believing, faling, trying again, reading, hoping, crying, laughing, bleeding, looking etc etc etc but its so simple, i am always here, i am it! never lost, always present
Thank you so much John for sharing your experience! I have read, read and re-read Ramana, Papaji, Gangaji and have wrestled for truth for many years now. Your transmission of your experience are helping me see. Very clear and I love your website. No trace of commercialism, desperation for money. I hope that all those who realize the benefit you bring will act on their inner prompting to share their money (life energy) with you in exchange for your offering.
All of these videoclips with John Sherman are -- just -- IT! Goes straight to the IT, so obvious and true and simple. Tears flowing. Thanks from the deepest of my heart.
I am not sure who is the author of my story--but I have narrowed it down to either a noisy and furious idiot, or (more likely) a typewriting monkey with a real talent for black comedy.
I´d like to THANK YOU so much John - I watched an heard everything I can get from you - and I can only say : noone makes it that clear and that "simple"... - you always come back to hit the point- I take "the medicine" over and over again - ...and - it work´s - it is mysterious - can´t explain how and what it is, but - something happens - in a way I never felt before... - it´s just like magic...! - It feels so real... - Yeah - THAT´s IT !
When Pilot asked Jesus, "what is truth" Jesus remained silent and did not reply.
