Yes this is the correct way as per Imam Abu Hanifa the prayer of Witr , but it contradicts with the prayer of Our Prophet Muhammad saws. People who fear Allah swt should decide whether to follow Imam Abu hanifa or Prophet saws through the teaching came from Bukhari , Muslim and other authentic hadiths. The problem that it is always repetitive, over and over again it becomes mechanical, automatic,.How many times have you prayed the same verse and letter over and over. then it is without sincerity. Such prayers and worships are valueless because that person's heart is not freely given. don't you think that God is tired of hearing same and same prayers, those prayers are not spontaneous.

@usmanym ... You are misguided. Imam Abu Hanifa (Rad) did not make this up on his own. Imam Abu Hanifa (Rad) is an EXTREMELY learned scholar and met many Sahabas. The Hanifa way of doing WITR is NOT the way of Imam Abu Hanifa, it is the way of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW/Peace be upon him) as Imam Abu Hanifa (Rad) learned it. Imam Abu Hanifa (Rad) is a better man than you and me & is more knowledgeable than us.

Guys This is how people pray Witr in Afghanistan and Pakistan, this is the hanafi way of praying witr. My parents pray witr like this, but in mosque I learned that you CAN pray 2 rakah then sit for attahiatulilahi wasalawata wa taybatu then get up and pray last rakah, and you CAN ALSO pray 2 raka then pray 1 raka solo. Please forgive me if Iam wrong but I was confused aswell at begining, because I come from afghanistan wherein they do alot of things differently, hanafi way. Salamaykum

@electricfire7 Please speak to a scholor who will guide you and teach you the hadith of prophet muhammed (saw). witr means odd 1,3,5,etc. and it can not be the same as maghrib. dua qoonut alone doesnt make it different from maghrib. remember in mecca and madina you dont sit on the 2nd rakkah. and if you visit the holy citys during ramadan you have to pray this way.. where else would the sunnah prayer be prayed better if not at his own mosque in medina?

@slimwasim I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure nobody recites qunoot during maghrib prayer, so there's the difference between maghrib and witr. This is how you pray according to the Hanafi madhab, which is according to the sunnah. The 3 other ways to pray witr by the 3 other madhabs is valid as well. The 4 madhabs has been established as perfectly permissible for over 1000 years now, so why even argue. May Allah guide us all and let us not dispute over minute differences.

It was proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not pray Witr with three rak’ahs like Maghrib.” Narrated by al-Haakim, 1/403; al-Bayhaqi, 3/31; al-Daaraqutni, p. 172. Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Baari (4/301): Its isnaad fulfils the conditions of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhaari and Muslim).
