i REALLY thought Alicia Keys was playing the piano on her song untill i heard this song. it makes me wonder about her piano skills because most of the songs she has recorded playing the piano are "sampled" sounds.
@tislamic7 She could play this song on the piano, but you have to understand that "You Don't Know My Name" was made by Kanye West too, and you know what he was famous for back then.
@tislamic7 No, Alicia didn't compose "You Don't Know My Name", however, she composes a lot of her other songs though.. she's really good at playing piano too. I went to one of her concerts back in 2004 and damn! She did a killer piano freestyle. I heard somewhere that she is a classically-trained pianist.
@tislamic7 she records and does most of her songs. the only reason that song was sampled is because she was working with kanye and kanye samples so many things to make people realize the music that he admires. thats why people come to the songs that he samples and find out much more about classical music like this. you guys should be proud honestly. he is shinin a light onto all of you who werent born in the 70's
what makes you a genius for sampling obscure music? i though people like Madlib, MF Doom, and JayDee(or J Dilla) have been doing that shit longer then Kanye, and other people have been doing it longer then them
Plus you listen to 2 seconds of another track & know it can make a whole song... sometimes you gotta know when to mess with the sample or just leave it the hell alone... It's just having an ear for the music from listening for so long
@retardedcore It really depends how you flip it, some people "sample" by just looping certain parts of the original. Others will sometimes distort the beat or chop it up until it sounds very different from the original (See Kingdom Come by Jay-Z which samples Superfreak by Rick James)
Well sampling can be a negative for taking someone's rythym, but people are devoted enough to including there song in the first place so they wont live in a record but in its influence which it passes me.
but i think thats an excellent way to find amazing old music.
ive found so many great songs just from wanting to find the sampled song used.
like producers such as J dilla, 9th wonder, MF doom, the likes of them, i have found such jems.
i myself make beats and the majority[bout 98%] is all beats sampling old soul, funk, pschyadelic music. and its amazing one can do with one track and TOTALLY transform it.
The song tells as much a story as the picture does, the hairs on the back of my neck nearly stood on end the first time I heard this rhapsody of melodic rifts and heavenly piano playing. Its as good as indulging in a rich chocolate bar...
This is REAL music, right here...i realized LOTS of artist sample from originals, but it still takes skill to pick up on a certain of a song and then loop it and it becomes a track (if that's how it's done.) Another ex. Jay-z's "girls, girls, girls" sampled Tom Brock "There's Nothing in this World That Can Stop"...
There is nothing wrong with hearing a great song, and reintroducing it to another generation/genre of music. Its called Recycling... R We recycling something cuz you just like it so you say it just like it?
It's really annoying to hear a song I love and to read people talking about some egocentric dick. I find it sad that people can't find a good tune by themselves, it's only when it's sampled by someone and made into some chart-topping bullshit.
Ahh, I have to interject here. That sample happened to be used for a wonderful musician and entertainer (Alicia Keys), and although the past musical wonders were wonderful, I think the new aspiring artists deserve credit where it's due as well.
listen to approx. 1:46 onwards...the fast descending chromatic keys are basically played throughout the backing of "you don't know my name" but in a different key.
@spunkyspam Good observation because the key on this track stays the SAME!!!! On Alicia's it changes 3 times in pattern and key. Listen on Alicia's version at 2:42.
I said the same thing. U don't get the same creativity on album covers nowadays. Like old Earth wind and fire covers Maze featuring frankie beverly covers was the shit too.
i love this song. it is so beautiful and is so full of love!
