@johnjablonsky I don't hate god - I can't hate what isn't there. What I dislike is having religion forced on me, especially by the State. I have not only read John, I studied it for two years. There's not a shred of evidence for "repent or go to hell", so I don't have to make that choice. Ancient texts by primitive Middle Eastern tribesmen don't count as evidence - they're just words, and words alone prove nothing.
I understand that many atheist want to be accepted in society without been forced by other peoples believes. but how about religious people that have to see horrible degrading unethical, moral less programs or music on tv or shirts about the devil. or lesbians kissing on t.v. we all are been forced believes that we don't agree with and I understand but, the way many atheist come across as arrogant and disrespectful people (except for you :)) and for that reason alone things will not change.
We ALL have to put up with things which offend us - in a free society, we cannot have the right not to be offended, because that inhibits others' freedom of speech, which is far more important. But we don't except *governments* to be advertising lesbianism or devil-worship on our money! And if you don't like what's on TV, switch channels or switch off! It's easy. Nobody forces you to watch anything.
I wonder how many atheists you've met, and how many you've met without knowing it (most don't go around announcing their atheism). There are arrogant and disrespectful ones, just as there are arrogant and disrespectful believers, but the overwhelming majority of atheists are decent, respectful, law-abiding people. And they don't demand atheist dollar bills or atheist pledges & prayers in school!
I've met a few atheist that are very pleasant some of them are my friends. I find other atheist offensive when they use the crucifix in disrespectful ways or say awful things just to prove their point and I see lots of stuff like that. those people make the rest of you look bad. just like people that believe in god make the rest of us look bad also.
I find the crucifix offensive however it is used. Why anybody would want to proudly display an image of a man being tortured to death, in order to worship the father who let the torture happen, is totally baffling. But, like I said, I do not have the right to not be offended, so Christians are free to display their little torture scene if they wish.
this is my point! weather you find it disrespectful or a man been torture you have to respect that! your sarcasm proves my point how atheist are always unhappy about everything!
and want to be accepted in society when you don't have respect for other religions. the crucifix is a symbol of how much bullshit we have to deal with. but some people are so close minded that they can't understand anything without sarcasm
Respect torture?? How sick is that? Should I respect genocide and racism too?? You cannot tell anyone what they have to respect - that is an attempt at thought-control, the tactic of fascists and tyrants. I am a free man, and I will respect what I choose to respect. I totally respect everyone's right to believe what they wish, but I absolutely do not respect many of those beliefs themselves. I respect people automatically, but ideas only if they can show merit.
Many religious people, including leaders, show total disrespect to the non-religious, so they can't complain if we respond in kind. The video was light-hearted, but not sarcastic. It's point was deadly serious - governments should not be pushing religions at people. In the USA, it is unconstitutional for governments to do so. Lack of humour, lack of the ability to laugh at oneself, is not healthy, but I find it all to often amongst some religious people.
bottom line of all this bullshit is that you are not happy with your self and you don't believe in god so you have to make little hypocrite to prove your point let me put it to you like this you close minded soul less freak! if you want people to respect atheist you have to learn how to respect peoples ideas and beliefs simple.
I am as happy with myself as can be expected, and much happier with myself than many believers I know. Would you respect a belief that the Earth is flat? Or that Asians/Africans/Europeans (take your pick) are sub-human? I doubt it - beliefs have to *earn* respect on their merits. You are trying to claim special privileged exemption from that requirement for religion, and it ain't going to happen.
Where's the contradiction? I respect your right to believe any vile nonsense you wish, but I don't have to like or respect the nonsense itself, any more than I have to respect racism, fascism, sexism etc.
But you are forced to carry and spend money with "In God we Trust" on if you live in the USA, whereas you're not forced to watch any particular TV show. I find the idea of the Abrahamic god not only ludicrous, but also immoral. Labelling people as sinners, condemning them to eternal punishment, saving them only if they believe what they're told is morally repugnant! How would you feel if the only money you could spend bore the words "We all love lesbian orgies"?
is funny how some people have sarcasm when it comes to the word god, or some are even hateful, even if people don't believe in god well good for you! but let others be happy with what they believe in.
People are free to be happy with whatever they want to believe, whether it's real or delusional. The problem arises when they try to foist that belief onto other people, through the state, the law, the schools, and even our money.
sure that makes sense. but if we take the word god out of the schools, law, or money then you are foist the belief that god doesn't exist into people that do. isn't that an oxymoron? isn't that same thing? shouldn't we try to abolish anything that is bad in this world like violence, poverty, racism, e,t,c instead of trying to abolish all that gives people hope and peace? god or religion doesn't make war, stupid people do.
Silence on the subject is not foisting anything on people. Nobody is advocating that dollar bills should say "In the absence of God we Trust". A dollar is a means of exchange, a school is for teaching hard evidence and proven methodologies, a government is for defending the nation and ensuring the physical welfare of its people. None of these things should be either for or against theism. They should be neutral or silent on the subject.
Yes, we should be trying to eliminate violence, poverty, racism etc, rather than wasting time on unprovable myths. God or religion doesn't make war, but the ideas of god and religion do motivate people to make war, and are used to justify acts which would be almost impossible to justify otherwise (e.g. the Crusades; 9/11).
I should add that non-religious ideologies are almost as bad, but in all cases I can think of (e.g. Communism) they were imposed on peoples made ready to accept absolutist ideology by their religious upbringing. But I've yet to hear of a liberal secular humanist genocide!
stupid people make wars and kill people. good people don't do things like that, people use religion as a tool for bad things. just like lawyers use the law on their favor when it was meant for something good. or politicians, or imperialists.
Yes indeed, but religion gives stupid people the excuse they need! When one is brought up to believe that faith has to be respected, even though there is no evidence to support it & no way of proving one faith to be true and another false, then the person who says "God is on my side" gets attention and some respect and support, instead of being summarily rejected as a nutcase. But this is a separate argument from whether governments should be promoting partucular faiths.
Thank you Galactic for showing me this. I can not believe the hypocrisy of the British Empire. How in one side it is the face of Church of England's equivalent of the pope and on the other a man who was renowned for theory on evolution.
To be fair, the Queen is not the CofE's equivalent of the Pope. She is merely the nominal temporal governor of the church - not ordained, not a definer of doctrine, and certainly not claiming the ability to speak infallibly. And the CofE has no problem with evolution. Nevertheless, the removal of the monarch's religious role is long overdue.
PS - The British Empire doesn't exist anymore either ;-)
I envy the UK in many things, Darwin on the cash especially.
You know, the US DOES actually have several non-theists on our money. Many of our most revered founders were non theists, but most Americans vehemently deny that; and there is a ridiculous campaign of lies to revise history in this respect.
No American would dare suggest removing Jefferson or Franklin from our money, so instead they portray these men as Christians. Damned lies.
Unfortunately, Darwin won't last forever. Our banknotes get re-designed every so often. A new £20 note was introduced this year, which probably means that a new £10 note will follow in a year or two, with a new face.
The nonsense about Christian founding fathers is absurd : poor old Jefferson must be spinning in his grave.
I've recently taken to doing the same thing with American money, nice vid
It's legal because it's not done with intent to make the bill unusable.

Why do you hate God. If I were you, I would read the Gospel of John. The choose is yours, you can repent or die and go to hell. You choose.

The greatest thing about god is that he almost certainly doesn't exist. That's his only saving grace.

if that's your opinion that's fine. in my opinion god exists!

Indeed I was slightly exaggerating the queens position in the Church of England.
Explain Church of England's stance on Evolution? I am interested, perhaps you could do a vid on it.
